    The AUS NB1 Quartermaster Cab Chassis (base trim) Petrol has a kerb weight of 2,446kg & the Diesel has a kerb weight of 2,527kg both including 90% fuel tank full & all other fluids at the correct level.
    The total gross weight of both versions is 3,550kg
    Higher trim levels do have a higher kerb weight. E.g. Trialmaster with dual battery, tow pack, additional wiring, RAI, KO2 tyres, diff locks, smooth pack, all adds approx. 100kg.
    So with load capacity is 1,104 kg & 1,023 kg respectively with 81 litres of fuel. Most manufacturers either don't include the fuel or don't state if it does or not when they quote a kerb weight.
    So if you add a Norweld canopy & tray at 289 kg and the extras for Trialmaster spec at 100 kg that still leaves 700 kg & 625 kg respectively. Logic says you would add an extended fuel tank at the same time.

      Right hand drive cost?

    • @wayne5741
      @wayne5741 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      The Aussie RAM website lists the 1500 between $115-175k drive-away (that's US$75-115k). (other people have commented here that the $230 quoted in the video is probably for the 2500) A lot of the price would be due to the fact RAM doesn't do right hand drive, and so it's not an official import by RAM. They are imported and converted locally to RHD by Ateco Group, or the Australian Tractor and Engineering Company. Australia has an official tariff of 5% on vehicles, but because most cars come from countries that we have free trade agreements with, we practically don't have tariffs. We do have a 33% luxury car tax that kicks in above US$53k (that was invented to protect our own car assembly industry which is now dead & gone, but the taxes are not). There's exemptions on the lux tax for "Commercial vehicles designed to carry goods rather than passengers, which can spare some high end trucks. The exemption is based on the vehicle's payload over the passenger carrying capacity." (That's from the Tax office website. They also have an example that highlights we have a ridiculously low 68kg per seat design rule ~150Lbs~. Many Aussies are obese and even if you're not you'd have to be tiny & skinny to weigh 68kg or less). Then there's 10% sales tax, locally known as GST. Unlike the USA, it's raised at a federal level, so it's the same across the country. Then we have stamp duty at state level (in my state it'd be 6.5% on all these vehicles), and last but not least we have annual registration fees (in my state that also includes compulsory 3rd party insurance), often based on vehicle weight so all these vehicles would be about US$1,000. And for good measure there's also sales tax on the luxury tax, on the stamp duty and on the registration. Just so the governments get their share of your vehicle. So that's your drive away price of $115-175k.

      I wouldn't even consider a Ford Ranger again. Many Mine sites in Australia initially switched from the Toyota Hilux to the Ford Ranger, but after just a year, most reverted back to the Hilux because the Rangers simply couldn't handle the demands of everyday work and we’re experiencing more wear and tear issues.
      Last year, our company purchased six brand-new Ford Rangers. We're now down to just three. Two of the vehicles suddenly stopped functioning entirely and were sent back to the dealership, where no one has been able to diagnose the issue. It's been seven months, and at this point, we doubt we'll ever see them back in operation.
      And they are talking about going back to toyota Hilux also, as all our work is Mine site work in the Pilbara.

    I have had one moment where my trailer was behaving a bit sketchy, but that was on account myself doing a bad job at loading it, and the weight was way too far back, but there were three 750kg prefab concrete slabs on my trailer so I couldnt just move them forward a few centimeters.

Same 8 spd zf transmission as the ineos. Centre and rear diff lock. Can convert to 18inch wheels if desired. And it's really not that difficult to read the user manual on the 4x4 system. I challenge anyone to test drive one when shopping for a vehicle.

      @user-pp6kw6yl6z 18" runs are too large for off road work.
      Plus, the topic of the video lists the 6 most desirable off-roaders. The new Defender is not in that league.
      As someone who's owned something from the green oval for over 25 years, there's nothing in their catalogue that does it for me anymore.

    • @user-pp6kw6yl6z
      @user-pp6kw6yl6z 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @k2svpete cheers for the reply. I've also got a gu patrol with 16" wheels and get the wheel size concerns but i really believe only during the hardest offroading does wheel size ever really come in to play. I'm not a fantasizer about what sort of offroading I do in my vehicles and personally believe that 18's would be perfectly fine for most people. 20's not so much off road which is probably the only issue I have with land rovers defender specification.
      And agree maybe the defender isn't in the top 6 desirable vehicles but that doesn't deter me at all. I'm not a Toyota fanboi and look past resale value as a primary motivator much to my financial detriment. I do accept though that 70 series cruisers and the grenadier are really a different class of vehicle and no doubt more durable in extreme conditions. I spent far too much time driving on the road though to have a vehicle so compromised for on road driving.

    • @k2svpete

      @user-pp6kw6yl6z that's why I have enjoyed my early discoveries. I think LR got the formula right there with the combination of comfort and capability.
      18s may be alright in a LT construction on a decent gravel road but I'd not trust them past that. You just don't have the sidewall height if you're running less than 35s.

      @user-pp6kw6yl6z 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    If we are only putting these 6 on the table for my own choices, then I would only pick two. The two I would choose is the Y63 Patrol and the Grenadier. Why those two? Well let's start with the Patrol. Here in the states we do not call it a Patrol, but instead the Armada. I can tell you that it is a straight out Luxury Vehicle that can haul a family around town and on long trips as needed. Also here in the States(who knows about Down Under) it is being equipped with the VR Series Engine which was introduced in the Nissan GTR. It is a powerhouse with great reliability based off the VQ Series Engine. Of course you still need to do the maintenance or it will fail(and that applies to any vehicle you have). That said I would not bother taking it OffRoad. It tells me that it doesn't belong there.
    As for the Ineos Grenadier, I would have fun with that as a Tourer. I'm pretty sure anyone here would enjoy that simply for the classic look and the way it was designed. The review you have given so far makes that pretty cool to understand, but I'm not going out and buying one as I do enjoy my 2012 D40 Frontier.
    Why not a Ram? Because I have seen how much they are truly not worth. They are absolute garbage.
    Why not a Toyota? I have way too many reasons here, but let's just go off of the good old Toyota Tax!! Way too many individuals think I should over pay for something that does not get that great of fuel range(at least in the states) and definitely doesn't have the power. Also let's face it...... You pay how much for a 70 Series and get how much? I can't justify the price. It just doesn't make sense.

Why the hell would anyone want to spend so much on a Ram with such a low Payload, GVM & Towing capacity? I honestly thought they would be 4000kg towing at least. From experience, using a manufacturer's kerb weight is fraught with risk. Toyota is known for publishing tare weight much less than actual, which leaves the difference to GVM stupidly small. Similarly a manufacturer's fuel consumption can be way off the mark in practical use, and even more so when a vehicle is modified and roof-top equipment added. Aerodynamic drag is dependent on both shape and cross-section, so a small increase in cross-section on a much larger vehicle won't affect its drag/fuel consumption as much as a large increase in cross-section on a smaller vehicle. For the life of me, I can't understand why the OEMs don't offer factory GVM upgrades.

Also a GVM upgrade, if car is then loaded to that GVM, cuts down your tow weight unless you get a GCM upgrade which is very difficult post rego. Two big factors in a tow vehicle you "forgot" to mention.
