Some time ago I had this giant unrequited crush on a girl, and she left overseas for student exchange... while there she went through a rough patch on her life, one day she wrote me a mesaage, and from there we grew close, we sent letters to each other, videochat and stuff, she was always telling me "I wish you were here"... when she came back, I went to pick her up at the airport, no one else came... it was just us, at 6:00 AM in Mexico city airport, our eyes met past security, and we embraced in the baggage claim. Just out of this beautiful song... it's just one of my happiest memories, that moment, finally seeing her and feeling her embrace... :/ things didn't work out, and everything still hurts, but... that's life for you. ;)
I found this song too late to dedicate it to her, but it brings everything back to my memory, that was how I felt at the time... I'm sorry for ranting here, I just wanted to let it all out.

Beautiful....ahhh
"You said the cherry blossoms were blooming and that I was on your mind"
I read somewhere that telling someone that something reminded you of them is a way of saying 'I love you', and nothing's made that ring more true than that line, because despite the beauty of the scenery, she still thought of him
Such a simple line, yet so powerful
I grew up in a very abusive household when I was a little girl and my mom would let me listen to these songs to soothe me whenever I was having a hard time because of my dad and it still helps me to this day. I had no idea that dcfc was still making music and I'm so happy I found this channel
I hope you're doing better now

Im sorry you went through it but Im glad you had music to help you through it. Death Cab had been there through extremely pivotal parts of my life as well.
I have met the love of my life in the states last year, during my 3 month internship. We've been apart for almost a year now, but in the meantime he has proposed to me. This song perfectly describes our relationship and it perfectly describes how hard it can be for a couple to be so far away from each other.
He has sent me this song today on Skype, and he has also said how he wants us to dance to this song on the day of our wedding. I've been listening to this song for a while now and I just can't stop crying. This song is so beautiful and so inspiring, and I can't wait to dance to it as a future Mrs.!!
The world needs more music like this! Artists who sing from their hearts and souls, and who make other people cry and feel perfectly content or whatever feeling a person might feel during the song. This is a music, not just for your ears, but for your heart as well.
Jana Now don't make me cry T___T That's so sweet.
Transaltanticism play it

Right when I thought this album couldn't get more sad
I LOVE IT
It’s just perfect. Difficult to think of a more perfectly crafted love song. It’s very beautiful and packs a powerful emotional punch.
This is definitely one of my favorite songs by Death Cab for Cutie! In fact, this is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful songs and music videos, I've ever heard or seen! I love the lyrics, too! I love it all!
Someone's gotta be the lighthouse, and that someone's gotta be me.
Wow.
+Tomer Sinai Yeah that can hit home for some long distance relationships for sure
This song reminds me of my daughter leaving home for the first time and how much I missed her. Makes me tear up. She still lives so far away. :(
lyric videos are so much better than official videos. perfect song.
This is one of the most beautiful songs my ears have heard in a long time. Genius, brilliant, brings tears to my eyes, I could not be more stoked for this album. I seriously love you guys.
×2 💙
This reminds me of my daughter. I live in Oregon and she lives in South Carolina. We talk over messenger and I count the hours on my hand to the timezone she's at.
I'm a pretty casual Death Cab fan..but the music from this album is REALLY speaking to me. I love what they're doing sonically right now. This is so great!
bought this album on a whim....best whim ever :)
I met a really nice French lady in a café in London in May 2018 but unfortunately because I had just lost my a job I didn't have enough money to see her again that summer and later in the year she went off to Mexico for her university but by some miracle we stayed in contact on Facebook messenger. She returned to France the year after and I had sorted myself out by then and in January of this year (2020) I was able to go to France to visit her. I went through quite a hard time over the Christmas period leading up to it though and I would listen to this song regularly to help get me through it. If by some chance Bed Gibbard reads this I want to be thank him for helping me get thought a difficult period of my life. 👍
What a ride. Hope you'll eventually find the stability you need to be able to see her again
Just recently started in on this band, and I like the simplicity of the lyrics a lot, it lets you appreciate the songs that may not be meant for you all the same. The singing is top notch and expressive without being whiny, and the overall mood is really chill and awesome. Definitely going to be listening for a while
this group is musical genius, every word of every song seems to be thought out and planned. wow!!
I've never heard a song, about long distant relationships, done so uniquely and so beautifully. Certainly my new favorite song. :D
I feel happy that this band exists in this world, bringing beauty to our eyes. Thousands of feelings run through my body when your music plays.
Perfection. I have never been this excited for an album.
ahh i'm so hooked on this song and this band
First, let me say that I love this song, but for reasons that I think are different from others. I may be looking too far into this, but I have a theory on this song. There are so many opportunities for this song to go somewhere cool in a musical sense, but it always just falls off and goes back to the same chords/riffs in the end. My theory is that this song and the next in the album, "You've Haunted Me All My Life", are actually a two-part.
Looking at it that way, this song is meant to be disappointing, just like the Little Wanderer is as a person. Together the songs become a tale of waiting for someone that always lets you down, and finally managing to let that person go despite loving them still.
I don't know why I felt compelled to share this, but I love listening to it in that light.
deep....I think you might be right there.....
i would gladly Walk down that interpretive path you made here
The song is mostly sad, but that third verse is all the change we need.
i am impressed with that analysis. i can see all of that, and now, I too agree...
Tis good, and probably their best release since Plans (for me at least), but nothing... NOTHING can top Transatlantacism. That album is a masterpiece.
really? i didn't think that one was that good. but I do like this song.
Nah, this song kills
That’s a good name
I approve
I like Plans the most, but Kintsugi is growing on me
Title and Registration is one of my favorite songs of all time though.
Narrow stairs is the best
Love the song, plus these lyric videos are really well done!
This is going to break my replay button.
Cried my eyes out listening to this album, because it connects to you on such a deep emotional level. It's beautiful.
My boyfriend left 2 months ago to live overseas for 11 months, and he resents me for not taking it well. This song breaks my heart.
+patchyxx I can keep u company until he gets back ;-)
+John Locked thats pretty fucked up
+Sam Prinsen Welcome to the internet :/
+patchyxx look on the bright side. Only 7 more months left.
+patchyxx six more months, darling
And here I sit in front of my pc, crying. because of the beauty of this song.. (and because I recently went through a breakup, but this song fits so well...)
same man, had to take a break from death cab when that went down.
***** same:´(
And unfortunately same here too
***** They all fit Chester, they all do. Me too. Hang in there dude

What a beautiful stunning piece
Ben Gibbard has always been one of my biggest inspirations in my songwriting. I'm so grateful for all the music he's ever made and I hope to one day be for someone else what he was for me.
I'm soo excited for this album. Plans helped me through a rough breakup and that's Ben's best quality. .... writing amazing songs we all can relate to. And the music. .. s oooooooo good!
wow, the intro to this song gave me goosebumps and made my eyes start to well with tears
I stumbled on to this video indirectly after looking at various kintsugi videos and am absolutely stunned by how perfectly this song articulates what is going on in my mind as I am currently trying to work things out with my girlfriend who lives in.....you guessed it....Tokyo while I live in the U.S. Great song.
How did it work out?
This rips my heart apart. Almost twenty years after our long-distance relationship ended. Or does it ever end? Thank you for your genius, balancing maudlin and soulful on a razor's edge.
I am so looking forward to this album! This song is sort of like 80s indie rock (shades of The Cure?) crossed with mid-period R.E.M. So good!
So I found The Postal Service (a side project from 2003) about a week ago through the radio. Since then I have listened to every album of Death Cab for Cutie and it's weird/amazing how they continue to produce gold like this.
Other than The Postal Service album, Death Cab's 3rd and 5th albums have to be my favorite, this one is probably next on that list.
love the song! my favorite band hands down. Ben Gibbard is definitely one of the best musicians ever!
🖤
some of the best songwriting comes from these guys, just excellent.
The animation on this is absolutely beautiful, just like the song itself :)
Perhaps i should start actively working on improving my life rather than complaining.
Me too!

That's the wisest comment I have heard.

This has always been one of my favorite songs
I sing this to my girlfriend all the time, our lyrics are "if you'll be my bluebird returning, then I'll be your evergreen" this song is heartbreaking
I have an ex girlfriend in Japan.. The first lines just ripped my heart apart.
My niece and nephew and brother are in Japan. I was just looking up the cheapest way to make a larger print of an art piece they asked me to make for them and mail it. Then I got a from a friend asking if I'd heard this yet so I looked it up.
The opening ripped my heart to sheds.
Yeah, i'm on the other side of that. I live in Asia now and I had literally JUST sent my 'friend' a picture of the cherry blossoms out my window when I heard this. I had only been half listening to my music but when I heard that line it was like a bucket of ice water being thrown in my face.
Yeah, sad stuff.
I found someone through a mutual interest, she's halfway across the world, we've never met IRL, probably never will but I'm so grateful she's part of my life, especially nowadays. Talking to her is the brightest part of my day. Just friends or an LDR, both are great for me and she already knows it. I just wish she were here.
Lately I've been going through some slightly traumatic stuff and she's so great at keeping me grounded. I admire her emotional intelligence, also I opened up with her. This is a full blown crush by now and whether or not something comes from it we're comfortable with any outcome.
You know who you are and if you're reading this, remember Little Wanderer, you set the tone. Don't let anything tell you otherwise. *Hugs*
This song reminds me of my friend and I if we ever date. His favorite band is Death Cab For Cutie and I've been listening to them lately because I think of him. I just think that if we ever date, this could be "our song" because I am always traveling and I want to be his "Little Wanderer."
this is pure beauty. Excellent as always from DCFC!
This song is simply beautiful!!!!!
So is your comment:)
This band is so good!
Was thinking about my nephew and niece 7,000 miles away right before I saw this post.
Glad I clicked the link. I really needed it.
So excited for this album...majorly digging that reverb/delay/chorus guitar tone...
loving this. the way the melody and lyrics are done reminds me a bit of Rush. Unique but reminds me of that style. really great.
I'm his little wanderer. Our network always overloads. Across the sea, we'll always be. This song is my life.
I dont know what it is, but something about this simple, yet beautiful, dreamlike song is really touching
I felt British 80's new wave vibes in this song.
how? it didn't feel that at all
+Syflop
Me neither, and I'm a big 80's fan. Song is great tough.
+John Butler A brand New Order...
hello drones
+Nick Valensi Depeche Mode....also some The Cure in some other songs.
There is a certain sweetness and earnestness in his voice; it pulls me right in and makes me long for that thing he is singing about.
Words cannot describe my love for this song.
I'm already in love with this album and it's not even out yet. Might knock off Plans as my favorite DCFC album, not an easy feat.
This made me smile. Such a beautiful song.
One of my most favorite summer songs... Two seconds in and I'm taken down in the Snake River Canyon biking around the trails by Auger Falls. Just relaxing yet somehow intense... Like Jack Johnson mixed with Muse
basically everytime i met someone online and it went sour. this song makes me go all melancholy with those days. i don't really know why it never worked out. but this song definetly captures those emotions. i think.
I love this so much! Can't wait to see you guys in Berkeley!!!
You sent a photo out your window of Tokyo
Told me you were doing fine
You said the cherry blossoms were blooming
And that I was on your mind
But I couldn't make you out through the glitches
It's how it always seems to go
So we say our goodbyes over messenger
As the network overloads
When the network overloads
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
Off across the sea
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
Won't you wander back to me
Back to me
Always fall asleep when you're waking
I count the hours on my hands
Doing the math to the time zone you're at
Is an unseen part of the plan
But if you'll be my bluebird returning
Then I'll be your evergreen
Standing tall on your horizon
Guiding you home to me
Guiding you home to me
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
Off across the sea
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
Won't you wander back to me
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
How I wish that you could see
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
How I need you back with me
Back with me
You sent a photo out your window of Paris
Of what you wish that I could see
But someone's gotta be the lighthouse
And that someone's gotta be me
And I hope your absence makes us grow fonder
I hope we always feel the same
When our eyes meet past security,
We embrace in the baggage claim
When we kiss in the baggage claim
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
Off across the sea
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
Won't you wander back to me
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
How I wish that you could see
You're my wanderer, little wanderer
How I need you back with me
Back with me
Thnaks! 😊❤
Beautiful song. Expresses all my sentiments, because I'm far away from home. It's definitely DCFC all the way!
Dcfc songs are sad and beautiful. Pierces the heart.
I didn't like this song at first, but then that guitar part just is so simple but it is powerful in imagery...Great song Ben, he is a major force in songwriting..I've heard the whole album and I didn't have real high expectations going in because of codes and keys and Chris leaving vibes...but I have to say Kintsugi has by far surpassed my expectations and it is an A+ album..Chris went out in a blaze of glory....
These first 4 singles have already eclipsed all of 'Codes and Keys' for me.
Thanks for everything, guys! Much LOVE and LIGHT 💜☀️💜
all 4 songs they released so far have been amazing. A billion times better than anything on their last record.
You are a tourist is pretty good
St. Peter's Cathedral and Doors Unlocked and Open are good too
Chris's guitar work on this song made me cry, i cried when he left the name after this album.
I'm gonna see my little wanderer this friday.
I hope it went well 👍
:)
☺️
I love this video!! It was just as fun watching this video as listening to it. Very mellow and fun to listen to. one of my new favorites off this album.
I feel like this song would have fit perfectly on Transatlantacisum, For me personally there has never been a bad song by this band. Just the way Ben executes his words and peaces them together makes me want to dance around my room every time.
The DJ in my head plays this song on repeat at least once a week. Reminds me of some of the best guitar parts from Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence. Simply beautiful.
A sad song with a taste of love, just what I'd expect from Death Cab. They know how to make the perfect mix, and add amazing lyrics. Great new album, guys! I, as well as all the other fans here are eagerly waiting for more music!
stunning, so beautiful. i have yet to see my fav band live. god, i love you death cab
Seeing them while out in LA in July. I can't wait.
very lucky!
Seen them 3 times now...gets better every time! Definitely try to make it out to a show ASAP
This is such a chill song.
Great music
I am hearing a great Neil Young sound in there.. Good stuff
You know as I reflect on seeing this song being played live two months ago, though I was dancing, the performance carried an immense emotionality in every tone. And now as I realise how it can obviously apply to me in my current relationship scenario.
Great band....suena via radio Doble Nueve saludos desde Lima-Peru
ajam!!. simplemente excelente
I'm loving this. Very Cure-esque. Their music always evokes such emotion.
this album is incredible so far
Brilliant! Wish they'd make videos for all the songs on an album!
bought this album on a whim....best whim ever :)
I'm more a 'lone wanderer' than a 'little wanderer'
makes you kinda little bein all alone like that
You're so pretty ! God !
I'm actually glad that I didn't know about this song at a certain period of my life. I can listen to it now, but back then... it'd have sent me down paths I wouldn't want to be go down..
i appreciate the mix of this song from a producer perspective
This is a beautiful song. Very emotional. I am looking forward to the new album.
Thank you for releasing another one! This one is lovely!!
Just wow
This song has a haunting melody with words that have lingered on my mind. Beautiful. It feels like Plans, but with a change that is welcoming. I do love the visual for this song: it resembles a dream i had though in blue and colors, not gray.
Death cab, you have outdone yourself yet again! Never fails to impress!
I wish they would play this song in concert more often. I think it only makes a set-list about a third of the time. It's really an underappreciated staple of theirs.
And yet Gibbard also indulges some explicit nostalgia for older Death Cab-during the climactic kiss in the baggage claim, the song reveals itself as basically fan-fic to the video for "A Movie Script Ending".
This song can be for anyone who has a loved one far away. For me, I have a daughter stationed in Okinawa, Japan. I don't mind saying that it choked me up. Great song with great sound form a great band. Yes, I do time zone math every day.
this song relates to me so much it's amazing how heartwarming dcfc's songs are.... :')
I met this spectacular guy online we have been skyping nearly every day ,I stay up for him 12 am till 4 am and go to school at 8 am. it has been 5 months and I haven't even seen him before in real life, he is going to come over in a month. This song perfectly explains how I feel.I look to the stars in the night while listening to this song and make up tons of scenarios that may or may not come true.
Buying this today.
"You are, an 18 year old girl who live in small city in Japan [...] Why are you so far away from me? I need help and you're way across the sea." - Rivers Cuomo/Weezer ("Across the Sea")
This song reminded me of weezer too 😂😂😂
Beautiful! Love it.
All your music is incredible but this is my favorite
