It's so weird to see him just... silent. Just some quiet "oooo"s and "wooo"s and clicks. I'm so used to his constant commentary on everything! He seems to act a little more shy and reserved too. I've never seen him want your scratches before he had soleil to do it for him.
It's amazing what animals are capable of learning just by interacting with them and communicating with them. Obviously, my dog can't speak English - but it's unbelievable how many regular words she understands that people use every day. Friends and family will say that she looks directly at you when you are speaking to her, as though she's listening. My friends are weirded out because she understands more complicated words like "Fireplace", and she'll sit in front of it and wait for you to turn it on.
very funny how dalton actually treats him like a baby in this, compared to how things are now... you two are really getting the whole parenting experience but with birds lol
@@nanyummyify Well they don't treat him like a baby anymore, they don't do cutesy voices when talking to him and stuff, they've settled into normal day-to-day mode and not "first day with the puppy" mode, if that makes any sense
Three homestucks in one small comment section... Anyway, breaking or cracking is different from shredding. The point being that Apollo's beak is very sharp
The only bird I’ve seen totally smash her food (and gets it all over her beak, but you can tell she is eating good when she eats!) is Ducky, Beaker and Tinkerbelles baby! You’ll have to go through a ton of shorts, but once you find the video I’m referring to, you’ll know! Plus, you will fall in love with them (if you haven’t already!) 😊
@ I mean, it's the same with all birds I see eat, and no matter what they eat! I guess that's where the saying "eats like a bird" came from. And yes, I am a Beaker fan. :)
i always say “they have no lips! they have no ability to keep anything in their mouth!” have you ever seen anyone try to eat with those dental things that open your mouth really wide and show your teeth? they struggle
Watching baby Apollo get used to the idea of gripping food with feet just really highlights for me how weird it must be to be a bird. Imagine having to grab all your food with your feet and bring it all the way up to your mouth, because your arms are wings.
Holding your food like this is pretty exclusive to parrots! Most birds don’t have flexible enough feet or the right toe alignment to do this. Parrot feet are specialized to have one toe that acts very similarly to a thumb. You can see it here 5:42 actually, how one of the toes is clearly separate from the rest
Oh such a darling baby Apollo! Making cute baby noises, and doing what Greys do, throwing stuff on the floor, only eating part of his food, the rest is for fertilizing the “forest floor”. They know to open the ends of the bones to get the calorie rich marrow.
In the mid-nineties, I raised a clutch of African greys named Zeus, Apollo and Athena. So, I briefly had an Apollo, too. :) One of many clutches of clumsy little baby greys.
Awwwwwww, he doesn't even talk yet!! ❤️ This is just SO adorable and thank you for sharing this, 🥰 Boy, has Apollo come a LONG way, all thanks to his amazing parents, ❤️
Now that you mention it he has other features that remind me of a dinosaur - a big body and little hands! Kind of like...a T-Rex, perhaps? A T-Rex Apollo! 😁
So cute. Apollo has come such a long way. He is amazing. You and Tori have done such great work with Apollo. Comparing Corvids and Apollo - which species would be the most intelligent? Keep up the good work with Apollo. ❤
they were even bigger before the time this video was recorded, baby african greys have pupils that basically cover their entire eyes and they grow smaller as the bird grows up
Awwww little baby Apollo before he learned all his words 🥺 I just love watching birds use their beak and tongues to feel of something their eating and their little pupils are just going crazy. Birds of all kinds are such majestic and wonderful dinosaurs!
Awww baby will be world record owner with his parents 🥰 Every animal friends have the endless potential if you love and care them deeply as family 🥰 Ps: the excitement when whisle 😊 (was that Zelda Song btw?)

He was exclusively in “listening mode” lol 👂🦜💕
Then: Oooo Oooo
Now: Actually Dalton, that’s made of glass
😁😁😁😁👍
lol
One year later:
father, i desire pistash.
lol
I heard that in an apollo voice
Yep!
As a baby Apollo got only a bl.bone...😂
Brother, may I have some pistash

In ten years we're going to be studying the long term effects of being a child TH-camr on the minds of birds.
"It's a camera. You're going to be seeing a lot of this."

actually watching apollo shredding up that BONE puts it into perspective how powerful those beaks are

It's so strange to see him dropping stuff without saying "oop." or "drop."
"Ooh, you've dropped it in your sh*t this time. Can't give it back to you now." One of the scenarios all bird owners get acquainted with. 🤣
I swear, birds eat like cookie monster -- I never notice anything actually going down, it just ends up on the floor!

Nice to see him get back to his velociraptor roots with that bone.
Now he is a distinguished gentleman who orders and loves pistachio, while answering questions.
From the 'saurus to thesaurus. :P
It’s bizarre seeing silent Apollo
Glassk, the prequel
It’s a prequel to the modern day installment: Apollo 2, the pistashening.
GLASSK: NORWEGIAN for GLASS. 😎🇧🇻😁

Why it's feels like early 2000's type tapes? Like so old.. Geez.. Apollo my boy you growed in our hand literally
There is no greater bond than a man
And his African Grey Parrot.
Teaser for the Apollo Origin Story! Coming to theaters only in your mind as you zone out while you’re supposed to be paying your taxes.
Lol
wow, amazing
You have taught him a lot in 4 years
Love how he got excited when you started whistling to him
Just 9 months and he's already a character. He ain't talking but you just know that's our Apollo.
"I know you didn't mean to drop that."
Little did he know...
He's so tiny and bitty. Awh 🥺
Apollo has come a long way. The camera work has too! 😂
New analogue horror series, apollo found footage
So quiet haha and without the sounds of the girls as well. Such a cute video though, love his progress!
Is he whistling the "song of storms" from Zelda Ocarina of time? You sir made my day hahaha
its definitely the song of storms, just a bit out of tune
@@BrowniePembroke that's right, song of storms! Thnx
Yeah, albeit extremely off key
@@BrowniePembroke Not the song of storms. Saria's song. 17:15
Not the song of storms. It's Saria's song. Edit: I realize he did both in this vid. Saria song came later on. 17:15
Now he can Fly!! What a big bird!
raising him as matured everyone involved
00:47 Look at those little wingies tryin' to zoom! 😍
He treats broccoli the same way all children do 😂
"Do you like it steamed or cold, Apollo?"

He was so cute oh my gosh 😭
Was?!?!?!

seeing him eat a bone is a llittle bit horrifying. he reminds me too much of a dinosaur

0:54 Hey, the Song of Storms! A man of culture I see! 😂
He does both Song of Storms and Saria's song in the vid. ( 17:15 ) I messed up the timestamp on which.
baby!!!! could-chew-through-your-finger baby!! you'd think babies are more chaotic but he's just a shy little guy

Seeing him so quiet is truly shrocking
Awww 😳 Nous Schrock Petit. Nous beau garçon petit 😊
Apollo does not seem much of a fan of cardboard to...
Apollo now: *Cardboard*
Does Apollo still get bones? He seemed to really enjoy them. What fun watching young Apollo and what a smart boy he has turned out to be.
I can tell his personality shown since he is a baby that’s the same for my gray parrot he always been a nervous shy boy ✨😭
What a testament to how much he’s learned!! GLASK
Would love to see more vids like this on the main channel, just the casual day in a life stuff
I agree!
Apollo! Consumer of bones! Destroyer of worlds!
Baby Apollo's eyes will never cease to wierd me out a little. It's hard to explain, but the pupils look way bigger.
im pretty sure younger african greys actually do have bigger pupils. the eyes of the really baby ones basically look completely black.
they were even bigger before the time this video was recorded, baby african greys have pupils that basically cover their entire eyes and they grow smaller as the bird grows up
Apollo's eyes are adorable! Everything about Apollo is adorable. He's a sweet feathery baby!
