I'm just now seeing this video. I know it's an old one. For the last 2 years I have been using washable feminine products. I love them. My teenage girls use them now also. I am transitioning to un paper Paper towels now
That was a swap I made a few years ago as well and it was a game changer. Less pain physically and financially. 😅 Thank you for watching! I hope your paper towel swap is an easy transition for you! 😊
Just 29 second in ..thank you! I hope I can learn some ideas from you! I have done this off and on to SOME degree for over a decade but want more ideas
I have been trying to reduce our dependence on paper towels for a while now. I have a ton of old towels and cut-up T-shirts that I use as rags. I use the majority of the paper towels in the kitchen, especially around greasy pans, and for the bird feeders in the yard. We only get 1 small local newspaper but maybe I can save those and use them instead. Thanks for the inspiration!
That's awesome! I hear you on the greasy pans!! One of my least favorite messes. I would have never thought to use a newspaper for that, we usually end up using ours as a fire starter. But I love that idea of repurposing them in the kitchen!!!
I use bamboo kitchen rolls. They can be washed & reused, every wash they get softer & more absorbent. I also use them to make homemade baby wipes & homemade disinfectant wipes & just store a week's worth in a jar.1 roll has lasted ages & bamboo is sustainable too
@@survivor2530 I've seen those in sponsored ads here and there but have never looked into them further. That's exciting to hear that they work well as baby wipes. I'm guessing they're far less bulky than a traditional rag.
Wow! I had to go back and listen to the amount of paper towels people use PER MONTH! I maybe used a roll a month when my boys were little but we do not go through an even one in a month now with just my husband and l. Unless we have a major project going on, like cleaning the oven we might go through more, but I live So. California so trying to use less water is the goal. I have done the laundry stripping once, I did expect it to be dirty than it was, so either my clothes were not too bad or I did do it right, either way I did not feel like this was best use of water (again with the water!) and my time. But it is satisfying to see when a bit brighter clothes.
Yeah, that number is CRAZY! Even when we constantly had a roll on our counter, we never used close to that much. I think for some people any reusable dish towels are just not something that’s used. 🤷🏻♀️ We do now have a “meat/fish” roll in a drawer. I’ve ended up having to toss one too many towels after my husband used it for fish or meat and didn’t tell me. 🤮 I could definitely see how in California it would make more sense to choose options that are going to use less water though. Thank you for watching! 😊💕
I want to start making the switch to cloth paper towels. We don't use 8-10 rolls a month, maybe 1 roll a week or every two weeks but I really want to cut that back. Right now I use pee pee cloths and have been using them for years. That saves a lot of toilet paper.
It wasn’t hard to adapt to once we got the paper towels out of the house. I will say that within the last year I have come to accept that an emergency roll is a necessity. I got tired of my husband drying off fish or meat with my towels and stinking up the laundry. Also sometimes.. with pets and kids, you just need to be able to throw away everything.😅
@@SimplifyingTheSatherns buy a mesh laundry bag, those small ones from Walmart. Put a small trash container in your bathroom, line it with a plastic grocery bag, put the mesh laundry bag in the small garbage can. When it gets about 1/2 to 3/4 full, take the mesh bag out, zip it up and throw it in the laundry, replace with another mesh bag. There's no smell. I usually wash between once a week and sometimes if we're traveling in our RV I've gone a month. Pee is sterile when it comes out.
@@sharonbelieves We have a bidet that helps. I just use wash clothes. I need to get to the dollar store and buy some mesh bags for this.. it is just me and my bf and we don't share bathrooms. so I just put it into my laundry. I really enjoyed your video. I just do a hot water soak with OxiClean Versatile, which has a pH level somewhere between the pH of Borax and super washing soda. My theory is that regular washing isn't fully able to remove the oils from our bodies that get embedded in the fabrics (especially if using cold water in the washing machine) and the alkaline products used in laundry stripping are excellent degreasers. They're not quite as strong as oven cleaner but pretty close. Again, great content and I like what you're about so I'm off to watch more of your videos!
I've come across similar findings and you're not along in your theory. I agree with you. Sometimes the clothes just need a little extra help. Also.. thank you for reminding me to research oven cleaning methods. 😂 (Please let me know if you have a product you're a fan of) ... I have been putting it off since we moved in and it needs to happen badly. 🙃😅
@@SimplifyingTheSatherns I'm the furthest thing from a cleaning expert but I can tell you what didn't work! I wanted to try a non-toxic solution so I covered my oven in a paste of baking soda, water, and dish soap. After letting it sit for a long time (longer than suggested because I was really not looking forward to cleaning it up), my intuition was right that it was going to be a b!tch to wipe up the sludgy mess. Plus, it didn't do anything to cut through the really burnt on (presumably) cheese. Super washing soda has a high pH (similar to conventional oven cleaner) so maybe you could make that into a paste with better results. If you watch Aurikatariina, she covers the oven cleaner that she uses with plastic wrap so the product doesn't dry up during the dwell time. I'd love to see you try it and find out if it works!

Yay for the bidet club! 😂 I just switched hardcore to all cloth wipes for my bidet but still have a roll of TP for emergencies and my husband lol. 😅 My most current wipe addition was a no longer white Tshirt of his. I got like 12 wipes from that thing haha. Let me know how the flannel works for absorbency. My husband complains that half of our towels in the kitchen just push liquid around and he’s not wrong. My favorites when it comes to absorbency have been old bathroom hand towels that I’ve cut in half to use in the kitchen for clean up.
I ♥️ washing soda and Borax… as well as peroxide, baking soda, vinegar, Dr Bronner’s (unscented) castile soap - and Dawn dish detergent, although that’s not a “natural” product. I’ve stripped certain things, and though I’ve done it in the tub before, I prefer to do it right in the washer when I can. I have cut up several sheets and shirts in my day to lessen / offset our paper towel usage, as well as supplement my sneezy son’s Kleenex habit. 😅 I long to rely solely on fabric “scraps,” but still use paper products for [unmentionable wiping], food + automotive greases, blood, or anything I deem as “toxic” from our dog. 😂😅 You are an inspiration, though! I welcome any further tips and advice for ridding our home and landfills of paper products. PS- I recently clicked on TH-cam’s suggestion to check out your channel, and I’m SO glad I did. I don’t waste my time cleaning the tub unless there’s physical dirt and general outdoor debris (courtesy of two boys) and even that I just rinse down the drain. But yes, it does loosen any grime within the tub and you have to clean the tub after so it’s a win win.
