The motorplex seem to run a drag way and speedway side by side brilliantly Why can’t these guys ? Seriously the motorplex have made us on the east coast look like dicks
Motorplex had its issues. And I think the Speedway and dragway were built together. So never had the issue of integrating. I think the main issue is finance, and having sydney dragway put there hands in the jar has just added to the costs of whoever finally becomes manager of the Speedway side of things
Dragway has its own huge range of political and business dramas- it's been that way for decades. Cluster fucks all round, but at least the drag strip is functional and used 😢
The motorplex was built 25 years ago, for just over 18 million, with the state government listening to dirt track experts, then leaving it to the experts to run. Without trying to profit from it.
Id love to see private hire days during off season. We do it with racetracks and drag strips- how good would it be to have our clubs be able to hire the place for a day and run full day practices and trials.
Would love to hear a quote from Andrew Constance on where it’s all currently at, given he was the public face of the start of all this and claimed building a speedway was easy
Thanks Toby. Lots of facts there that most people would not be aware of - especially the Beuk connection. I am going to write a letter to the Ministers involved asking them to Please Explain. If others do the same, it may well stir something up. Remember, Ministers and their departments will always take the easy option so don't expect much more than a vanilla response full of crap.

Very well presented and researched Toby. Clearly the new speedway was built very incorrectly on the wrong place. Govt to take blame for that one. Too small a venue. Track is ok once and if the drainage is fixed. It seems a couple of blokes with some idea is trying to improve the track but without the drainage fixed it is useless. But to me crowd capacity is too small for a big city. Speedway Park could take near twice that many and did on occasion and that in Adelaide a smaller city. The car park is far bigger, the pits are bigger and it WAS the best venue in the country. So how the hell did they come up with what they have? Dust, to me an overstated problem. Speedway Pk and AIR drags ran on the same night often with seemingly no issues. I have road raced, in the dark at AIR on the same night as a speedway meeting and the track was no different. Maybe on a cold dewey night there may be some issue. But drag strips get very slick on cold nights as well. I have watched wild bunch cars on a cool night. Tailem Bend slightly less a dusbowl seem to be doing ok. And their opening day for road racing I could see the dust 30k away. Going to the Mount [to get rained out] and on our way back sunday morning.

Having gone to Parramatta since 1978. yes i know im getting old. Sydney definitely needs a Speedway up and running. So, I believe to NSW Government should save face and at least charge NO COST to the new promotion team for at least 2-5 years. Find a company that is totally interested and financial to run the venue. And be like any entertaining venue. GET BUMS on seats . The seats/parking/track condition can be altered over time. But just get the fans what they are craving for.

The Government should fund a 3-5 year contract to get the corrections done and make it established. That way a promoter can take it into the future under it’s own merit, especially after their blunder of a build. This would win back public opinion and show their support for the sport. Maybe they could establish a control board over that 3-5 year period with someone like yourself attached to manage it? Something needs to happen, that’s for sure.
