Rudy. Great video , following on from watching I went and ordered one. One question I have is. I'm running Traincontroller Silver but in the digital set up window I can't find a selection for the DR5000, What am I missing or is there an alternative selection. I so which one? Many thanks Alan
Hi Allan, that's great! In TC 'Setup Digital Systems' the list has an entry called 'Loconet', with one entry inside, also called 'Loconet' ... that's the one to select. When you open your DR5000 app on the PC and click the USB2 button (top left) it shows which COM port Loconet is using. Select that COM port in the drop down list in TC and all should be well. In case you also use Loconet for your train detection feedback, take care to first go to the DR5000 S88 and select 0 (zero) S88 units there, else they might conflict with your Loconet sensor addresses.
Hi Rudy, one more question: your video does not clarify when to plug the power supply (first use). The manual tells exactly the order of set up: install the software, connect DR5000 with PC via USB, open the app, but the manual, does not tell when to plug in the power supply either - can you please advise? Is it needed at all when connecting via USB? Thanks
Which computer layout control software integrates the most seamlessly with the Digikeijs controls? It seems that RR&Co requires a lot of tweaking with this system.

How then to turn on/off the DR5000, without using computer? The devices has green and red buttons, that it doesn't say it is power on/off - How do you know, that the loco you present is at the address 65? Is it already programmed? If so, how to programme the addresses for new locos? Thanks in advance for your help.
siddywiddyb Track voltage is some 2V lower than the voltage setting chosen on the power supply. If you fear it'll still be too much for your engines you can always place one or more diodes in series between the unit and the rails to lower the rail voltage.
siddywiddyb Any 'standard' diode will do, as long as it's specified for the maximum current you draw. The DR5000 can deliver 3A, if your diodes are rated for 4A all will be safe.
I recently bought a DR5000, Installed 1.5.1 software and plugged it in. Followed the manual did not get any reaction. Then i started looking online found your vidoe wich is very good and clear. So following everything you did step by step we do get a reaction on the DR but not on the connected track. The Loc adres is 1 because we tested our digital loc with a fleischman Lok-Boss. (Separate of the DR). And the loc works perfectly fine. The only thing that I did was to install its own wifi. and download the Roco Z21 app, (The step to do that where done by following the manual.) Now if we choose adres 1 on the app as well as on the pc we can see on both devices that if we increase speed they are synced up. I did reset every setting (it still rememberd its own wifi after resetting everything) and tryed again. But got the same reaction every time. I do know the loc is on adres 1 because if we read out the decoder (by programming Headtrack) it says its on 1, we put another loc on wich is 3 its reads 3). I have not found any relatable topic on forums about this problem yet. Greets me.
I'm not 100% sure if I understand your problem, there are so many things mentioned in your email. If you have the track connected to the DCC track terminals, you have the DR connected to the PC via USB, you start the program, have the DR User Interface on your PC screen, you open the Control Window and enter 1 in the address ... when you throttle up nothing happens? Also not with another loc on address 3? If you open the Switch window, can you switch a turnout?
CrafttingMan These locs drive OK with another DCC system? Can you measure if there is an AC voltage on the track, or better even, do you have an oscilloscope to check the DCC voltage?
@@rudyshobbychannel The loc boss from fleischman is a dcc system and the locs work perfectly when i use that. And i did measure the AC and with the powersupply on 16V it gives 15.7V.
CrafttingMan We can't ignore the possibility that the DR id broken yet, and the measurement tells that there is power on the track. Are you 100% certain that all the settings are OK with relation to this loc? Right number of speed steps, right address, right protocol? Can you lend another loc from a friend and try that out? Can you place the loc on the programming track and read the address? Then give it another address and try again? If nothing helpds, then the only thing to check is the DCC signal itself ... for that you would need to build a DCC sniffer (can be found on my youtube channel, do a search for DCC sniffer arduino).
hi Rudy, excellent video, great tutorial about the DR5000 step by step. i watched your 4 videos about this product.I am a french user of Marklin C track (but i don't operate a digital system at the moment). 1) Do you believe that the DR5000 could be efficient (and reliable) to operate the Marklin DCC hardware (new M83 and new M84) ?2) and second question is the DR5000 efficient to operate the new Marklin L88 Link with a software train ??Thank you for your answer.Laurent
FAMILLE DE LAPOUGE I really would not know, ai know literally nothing about Marklin. All I can say is the DR5000 does not incorporate the Marklin Motorola protocol, only DCC. If these 'new' Marklin devices adhere to the DCC standard and operate on DCC then I don't see a reason why it would not work.

Last question : you made 4 excellent videos about the dr5000, it would make sense if you try to operate the dr5000 with a train software ? i saw your video about the free version of itrain. Would you like to operate itrain using the dr5000 ? i don t have a huge budget for my digital hardware, that is why i try to determine a reasonnable price for my jump to digital operating. At the moment my project is to buy the dr5000 and use the FREE app z21 on a wifi tablet and itrain in the free version. So for 155 euros, official retail price of the dr 5000 and a few decoders, i would be able to make the jump to this new way to use my marklin harware. Thank you again for all the clear explanation. Any good for n guage? As i saw on the manual, the lowest supply is 15v? I would need less than 12v to save the decoders from burning out!

siddywiddyb Make sure you use diodes in both directions, since DCC is an AC current. If you use 2 diodes in series, have two more 'anti-parallel'.

@@rudyshobbychannel Indeed nothing happens on adres 1 or 3. As it is a test track it's a simple 0 shape and does not contain any turnouts.
