    I've been to the island over a dozen times over the years....a great place. Rode our bikes up to the airport one time (it is the highest elevation of the island) just in time to see a Beech Bonanza take off. What a beauty way to go.

      fullscalepilot Hey Eric! No, I will have to try it next time I’m up there. I’ve also been to the mustang lounge. It’s one of the only places open after the tourist season. Seems like it’s the locals place to go. They have a J3 cub prop on the wall and plenty of aviation pictures on the wall. Pretty neat spot.

    I only agree with the author on one thing. Mackinaw Island is one of the coolest places in the world. I would still rather take one of the unique ferries to the Island b/c of the amazing "ground view" of the Bridge and Straights. They offer very unique views and perspectives just like flying offers. More importantly, its probably a whole lot cheaper.

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      topgeardel Definitely would recommend the ferry ⛴ at least once. I’d agree it’s a unique and fun experience. My preferred method is still by air.

    I learned to fly 40 miles north of there in Sault Ste. Marie ON ... I cross that beast of a bridge about 5 times a year going back home ... I enjoyed your video ... Flew planes in the past Piper PA31, Cessna 401, MU2 and Citation C500 enjoyed your video nice to see familiar ground ... BTW I was based in Thunder Bay for a while crossed Superior many times in the fall is my favorite time of year !!!

    great flight. nice landing but did you really need all that reverse. beta and a little brakes would have sufficed

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would rather use it than not. Realizing you need it once it’s too late isn’t a fun situation.

  • @njvazquez
    @njvazquez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome video. I love the King Air. I would suggest to not be so aggressive going into reverse. Brakes stop planes, not props. If one prop fails to go in reverse, a serious asymmetrical condition would be created and with that width of a runway, you could see your memories passing by in slow motion. I’ve experienced that while flying for Uncle Sam in Afghanistan and trust me, it’s no fun. Keep flying and stay safe!

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      njvazquez Funny you mention that. Actually had that happen since this was filmed. Definitely tries to pull the aircraft off the runway. Quickly took all the reverse off. Brakes do stop planes usually but I’ve had those not do the job either and in that case the reverse really saved us! Thanks for watching and giving some good feedback.

    It is actually and officially Mackinac Island, not Mackinaw Island; many people have this wrong. It is Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Bridge but Mackinac Island! Please verify and inform viewers. Safe flying, check six, sir.

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrian Dang Partly correct. It is Mackinac Bridge, Mackinac Island, and Mackinaw City. The pronunciation is the same on all but the city is spelled differently than the Bridge and Island.

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrian Dang It is said “The founders of Mackinaw City opted for the phonetic "aw" spelling, probably as a way to distinguish their town from Mackinac Island for confused postal carriers.”.....

    Aren't prop levers supposed to go full forward on approach Didn't appear that they were....and the engine rpm's seemed lower than usual for an approach...

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chuck Kirkpatrick I used to think that because in all the twins I flew that’s the way it was but in the E-90 it’s forward after touch down. Got called out on it and it’s right in the check list. Good question though.

    What's the airport identifier, I'd like to go there... Would you advise flying a Piper Warrior there??

    • @AviatorMark
      @AviatorMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CHRIS BROWN KMCD is the identifier. There is a landing fee during the summer months but it is not much. Like $10 or $15. I would definitely fly a Piper Warrior in there. No problem at all. I think I actually have done just that before. The little planes are actually more welcome there than the big boys.

    Just a little humorous feedback from a retired SwissAir , Swiss International A340 captain.
    As far as the pilot, I have never in my life heard so many procedures in my life. If In were the young guy, I would have left your non stop talking arse on the tarmac. 😁
    Although I've flown over it countless times; you kept pointing out Sky Harbor Airport. It has not been that long but I did not see desert, mountains or 1,000 Celsius temps. Unless Phoenix became tropical. 😎😎
    I heard you a few times saying "ladies & gentlemen"; I know the KingAir is a nice sized business/family jet... but I did not hear any screaming kids or ruckus from the cabin. And where in the hell was the cabin crew with beverages and at least a snack? They need to be seriously retrained or let go.... lazy butts...
    As far as that long bridge... Macaroni Island? (I think you said.) You guys were out in the middle of no where, you should have landed that puppy on the bridge..... be trendsetters.... that's what insurance is for...
    Looks like you guys had a great time... brings back memories I can bring up, but no desire to fly again... Car or trains is my method of travel these days... Airlines and people are wacko... Your guys enjoy.. thanks for the ride..
