It all depends on time and effort and the end of the day which this had. Helps that this was a single 20 minute movie too. The weekly anime's animation was almost non existent sometimes. Like a slideshow at best..
The director for this movie was a skilled beteran, Mamoru Hosoda. If you look back at the original show, you can tell the tone and direction is different to this one. Don't think when it was made matters in that regard.
Back in the late '90s, the English dubbers tore this movie to shreds, trying to remove the violence & Americanize it with a shitty soundtrack & jokes. But they never thought TH-cam would exist. Stop fucking censoring art, America! Let the kaiju battles be seen as they originally were meant to be seen! There isn't even any blood here! Greymon mauls Parrotmon's lower jaw because they're gigantic monsters! It's exciting!
@@edwardmendez2393 the sound effects were nice but I gotta say Hikari's narration throughout the movie and the music choice were mad corny to me. They also made greymon talk at points which makes him feel less like a larger-than-life beast, which was the whole point in this specific part
Never really watched the American version, but based on some clips of it I've seen, the tonal shift in music and the fact that they made them talk instantly put me off. It's obvious it wasn't intended to be like the TV show, but they had to butcher it to be American kids friendly I guess.

My point is the director chose Bolero de Ravel for a reason in the original soundtrack, pretty much because Bolero de Ravel is a song that starts slow and simple and builds up in a crescendo, just like Digimons are born as simple baby creatures and evolve to big and strong creatures. Bolero grows as the story is growing and the stakes get higher. When you replace it with a "cool song" like Going Digital, you're dismissing everything that the director wanted to give you when he thought about that scene. Also, Bolero gives a sense of grandeur to Digimon that the generic US soundtrack is unable to ever give us.
This Greymon is the same one from Season I. Here he was buffed by Hikari. Hikari was the one to make the Digiegg that wandered in the Human World hatch then evolve to Koromon then Agumon then Greymon. Hikari's crest has the same meaning as the presence of the power of "life"itself and it has the same meaning as “evolution” for the Digital world, or maybe even the same meaning as “truth” and “beauty.” Episode 37 of Adventure 02 states that the crests of hope and light are special among the 8. Light is the very thing that gives life to the world and hope means to not loose light when engulfed by darkness not just mere traits.The other traits are only by-products of this. The very same thing happend with Mugendramon. The power of the crest of light buffed Wargreymon. Wargreymon had the power of God buffing him as the novel states: Hikari held back her horror and sadness, and folded her hands together. Please. If God exists, then please give us strength. Hikari’s body suddenly glowed. It was the light of prayer. “Huh? What…?” Bathed in that light, Koromon looked up in surprise. He felt the power of evolution that had been depleted, returning. “Taichi, evolve me!” He urged his partner. Taichi nodded. “Can you do it? Then go for it!” “Koromon, evolve! Agumon! Agumon, warp-evolve! WarGreymon!” The evolution that he had given up on had been granted. WarGreymon held out the Dramon Killer on his right hand like a medieval knight holding out his lance, and charged at Mugendramon. “Uwoohhhhhhhhhh!” WarGreymon cut Mugendramon’s body in two with a single stroke."
The English version replaced the emotional music with ska & censored the violence. They butchered what was already an acceptable, genuinely exciting moment.
Going to be honest, I think the English version did the scene more justice from a music standpoint. Also giving Greymon a voice and the noise of the eye opening was far more dramatic. In saying that the original Japanese does the child voices way better, including the coughing. It is quiet a shame that the English version cuts out the beak being damaged.
Glad to know the American fans were satisfied with the American version, but as someone grew up with the original, I couldn't take the tonal shift seriously at all😂

the entire fight was brutal, parrotmon lost a wing and got a perforated beak, i dare not think how miserably he ended at the claws of greymon
Don't forget that Parrotmon in an Ultimate level digimon and Greymon is champion.

The american cut also added in a lot of SFX that made the impacts of the blows arguably stronger, and had more fitting music in my eyes.
