Shall we just forget the fact that she was abused for years whilst attending school. Let's also ignore the fact that lots of children are home educated in order to stop them being harmed in mainstream schools. How exactly would a home education register have saved this child, would it have made social services do their job correctly? The problem is not home education, the problem is failing services.
I totally agree. I work with home schooled children. The problem lies with the authorities and their reluctance to deal with the problem. 'Passing the buck' is not the answer.
It's because they don't like that so many children have been homeschooled since the lockdowns. You can ask any school how many concrrn forms they put in a day. It would have made no difference if the parents were good at lying. Like most abusers are. Remember the lady who killed her niece some years back? She complained every time someone raised a concern at the school.

These days I'd say schools are far more harmful to kids, imagine teachers telling your kids they can change sex if they want and sending them down a pathway to puberty blockers and surgery... they can withhold information from parents if suspect they don't agree with it as well.
I home educated my daughter, from the age of 9 years onwards. I'm in Scotland. As she was already in school, I had to get permission to take her out. A lady from the education dept came to the house, to meet us and find out what our plans were. She also checked with the social work dept that we were not known to them for any child protection reasons. If there had been any concerns, I would not have been granted permission. This is not the case in the rest of the UK. If you want to home educate a child, you just send a letter asking for them to be taken off the school roll. Even in Scotland, if your child has never been in school, you don’t need to get permission to not send them there. It should be the case that, if there are concerns over a child's welfare, then a parent chooses to home ed them, this should be a huge red flag and social services should get a request for an urgent intervention. Sadly, this does not seem to be the case. It is so sad and changes need to be made.

So once reported why was nothing done by social services and the police? Why did the guy get custody when he alreafy had previously reported violent behaviour?
The fact that, that poor girl was seen with bruises then taken out of school, the school n social services failed her!. If school has visits, then why wouldn’t home schooled kids! It’s literally common sense.
@patsmith8035 So you think the school could have prevented the child from being home schooled? Or do you think they have powers of entry into parents' homes to check on children, when parents don't allow access?
@candyman5912 if she attended school with bruises it was their responsibility to report, she wasn't protected at school any more than when home schooled.
@@patsmith8035 True, Social Services can enter with the police. But you are blaming the school, why? And even Social Services can not always guarantee they'll get police support to enter by force. The school did report the issues. So I don't see what else they could have done. When these things happen, we are always too quick to attribute the tragedy to incompetence by the authorities. Probably because we feel so awful about it, that we need a scapegoat.
Homeschooling works if the right parameters at home allow for it. This means parents with the right aptitude, attitude, and skill set to homeschool their children. It would be nice to be educated at a university or upper college to teach children from home as a requirement to teach children in a homeschooling environment. Homeschooling should allow time for encounters with friends by their children. Even if it's only every other week, friendships are important and time for that should be allotted. I feel the children would suffer from homeschooling if abuse was the main objective to the parents rather than teaching the children their basic academic subjects.
Schools have failed children over and over again that's why parents choose homeschooling stop comparing this case to the amazing homeschool parents who work tirelessly to provide their kids a safe environment to learn in.
No social services should have done there job. It was horrible what happened to this girl, but home school for some can be amazing, I always wanted to be home schooled because I got hurt so much at school and not one teacher did anything given the amount of times my mum told them, I told them etc...but their answer was to hit back even though the abuse at school was extreme from other children to a point in the end I developed extreme anxiety and couldn't even pass the school without panic attacks. I'm in my 30s now and still have flash backs from school days. I would never want to repeat school and if I'd had the choice I'd have loved home schooling. I think adults in school and out have to stop failing children in there care or who they are meant to be in care of maybe then we'd have more confident, happier adults in the future.
