The sad reality is that hosting a World Cup in South America has always been difficult: The 1930 WC was hosted by Uruguay in honor of their back to back wins at the 1924 and 1928 Olympics; 16 teams were supposed to participate, but only 13 were able to afford the traveling costs. In 1950 the exact same thing happened, with 3 teams withdrawing from the final tournament for the same reason as in 1930. The 1962 tournament in Chile was marred with violent incidents, including the infamous "battle of Santiago" game between Chile and Italy. The 1978 WC in Argentina, although was already confirmed by 1966, didn´t began preparation until about 2 years prior due to the political instability in the country and the military junta taking over in 1976, not to mention the mere idea of hosting a WC in a dictatorship. We didn´t get another WC in SA until 2014 in Brazil, which ran relatively smooth, and yet there were still massive protests against the goverment for spending so much money to host both the WC and the Olympics in 2016. As an argentine, I feel that if we can´t host the full tournament even between 3 nations, we shouldn´t host at all. And now neither Argentina, Uruguay or Paraguay will have proper preparation for the World Cup through the qualifiers, only to host a mere 3 games...
I mean, i remember since 2005 that they were trying to make that bid but it never worked, they didn't made any new staduim or big renovarions. Also, it was dumb to add Paraguay and Chile instead of Brasil. With some 5 or 6 stadiums in central-southern Brazil it would been much better. A Uruguay,-Argentina-Brazil would been amazing (1930 and 1950 anniversary and the three world champions from America together) Anyway, Chile should be thankful to be excluded and not spending 250 millions in a stadium just for one game...
@austinsandel same, either host the whole thing in arg, uru, and par or just have the opening game in uruguay. why is paraguay getting a game when they never even hosted the tournament? do they just get free qualification? what did they do to deserve that? fifa and conmebol are both getting so ricidulous with their decisions.
@@jagger7541 True there! The only one who has something to do here is Uruguay. The rest are just so random and litteraly have nothing to do in this 1 game opener. Honestly, Uruguay, Argentina & Brazil should have united to host it in 2030 since they are the 3 Non-European World Cup Champions in theses 100 years of celebration. Or I would have maybe done an entire World Cup in South America. The CONMEBOL federation is somewhat lucky here because they have only 10 Teams and they could have make like Euro 2020 where there was some countries that didn't qualify to the Euro but they still had some Euros matchs played at their homesoil.
They cant even organise copa america and they are having them in the states and we all saw what happened with their organisation even if it was in the US what a shame
What you are missing is that if it went to vote, they would have lost anyway, UAP wouldn’t even get the opening matches. MPS would have collected some 200 votes, UAP stood Zero chances. So they made a Smart move accepting the deal
Good move from CONMEBOL to secure the first 3 games to celebrate the 100th anniversary before the official start of 2030 world cup. Yes "officially" 2030 world cup is hosted only by Iberia + Morocco. Otherwise, the Fifa countries would had voted massively in favour of Morocco, Portugal & Spain for obvious reasons.
It is all about money man! You can blame CONMEBOL but when you think of it, all of this was a coup to have the World Cup return to Asia, most specifically in SAUDI ARABIA. Do you guys really think that was CONMEBOL play? I do hate the fact that CONMEBOL took the little crumbs but if they don't have the capacity and the infrastructures to compete against Morocco and infrastructure of Europe I mean they would have never got anything anyways. I would have liked just having Portugal, Spain & Morocco and that's it. I agree that Alejandro Dominguez took the easy way and probably he had some money on the process but for him, he did make qualify Argentina, Uruguay and specially Paraguay return to another World Cup (even tho it feels cheap). Also, you talk about respecting the history which I wanted Uruguay to host it so badly because it is the first World Cup Champion, the one who lead this beautifull event to what it is today and there was 2 bids: Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay vs Spain, Portugal & Morocco. Who is the one who choose actually the money instead of the history? To finish, it's incredible that the talk is going to CONMEBOL and we are here arguing about the expansion and how many co countries should do theses World Cups and how the Hell is SAUDI ARABIA able to host by THEMSELVES a whole World Cup with 48 Teams but United States which is like 5 times bigger than Saudi have to ask Mexico & Canada to join or Spain have to ask Morocco & Portugal to host it? And yet, here we are ranting at Dominguez & CONMEBOL. I respect your opinion and I understand your frustration which I share it too but I find you limit your research and your rant to the acolyte but not to the actual boss. CONMEBOL, Alejandro Dominguez, the 3 Presidents of Uruguay, Argentina & Paraguay, Morocco, Spain, Portugal (yes, they are to blame because even Dominguez said thanks to them also they were granted the 3 matches), the Qataris & The SAUDIS that are showing piles of money that Infantino saw and wants to take as much as possible. What is the common factor of all of theses guilty people? FIFA & INFANTINO! To give you another argument how Infantino loves Middle Eastern money, usually the Asian Cup use to be played in Est Asia and the in West Asia. Well we had AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2019, FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar, AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 and the next AFC Asian Cup will be where?? In Saudi Arabia... 3 AFC Asian Cup in a row in the middle Eastern with 2 World Cups as well and also being this the shortest period of time for a continent to have the World Cup with a 12 year of wait between Qatar 2022 and Saudi Arabia 2034 compared to South Africa 2010 to Morocco 2030 (20 years) and Argentina 1978 to Brazil 2014 (36 years). Anyways great talk with the great talk with Renk and great to hear your thoughts but maybe dive a bit deeper in what really is going on and you will see clearly that you are attacking and shaming probably one of the least responsible for all of this fiasco!
The minimum stadium requirements based on capacity for a world cup are 40,000 for any game, 60,000 to host a quarter or semi final, and 80,000 to host the opening game or final. It also expects at least half of them to already exist (although if you throw enough oil money at it they don't seem to care). That means realistically, you need at least 1 80,000+ seater stadium and 1 more 60,000+ seater stadium, although realistically 2 should be needed, and a total of 12-16 stadiums. The only country that could satisfy the 80 and 60k seater stadiums in South America is Peru (not even Brazil reaches that mark), with the Estadio Monumental being your 80,000 seater stadium and the Estadio Monumental de la UNSA being your 60,000 seater stadium. The Estadio Nacional (Lima) is 53,000 so they could probably find a way to expand that to 60,000. Peru has a total of 4 40,000+ seater stadiums (including the ones listed) and a further 4 over 30,000 seaters that could possibly be expanded. Assuming you're exlcuding Brazil, Argentina has 11 40k+ stadiums, with the only other 80k+ seater stadium. Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay all have 2 eligible stadiums, Ecuador has 3, Colombia has 4, Venezuela has 5, while Bolivia only has 1. Given the capacity of Peru's stadiums and the quantity of Argentina's, if any bid is going to go back to South America without Brazil, it would probably need to include both of those countries. A Chile and/or Bolivia to make it a contiguous bid would make the most sense. I have no idea about the quality of these stadiums and which needs renovating. That seems like a lot of countries, so I wouldn't be surprised if countries like Argentina and Uruguay needed to join Brazil to stand a chance at hosting. Obviously, if there were 4 countries on the ticket, each country could commit to building 1 new stadium which would add to the total numbers, but I don't see it happening
@Ali_Raza808 I'm not talking about the world cup in Saudi in fact I'm glad the world cup is in the middle east. My problem is that the 2030 world should be hosted in 1 country.
CONMEBOL can’t even host a Copa America and you want them to host a World Cup? Lol 😂nobody complained about Copa America in the USA but trip over this 😂😂😂 I swear we might as well just host everything in the USA because if not you people complain 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shit an emergency video? Just give them the 2038 World Cup. No way CONCACAF will want to host it that soon. You gotta pay to play in the end and CONMEBOL is so far behind in infrastructure compared to other countries. There’s a reason why they never get to host it that often! FIFA just gave them something to keep the happy so they can host a few matches. FIFA ain’t playing these huge matches in poorly maintained stadiums. Least CAF is trying to host another World Cup but they’re so far behind as well.
Brazil will host the Fifa's women's world cup in South America in 2027, so maybe not the men's tournament but they will be getting something after the 2014 men's world championship which was last hosted in Brazil.
As much as I would’ve loved to see the centenary tournament entirely in South America with Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, the reality is these countries do not have the infrastructure or financial needs to do so right now. 1. Uruguay is a smaller population with the capital being the only major city that can host any sort of games. 2. Argentina is in some economic hardships right now 3. Similar situation with Uruguay where only Asunción and maybe Ciudad del Este are big enough to host. I agree with the decision to have the opening match in Uruguay, and I also believe the semifinals and final should have been held there, but outside of that it is tougher to hold a World Cup there today. This wasn’t out of CONMEBOL’s President lacking cojones, this him making the wise decision to not make three South American countries permanent poverty states

Pretty debatable to call 1930 Uruguay the first "world" cup, considering the fact that there were like 6 teams in the tournament 😂 Just host it in 2034 man
There were 13 teams in the 1930 WC, same as in the 1950 WC in Brazil; both tournaments had teams withdraw because of traveling distances amongst other reasons, but that doesn't make them any less legitimate.

I can understand Uruguay being a host alone in South America since they hosted the tournament, screw Argentina and Paraguay who didn't have anything to do with the first world cup 100 years ago in 1930. It would been more respectable for the first half of the tournament to be played in Uruguay and the other half in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. South America being poor and broke only can host 3 games, so why bother give Argentina and Paraguay a free spot and hosting position? It doesn't make any damn sense to me when Uruguay is the only team which hosted in 1930. Fifa is corrupt and selling and pimping out to the South Americans in pathetic fashion when they are broke. If the tournament was hosted half in Uruguay and the other half in Spain, Portugal, Morocco that would be more respectable. I don't see any reason why Argentina and Paraguay play a role in what happened in 1930 at all other then the fact the tournament 100 years ago happened in South America. Argentina and Paraguay should be forced to go through World Cup qualifiers like the other national teams in South America. USA lost its moral high ground with Trump a racist and insurrectionist being elected and human rights argument so they can't criticize Saudi Arabia a human rights violator. Mexico and Canada are not at fault. I lost a lot of respect for Fifa for their lack of respect to the families of the Qatar builders who died in the 2022 building the stadiums mostly out of slave labor. I love it when Alfie starts moaning
Its a fantastic choice, it's going to be a great World Cup
why add argentina and paraguay when they did not held the 1930 wc?
Uruguay does not have the facilities to host the tournament alone.
