what memories - I used to live in Bexhill and would go to Eastbourne all the time - sometimes biking all the way - traffic was good in those days.

That was a very interesting talk with great photos. I used to run Debenham's Record & Tape Dept from 1973-77 and didn't know about the Arcade through the old Bobby store. Thanks Alan.

Just read this about TJHughes building. I agree it's a terrible and short sighted idea to demolish it. I'm going to petition the council to reconsider. Anyone interested in joining me?

My very first Saturday job while still at school was in Woolworths (1969), 26 shillings a week. What I wonder, when I see all this building work, was: Where were the builders living? There were no bulldozers etc, and no reinforced concrete, everything was bricks, laid by bricklayers! There must have been an army of them!

So interesting to watch your films on E/B's history. I've been doing this during this lockdown. Not sure 'evolution' is an apt word for the title of this film, more like 'development' (or deterioration). E/B has clearly known more elegant days! There were certainly more trees in the town centre than there are now. So sad about Sussex Gardens. I have often wondered about the houses above Boots. Now I know.......

Any one know where this talk was given? Is it the Curzon Cinema ?

The venue was the Under Ground Theatre, as it was then, below the Eastbourne Central Library. It is credited at the end of the video.
