All or Nothing

Written in my early 20's for an unrequited love who I felt like I had to distance myself from despite our long, deep friendship because it hurt too much. It was an extremely difficult thing to do and painful for both of us, and I will never know if it was the right thing to do because it ultimately hurt our friendship. Decisions made from despair or dark places are often not great.

But I’m down to my last try
Willing to risk it all
For a greater prize
I never thought of myself as a gambler
Yet here I am throwing the dice
Everything I cherish riding
On a desperate chance
All or nothing
King or pauper
My life is in your hands
My heart is yours
To cherish or toss aside
To hide away forever
Or to bask in the love inside
All that I am
I give to you
But it is all or nothing
Waiting for you to choose.
