Crazy that there weren't more deaths from broken necks and BSF. It's hard to imagine there was a time before the HANS device, especially in open wheel.

There were fatalities in this class, you just don't hear about them these days.

Very sadly there were and still are horrendous accidents, they just don't make it into the news. A guy last year in the historic class had an extremely bad accident. I won't go into details, but it was worse than Billy Monger's. I've known many others. It's one reason I stopped single seater racing - I'm also a very keen runner. I do miss driving the cars though - nothing compares.

Yeah, imagine that. Why it’s almost as if broken necks and BSF weren’t the scourge of all motor racing that they were made out to be. But once the HANS device was introduced, my God, every driver who bent a toe link against a barrier had had his very life SAVED by the HANS. Bollocks
