On November 11, 2023, a significant amount of law enforcement personnel responded to an incident at the La Crosse Regional Airport in Wisconsin. Allegedly, an Idaho man breached the airport gate, proceeded to drive down the runway, and gained unauthorized access to an aircraft occupied by crew members. Upon police arrival, the man refused to cooperate with commands and made several alarming threats. As he remained in the cockpit and powered the aircraft's systems, it was uncertain if the male had the necessary skills to take flight.

The trial of Cody Anderson concluded on 4/2/24.
Cody has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial for felony Attempt Armed Robbery with Threat of Force. Both the prosecution and defense agreed that Cody Anderson will be placed in a secure mental facility for five years. However, according to state law, he could potentially be confined for up to 12.5 years. The judge has set a hearing for May 10th to finalize this decision.

Just for any officer's knowledge. A jet like that cannot really backup via reverse thrust. It needs a pushback vehicle. The only aircraft I know of that has the ability to reverse out of a spot via reverse thrust is the MD-80, which is obviously more expensive and larger than this Learjet type aircraft. Good stuff disconnecting the battery amd preventing start-up. If he did start up, it would obviously be hazardous. But, I would say if that were the case, disengaging the engines is a valid choice and even standard ammunition can be very effective if well placed. So, if this ever in a rare blue moon were to happen. You'll know some knowledge.

Having flown private and chartered in the past, I have an appreciation for the costs involved with private aircraft. Considering the costs involved to inspect and make sure that the plane is airworthy again and that the flight controls and avionics were not damaged or by his actions, as well as any potential cosmetic damage to the interior, I can guarantee that that a $500,000 bond is extremely lenient.

Well, they had everything covered, no one was on the plane besides him, the only exit was covered, they had a armor car in front of the plane, they cut the main battery disabling the plane. it was safer to wait it out then going in gun blazing. No one wants to shoot a suspect and they try to deescalate it as much as possible. Keeping things calm prevents tension from rising which can cause mistakes.

I'll say it -- he's honestly a tiny bit endearing.
Like, nothing he did was really violent. Sure he made threats and had a knife, but he never really seemed serious and was only cornered when he did that. And then he talks about needing to take a shit for like 5 mins 🤣🤣 The fact he left a $100 bill for what he stole. The fact he made a decision to hijack a plane despite not even knowing how to fly it 😂😂 The fact he got arrested for DWI for doing burnouts in a cropfield. Idk obviously he has mental issues and I hope he gets the help he needs, but he sure seems like he would have a lot of interesting stories to tell and be a hoot to be around sometimes lol.
