Dad and I canoed from the beach in BML west to the far end of Utowana Lake in around 1973. I would have been 11. We camped there for the night. Although you could hear traffic on Rt 28 it was one of the scariest nights of my life. Something big was thrashing around in the creek for what seemed like forever . I was happy for sun up , breaking camp and paddling back. This really great video brought back those memories. Glad I’m on my couch tonight! Thanks ! Happy thanksgiving
Noticed a beaver hut on the pond we trapped many years ago. Brings back trapping memories from Feb./March '72. I remember one day it hit 59 degrees near the end of the beaver season at the end of March, but it was still very much winter. I was running an 8 horse Ski-do out of my green 1965 Oldsmobile station wagon, while wearing a pack basket, shirtless. Sun was shining so it didn't seem all that bad, but I still got a nice cold. Lots of work, but nothing like trapping beaver through the ice in late winter in the heart of the Adirondacks.
Thanks. Still trapping after all these years, but it has morphed into animal damage control. Fur prices are low, so there are fewer trappers, while beaver still multiply. They flood property, drown trees and plug culvert pipes on many highways. Trapping problem beaver is even more of a challenge. @@adkandbeyond
Ohh okay, that makes sense. I figure rapping seems to have become less popular. I seem to not hear as much about it anymore sadly. It was once such a big, lucrative business.
5 seconds in I'm getting goosebumps already
HAHA!!

Leave No Trace. Why burn the tuna package?
Fire was warm enough to melt the plastic. There will be no trace.
