Nice to see an update to this tent, Luke! I am amazed as to how your influence can change a companies direction on a product(s) and improve upon them!!! Ordinary individuals doing this would require many of us working together for them to listen to us. That is why your channel is so important (as well as others doing this), to not only direct the people to buy the right gear but also to keep companies accountable for the gear they make and to make improved gear. Again ty for what you do here and I know you know that everyone here appreciates what you and Susie do on this channel.
It’s good to see a company listen to their customers and use the feedback constructively, rather than just ignoring it. I like organisations that conduct themselves positively. Good one OneTigris
I said a few times, bring a tarp. It can be a fast leaky tent fix, or sun/living space addition. Best I suppose if near your vehicle, or if family or friend can carry it. You don't want to overburden yourself covering every contingency.
I don’t think I’ve ever gone camping without one. Very important thing to do. I’m a Scout leader and I tell parents this all the time. It’s bailed them out of some very wet situations. Nothing fixes a leaky tent better than throwing a tarp over it.
Hope all is well with you Luke and the family. Thank you for all you do. Also for the honest reviews. Very helpful. You saved me from buying the hiker, biker one person tent from Bass Pro. ❤🇨🇦
I don’t think the labeling is an issue. The majority of people that own a tent, own only one, or if more, various brands. If you have multiple One Tigris tents, use a magic marker on the bag.
I just finished the TransAmerican Trail on a KTM690, I bought this tent off your earlier video. It was absolutely awesome! Ton of room for my moto gear, set up was fast and easy, and it packs away fast easy and minimal size. This is the best tent hands down for anyone doing motorcycle camping!
I just purchased a Tetra 160 in the Coyote Brown ! 🙂 Had liked it from the off and now Gen.II made me take the plunge. I bought direct, signed-up for account initially (10% Discount Code), for just under $144 Delivered to UK. You cannot really argue with that.. Cannot wait to receive it ! 😁
Inward folding flaps on the door that can velcro seal to the center would increase the awning area, and could be used also for sun, wind and rain protection from the sides too. Because of the tent and door geometry, they would be a perfect fit with minimal hassle.
Imagine Luke secretly building Outdoor Company and then coming out with different types of TOGR tents, tarps and outdoor equipments :D I would buy them all!
Well done, Luke. Another example of how you & your channel are increasingly influential with companies & youtube watchers of your videos. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
I own the 1tigris outback retreat and love it but it takes an awfully long time to get it setup looking nice with all 14 tent pegs and 6poles lol ! Now this tetra on the other hand wow 4 pegs & 1 pole ! I’m done ! 🍺 🍺 🍻
Good job OT! Looking at the reviews on this channel, there are few products that I might purchase one day. An add on might add functionally to the door. A triangle shaped fabric that could be attached, making it enclosed space. There are few ways to do so and it should be an extra purchase, but for me it would make sense.
I've become to trust 1 Tigres for many many purchases now mainly because of your reviews and how they've responded to you it's been wonderful I've yet to have a major issue. I would like to see this tent in a six-man with wood stove configuration I think that would be a nice option.
They could add fabric to connect the sides of the front door and put toggles to hold it back if no rain is forecast. I'd also like for there to be mid-wall vents added to allow better air flow.
Yes I totally agree with the vents, they need vents on the side like you said, it doesn't happen much but I do get quite a bit of condensation when there's a ton of moisture, it could be I don't always set it up the best way possible, but those vents would help a lot because most of the condensation are on the walls that don't have vents. +1 this would help tremendously.
@@swim1-who-isnt-me That's not to say the things Luke mentioned aren't important. They're very important, but as is that tent seems like it would be stifling hot and muggy inside. It might be possible to open the door part way up on both sides and maybe stake the corners down away from the body so it would provide airflow without letting in to much rain.
I'm picturing the door being a double layer, and on the inside (ie, underneath when the door is raised as a porch), a middle zipper that lets you unfold two more triangles to stake out on the sides. Or even just two free panels you can pack and attach to the edge of the "porch" for simplicity's sake (but at that point just bring your own extra tarp lol)
My heart dropped because I literally just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it looks like i've got the GEN 2 so thankfully I won't need to return it for a swap.
Thank you for your efforts on behalf of us consumers. I LIKE a pyramid tent in windy conditions. Improvements depend on engineering I do not understand. In my view, the raised panel needs to begin higher on the tent to allow for more coverage as the panel is tapered out. Now, I believe there is a vent that would need to be moved for this change. I imagine that product planners search for the 'holy grail' of the pyramid tent with shelter a panel in front.
One more tie out rear center would be great. Tent still droops down on you. And maybe gen 3 will include a zipper on the lower rear vent. I have the coyote brown gen 2 - 160. 😊
Recently purchased the 160 and first time I paced it up the storage bag ripped open when I was tightening the top. The fabric ripped out along the stitching. Sure Joe the tent doesn’t rip that easily if I ever need to snug the guy lines. Also, the two rear corners are saggy and I can’t get a good line on the two rear corners.😊
The links seem to go to Amazon listings of the OLD model ONLY. But that's awesome that the new model Tetra tents have added guy-out points for improved stability in the wind. :D
Hey Luke, great channel, in regards to the pull tabs on the stakes, they were tied by an automatic machine. Yes they need to address the tensioning because it looks like quality control is non existant. Elimination of another step to save the company money. Whenever I get new stakes I tighten them by hand right off to prevent what happened to you.
Good job OneTigris, It's good to see a company listening, that shows they do care about their products, what they need to realize is how many people are tired cheap stuff especially here in the U.S. So if they keep on listening and make quality stuff done the right way more people would probably buy from them. Keep up the great reviews Luke can't wait for your next camp out. S&H
If I wanted an open vestibule in foul weather, I would leave the side facing towards the wind shut and prop open the other side. I do not know how far the open side can be raised with the other side shut, but that is a pretty cheap fix to have an open vestibule during inclement weather.
There's only 2 ways I can see that would increase the protection you could get from that triangular door flap when in use as a weather/sun shade. 1) have zip in panels that connect to the zippers used for the door, one for each side. 2) make the door with more fabric, but put it in a zone in the middle, sealed with a zipper/or Velcro that compressed that area when closed, but unzipped, had that extra fabric increase the flap when fully unzipped. In my eyes, it just would be easier and cheaper just to carry an extra 6' x 6' tarp to add for top cover. Tie it off on the side guide line points and secure to the ground. Otherwise, they did an fantastic update to the Tetra Tent.
An easier fix is to just unzip the one side and leave the side facing the wind zipped up. You won't be able to raise the open side to its full height, but you should have a nice open vestibule to use during inclement weather.
or extra additions for the zipper sides and also the front bottom to open it up a bit more and make a semi enclosed open area not sure if i explained my thoughts well enough
I bought the Tetra 160 version 1 back in June. I had to get it from the company directly because Amazon was out. The cords on my stakes are the same as the tent cords. OT must have changed this in later tents. I did notice the bug netting does not connect to the top, allowing for a 1 1/2-inch gap for bugs to enter. I had the tent out all night and only 2 or 3 tiny moths made it in so not a deal breaker for me. I was wondering if, on the old version you could use tarp clamps to secure the back side of the tent or could the clamps damage the material.
Is there a rain test for this tent? i have looked and not been able to find it. maybe i am looking in the wrong place. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
I am capable of tying a knot, and always check gear before I use it for the first time so while I am not immune to accidents, this one would be very unlikely to get me. (especially as I remove those strings anyway. The canopy? Well, it's pyramid, the front is going to be that shape. The only options are built in sides which can be rolled inwards (and add weight) when not in use or bring a small tarp. Personally the tarp option suits me better, I can bring it or leave it at home, depending on the predicted weather. And if I predict wrong then I angle the canopy towards the wind and sit further back.
I don't know the correct words, but the version 2.0 has those "hooks" at the bottom that allows you to stretch out the sides. Those hooks are not shown on the version 1.0. If remember correctly that was an issue during your previous review. You didn't mention those add-ons in this episode. Or have I missed something?
What about your complaint of not being able to close off the 3D vent in the back? Figures they make this change after I buy the thing....I guess I'm reduced to a pebble for a guy line.
P.S. I also think the tent stakes are to blame for the injuries, as well as the cordage. I noticed when you were showing a close-up of the stake that there are some very square edges on the head of the stake where the cordage hole is drilled. If they round those off I think that would make them safer to handle. The cordage should be upgraded but someone could still slip their hand off the cordage even if it does not come untied in rainy/snowy weather and effectively incur the same injury.
I mean considering it was already a successful product, the fact the company decided to do anything is worthy of applause given the dystopian state that is modern day companies and manufacturers.
They could have realized he was right, and that if somebody took the thing beach camping, and set it up with the wind hitting the back side? It was structurally unsound.
Make the awning a square shaped awning and bigger for the front and sides more protection then that’s what I do for my medieval tent which is the same configuration as this almost.
I was looking at the images in their web page and non of them seem to have the new extra guy line points even the ones with the new colors. This seems weird also nowhere it says their are gen 2, I want to get one but that is keeping me off.
"Oh no! I have so much OneTigris gear that, because they don't label it, I don't know what gear is what." That sounds like a you problem. Most of us don't have so much gear that we can muddle it up. 🙂
Does that tent suit windy conditions considering its shape compared to those closer to the ground and in rectangular shape ? Also what's the point (pun intended) with the pyramidal shape ? Isn't it a waste of space ?
The pyramid shape is good for fast pitching. Stake out the corners and stick up a pole and you're done. It is a bit of a novelty, though. It doesn't shave much time off the pitch compared to many other designs, there's no weight savings at all, and you have to give up usable space. If all you were going to do was sleep in it, it's probably okay, but there's nothing to recommend it over numerous other more practical designs unless you just want to be different. Personally, I think One Tigris is one of those companies that designs products to have good curb appeal, while practicality and functionality are secondary concerns. Unfortunately, there's no shortage of impulse buyers and inexperienced backpackers/campers who buy stuff like this on sight because it looks good.
I don't understand why anyone would want a tent that allows any creepy-crawley thing to come, unobstructed, into the set-up tent. If the tent doesn't have a floor, I won't even consider it. Am I crazy? Or what?
The larger version of that tent is an actual tent. It has a bathtub style floor and insect screen. The tent stops just short of where the center pole stands. It is a two person tent with a very large vestibule. I am 5'11", and I can almost stand up in the tent. The small version of the tent is just like a tarp.
If only there were zip in sides to make the awning even more comfortable? It would be easy to make zip in triangle sides that could be taken camping or not.
Door walls will add more weight... but how much more weight can they add before people start complaining about weight? It could be side panels you add via velcro and loops for the pole, making it an optional accessory to carry on
Point taken I have 4 tigress products maybe five. other than size I can’t tell them apart they could do better. There are tons of different styles of knots. That will not come undone. All they have to do is have knot a policy.
I swore I wouldn't be buying any more tents but ............. can you actually have too many ? This is only marginally heavier than my coffin-like 2 man tent and soooo much space and headroom !
I'm hardly an engineer, but it seems that the design itself limits the size and shape of the awning. The only way I could see to improve that would be to have fold-in flaps on each side that could be velcroed together when the awning is taken down and the tent closed up, but could be separated and guy'd out to form pitched sides when the awning is set up. That way, as long as the wind isn't too bad, you could actually use it as a place to sit in your camping chair if it's raining.
Probably my 3rd favorite 1. 10x10 aquaquest tarp 2. Lanshan 2 pro 3. One tigress But I consider myself a budget guy I never ventured into the cube fiber or dynema product lines. I can buy a lot of gear for 700$ and being a gram weenie isn't my thing
I’m deciding between Lanshan 2 Pro and this tent. It will be windy conditions. If you had to choose one of these tents what would it be? Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks.
The large is now $292, not $180, so they're obviously trying to cash in on your up to date review. (Going from your link) their own website have them at the price you quote.

A permanent Sharpie will do the job, do it once and you are done. Labeling is not a big issue for me.
I agree, 100%. Clearly he does not represent a majority of campers.
Agree, A very small percentage of viewers would be affected by the labeling issue.

I have the gen 1, anything they do to improve on it is just gravy for the price. Thanks to Luke for pushing.
Good to know about the tent stakes. I will just bring leather gloves-I will use them for other camp chores anyway.
What telescoping poles are you using to set up the awning for this tent?
I will have to wait for the newer model when they make changes on the awning.
Did this 2nd generation get the bottom air vent "control over" closure fixed? I didn't hear you mention it like you did in your older video of Gen 1.

@TheOutdoorGearReview Link on Amazon is for new, improved version?
Love your reviews!! 👍 what’s your opinion on a quick comfortable on one night stay tents (overlanding). This tent vs the nature hike canyon 2person?
Big mesh on the awning would be great. Probably too expensive for the company, but would be a great idea.
This is a fine idea...supposing you intended to say 'bug' mesh. Your 'wish' works fine in good weather!
5:24, I'll only buy when they fixed the problem in Gen 3.
Is there a rain test for this tent? i have looked and not been able to find it. maybe i am looking in the wrong place. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
I'm sure others complained about this issue too.
Ang galing
Love your videos, why do you not build your own tent?
I check all new tent stakes
deburr & re-tie cords
sometimes the cord holes are SHARP!
Great video been waiting for this update but I can't find anything on there website that relates to gen2
Buy a sharpie label the stuff sack……pull the knots tight and use a lighter to melt the cord a little to keep it in shape and it won’t come undone
You can do all of that-but the point is, you shouldn’t have to.
I am capable of tying a knot, and always check gear before I use it for the first time so while I am not immune to accidents, this one would be very unlikely to get me. (especially as I remove those strings anyway.

If only there were zip in sides to make the awning even more comfortable? It would be easy to make zip in triangle sides that could be taken camping or not.
It's nice to see them address the issues but the tent stakes causing injuries should have taken top priority.
Door walls will add more weight... but how much more weight can they add before people start complaining about weight? It could be side panels you add via velcro and loops for the pole, making it an optional accessory to carry on

Moral of this story: if TOGR identifies a problem then don't go out and buy the tent like I did. Wait for a 2nd generation fix.
Maybe the company will fix the stakes and offer them separately and hopefully give a discount or free to current tent owners.
Probably my 3rd favorite
1. 10x10 aquaquest tarp
2. Lanshan 2 pro
3. One tigress
But I consider myself a budget guy I never ventured into the cube fiber or dynema product lines.
I can buy a lot of gear for 700$ and being a gram weenie isn't my thing
Oops (cuben fiber )
I’m deciding between Lanshan 2 Pro and this tent. It will be windy conditions. If you had to choose one of these tents what would it be? Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks.
The large is now $292, not $180, so they're obviously trying to cash in on your up to date review. (Going from your link) their own website have them at the price you quote.
Always bring a tarp n duct tape......always 😂
I love the revisions, especially the color. I would've never bought that grey.
A good fix for the tent stake pull knot is a good dip in gorilla wood glue
