    I haven't smelled the smell of soldering in years. But as soon there was smoke shown in the video it hit my brain with that lovely smell of my childhood.

    Absolutely correct. The flux and heat allow for solder to wick up the legs of the components.

    do you clip the legs of the components before sending it through the machine? I was very surprised to see no long leads on the bottom of the board at the end of the video

    • @electrosoftincpa
      @electrosoftincpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we send them through a machine that clips the leads.

    chips on the underside of the board would be after-solder.

    how much pre heat temp you are maintaining and also bath temp?

    I have absolutely no idea how wave soldering works. But would I be correct to guess that The first white foamy liquid it passes through is flux, then it goes into an oven, then passes through molten solder?

    how often do you clean your solder bath to remove solder dross?

    • @electrosoftincpa
      @electrosoftincpa  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Adam Joseph Mariñas We clean the solder bath after every use. Additionally, after every 6 months, we take a Coke can and cut it down, dip it down into the molten solder, then let hit harden. Once hard, we peel the can off and send the hardened sample out for analyzing.

    How is it controlled so well that a solder millimeters can be done without the whole board being splashed by molten solder?

    • @sapincher
      @sapincher 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is, but solder only sticks to, or "wets" certain things. It hits the board, but doesn't stick to it so it just falls off.

    • @electrosoftincpa
      @electrosoftincpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the chemical reaction with the flux, heat, and rate at which the solder is flowing in a wave. The legs graze the solder and it wicks up the lead, through the hole. It is a clean process.

    • @reddster6285
      @reddster6285 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also because they apply a coating of "solder mask" during manufacturing that prevents solder to sticking to the pcb anywhere that is covered in the stuff www.tempoautomation.com/blog/understanding-soldering-part-5-solder-mask-application-process/

    Sorry to be a bit thick, but I followed your explanation of this wave solder process and didn't fully understand it so I just watched another video of it on youtube. It would appear that if the legs of the ICs are to be soldered then the board would have to be upside down and the whole chip submerged in solder. Surely that's not right. What did I miss here?

    • @electrosoftincpa
      @electrosoftincpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The IC sits on top of the board. The legs are through the holes. The legs drag across the flux and the wave of solder. The board is between all of the action. The IC is safe.

    how component be fitted exactly during process?

    • @electrosoftincpa
      @electrosoftincpa  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Neel Jayswal so sorry we are just seeing this. There was no notification. To answer your question, components are checked before they are sent through the wave. The board is slowly drawn through and the parts do not move.

  • @jamesdoyle3885

    How do you set it so it solders the correct parts?

    • @electrosoftincpa
      @electrosoftincpa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We can raise and lower the board to only coat the legs of the components.

    This may seem unrelated, but does anyone know if NASA build's their own pcbs and has their own wave soldering machines or if they send it to third party companies like this one?

    • @climberbob1
      @climberbob1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smoooth. I'm pretty sure NASA doesn't make anything. They're a government CUSTOMER to aerospace companies, which, I'd have to say the majority of even them don't build their own PCBs, they subcontract out to companies that specialize in the fab of PCBs, others that specialize in assembly, etc. Depending on factors which also may include security issues. Now they may do some IR&D with some small fab there, but I'm pretty sure they don't manufacture anything, they contract out.

    The reflow soldering process is a little bit different than wave soldering, but it’s the most common way to attach surface mount components to a circuit board.Details pls see my blog makerfab.blogspot.com/2018/12/why-use-reflow-soldering-in-pcb-assembly.html

      @@hectorvalle2443 We are a custom manufacturer - low volume/high variation. Rejections are built-in to the process. Six sigma makes sense in organizations that have high volume/low variation.
