I’m 24. Got married 2 months ago. We’re buying an old house on 15 acres and can’t wait to get started! So much work to do (after and outside of the 9-5) Pigs chicken cattle sheep all on my mind
Don’t forget to get some fruit trees in the ground. I wish I could of got all my stuff planted when I was 24. I would be harvesting truckloads at this point 😂.
@@rangerismine yup still trying to figure out where to put stuff, starting with fencing in a backyard for the dog, then a 4 acre pasture, then I have a 1 acre pasture I’d like to fence too
I wish I was interested in the farm life when I was 20. I discovered Joel when I was 50 now 56 and I want to live the life! Now I have a large garden , save seed have rabbits and layer chickens. Next venture broilers and I live in a neighborhood on a half acre in Florida. Want to start a homestead when I pay off debt and move to rural land a bit up north.
Not a farmer, but I have seen this seedbank idea in action. I logged twenty acres of my property, and was amazed to see grasses 4' tall sprout from the former forest. A lot of others things sprouted too, but lots of grass.
Not saying this can’t be true sometimes, but I’ve seen stilt grass and garlic mustard absolutely dominate a landscape in just a couple years after being trodden by heavy equipment. The seed banks are in the crevices of the skidder and dozer.
can you just rotate pigs on land everyday without feed? im cautious of getting pigs because 1, i dont eat pork and 2 the feed bill. if i could just rotate them in the forest for their own feed and sell them that could be a good option.
Depends on the breed and the available forage. If you invest in breeds that root less and graze more, and plant some grains and tubers/root crops and brassicas in with the grasses you can definitely minimize your feed inputs.

Too much livestock you're doomed
We’ve been on our 10 acres for months now and just trying to get the house done has consumed all of our time. Hoping to start chickens by spring.

Turn degraded land and desert into silvopasture and ecological agroforestry AKA food forests. Once established lasts for 150 yrs +
Mark Shepard.
How did you clear the stumps?
Stump grinder does wonders- or just cut it flat to the ground if on a hillside ( so roote hold the ground firm still)
Pigs grind stumps down for bugs once they get soft enough
🙌
So basically cut down the trees
Silvopasture should be about adding trees to pasture not turning forests into pasture.
If you tell the same lie long enough it becomes the truth.
?
Lmao. If it didn't work he'd be out of business
Okay bot
