Housing Associations and Council Houses have to have carbon monoxide and fire alarm detectors fitted by law, and checked every year in their tenants houses. Why isn't this the same for care homes?
Thought that was a fair outline given by Heather Dixey, it is only right that a detailed investigation is undertaken. However, we should not allow this to be ignored as there are so many questions, if there were no carbon monoxide meters, if there was no routine maintenance, if there was neglect then charges should be brought. All lives matter irrespective of age.
@@muckymedway3309 You are entirely right, it is not mandatory for CO detectors to be installed. Shocking really and perhaps reflects on how we care for the elderly.
I know a number of migrant nursing home caretakers and staff. I know them because the place where I worked held storage containers, and once a month they would fill a couple of 40ft containers with all the lovely things which were supplied to keep their care home residents in some semblance of comfort : from beds, to meds, to chairs to monitors and other devices. I'm hoping the same cannot be said of this care home. They ship from Cardiff docks, in case you were wondering. They have a connection there who ships out to Africa regularly. You haven't lived until you've seen 5 migrant workers fill a forty foot container with a tractor, a jeep, 10 engines cut from god knows what, and a neverending supply of stolen bikes.
One of those who shipped regularly was arrested and sentenced for modern slavery, as the lads he was allegedly "tutoring" in the college he worked, he was also exploiting as a cheap workforce. Another lady, Veronica, worked a care home and also ran her own "charity" shop in Cardiff. She too has since lost her job because of stealing from residents. Her best selling lines were lamps, lampshades, alarm clocks, teas maids, suitcases and jewellery. Probably just a coincidence that her stock mirrored the items favoured by the over 60s. There's more to them choosing certain sectors to work in rather than simply caring about people.
Why do the people making these public announcements always get the word " COMMUNITY " into their statements ? They are almost like parrots, and you wonder if they are told to use this word so often.

I worked in care for 45 years . Whilst we had regular fire safety drills I have no recollection of any mention of carbon monoxide detectors . Our hoists and lifts were regularly inspected but I truly don't recall anything about CM detectors
Unbelievable!!.... as Carbon Monoxide CO2 sensors are fitted into most modern premises with an particularly rigorous legally obliged regime in place for most social and council tenants, indeed so rigorous is this strict regime that you'll find as an social or council tenant that those same Police officers may be at your door to force an unwarranted entry for landlord inspection should you fail or otherwise refuse an annual Gas Safety check...The annual Gas safety check includes amongst others testing of the CO2 sensor smoke alarms and boiler maintenance...Sorry i cannot accept that an property an Care Home no different to an council or social tenancy every bit as legally obliged to have this strict regime in place and no different to the aforementioned others could have possibly allowed for the escape of CO2 into the atmosphere of the premise...It is just too basic and fundamental for this to have ever been overseen or perhaps even neglected..
It's about all the can say - yet. There's a whole list of things they have to find out: Were the heating appliances and systems properly, competantly and regularly serviced by qualified people? Was there an undetected fault that had arisen since the last proper inspection and servicing of those appliances and systems and if so was that before the expected date for the next due servicing? Were carbon monoxide alarms present, were they properly installed as per Building Regulations Document J and were they functioning and in date?
At this satge it is not known the source of the CO, it appears to be CO from the statement. Personally I thought that was a refreshingly competent statement given what can be stated at present. I say this having carried out dozens of CO incidents.
That’s a bit unfair. Young people nowadays don’t want to live with their parents. They want the freedom to come and go as they please, without the parental restraints. We live in a different world now.
Many "kids" are still living at home with their parents well into their 20s , because they can't afford to rent or buy with the ever rising housing costs.
Absolute rubbish . My 18 year old son, whom we adore and he adores us has just left home to take up residence at University. He is having a ball being with other kids. We did not kick him out, in fact his Mother pleaded for her baby to stay home. Thanks to an amazing Father he is now a super confident clever young man. Fathers for Sons.
In this day an age? For a £20 Carbon Monoxide detector? ??????
Less than that. I got one for £7.00.

and its a care home so it should be required legally and a smoke alarm
Think it was something more sinister than that because a person was immediately arrested...
À nursing home with no carbon monoxide detectors!!!
Willful negligence?
Is it law to have them?
If it is carbon poisoning ....where were the alarms???????

ok so where was the monoxide detector that is mandatory for care homes
Culpable homicide by neglect if there were no working CO detectors.
No CQC inspection to pick up major failings?

No .Because poor helpless people died .
