My boy is just 11.5 years and as a baseball dad from China, I give my best to understand your concept. Thank you so much for your generous sharing.

My sons 8, we’ve been working on HLP for about 11 months, and just a few weeks ago he started to really nail “on and around”.
The key was telling him to pull his front shoulder down in his load, and don’t let it come up until snap. This naturally keeps him on his butt and doesn’t let him overturn (disconnecting from the hips). It tremendously killed the up swing and roll overs.
Thank y’all so much for your help!

So my son is also 8. I started working on HLP right at the beginning of his season and it was rough. So I chose to stop until we could fully dive in during the winter. If you dont mind me asking, how did you approach training your son at his age? Risking sounding dumb but did you simply watch videos and go after the drills or did you yourself have previous experience with it. Because this is a lot of "feeling" driven... so how did you teach him what/how to feel?

I played quite a bit of baseball myself and loved it as a kid, but knew that I always had bad habits of falling to my front leg throughout my playing days. It felt like that habit was impossible to break once I developed it as a kid.
So knowing that, I grabbed a bat, and along side with my son we’ve both patiently been learning together. We both take turns during our training allowing him to see me work through it too. I bat lefty(not normal for me), so that I can feel what it’s like to learn something fresh on my non dominant side.
I don’t teach him anything, or do drills, that I haven’t tried and understand myself.
He enjoys it because he sees me struggle and coaches me as well, based on what he’s learning and where I make a mistake.
It’s a tough process but through lots of patient reps, he will develop some amazing skills that will become easier and easier to apply as he grows older and stronger.

Disclaimer, expect parents/coaches/players to question what your son is doing. Once he starts to get better at it, they’ll all be quiet and just let him do his thing.

@@brandonrager8919 this is literally the answer I needed to hear. Thanks for walking it out. We started together and I found it hard to instruct but totally believe it’s one of the best hitting methods. I played in college and am a former strength coach. So instructing him without doing it myself is def the problem. I def feel the pushback already in just the little bit we stepped into it before. Seriously thank you

Heck yeah! HLP is a progression for sure. I have found that my mind will miss key details from HLP instruction and I won’t pay attention to them until they’re relevant to the stage we are in our learning. Then it makes total sense and we start applying it to training. I’m constantly revisiting the clips online and catching new tips that I missed. It’s starting to come together really well after a year. Hang in there man!

My son has been working on this swing for about a month and a half. He didn’t play the entire summer because of an injury. He discovered this swing from your TH-cam channel. And felt it making a huge difference in the power when he hits the ball. Well, he started playing again for his school. He made the varsity team his freshman year and now he’s sophomore playing winter Legion. His coach put him at the first batter and he’s been striking out a few time’s, His timing has been off and he’s been popping up balls in the air. He then was dropped to 7 batter. Well today, his coach went off at him for about 45 minutes yelling at him at practice because of the way he’s swinging and that he doesn’t believe in the way Aaron Judge hits the ball. He kept yelling at him to keep swinging knob to the ball. Other players have noticed my son hitting solid line drives in the cage and can’t figure out how he’s hitting it so hard. This coach has been coaching for over 40 years at a private school in Honolulu, Hawaii and is well-known by the community. It pisses me off when coaches say there’s only one way to hit and not open to any other way, he then came home, very disappointed and told me that I just need to hit the way. The coach tells me to hit.

I’ve watched some of your previous vids but this one really hammered home HOW it’s not weight on that rear leg… lately I had been having trouble with the stretch and fire but this video helped a lot!

@ yessir, btw I would like to give you credit in helping me understand key aspects of the HLP swing. It’s been a great help. Hopefully both of my kids continue to love the game and we get to work with you in the future!

Knowing the rear leg and hitting both your pivots in one move is critical to keep from swinging up. Too many two move swingers out there that get out of their back leg and blame the hand pivot.
