- KCRA-TV reporters Roy Walkenhorst and Bill Harvey take us back to Sacramento in 1969 to see how things are progressing with the redevelopment of Old Sacramento. We also see the newly reconstructed K Street Mall, now for pedestrians only! This film is full of amazing images of our city as it once was.
This and hundreds of other historic films can be found in their original condition at: archive.org/de...
Love to all Sacramentans from a native living and working in Germany.
Just another native here, enjoying vintage imagery of a beautiful and vastly underrated major city.
So cool to see what Sacramento looked like two years before our family moved there from the San Fernando Valley in 1971. I finished high school in Sac and went on to CSUS where Roy Walkenhorst taught my broadcast journalism class. My brothers and I hung out in Old Sac a lot too. One night, we snuck into the old Abner Hotel building and got down into the basement, below the street level. Found lots of broken Chinese pottery in the dirt. I believe it's all been filled in since then. I'm on the East Coast now, but I'll always have a place in my heart for 'River City".
Who here used to cruise L and J streets in the old days? I'm still here!
Its conceivable that a 3-year old Me saw this on KCRA back in 1969, and little did I know at 3:18 I could see the window of my office in the Ransohoff bldg. in 2001.
I remember my mom going to Montgomery wards and Joe and Sons right on the corner of 6th and k street. Us kids used to jump in the fountains in the summer time .😆
Nice clothing shops old sac mall💕😁💅😎☀️🎉
All incarnations of the K Street mall have been failures. Still a haven for vagrants, criminals and other miscreants, nothing really changes in the 53 years of civic mismanagement. Attractive shooping has but all disappeared from Sacramento County where the Galleria in Roseville is the only option left. The Old Florin Center is now an uncomfortable Walmart experience and Arden Fair is on the decline experiencing violent crime and store closings. The other malls had a demise long ago.
I was 14 when this was completed in 1970 I believe.......a disaster! they took K street traffic out ......not as popular as they thought it would be .....all the cruisers on Friday-Saturday night had to resort to L & J streets ....Ha!
Why is the music in stereo? Just a mishmash of whatever local stock you can find to fill the gaps?
