Eine wunderbare, unvergessliche Stimme - vielen Dank für die Veröffentlichung
Da schließe ich mich gerne an.....
The original song was in Yiddish, written by Sholom Secunda, and pronounced "Bei mir bist du shayn", meaning "I like you" or "you're great". Leander sings a Swedish translation of the verses, but the one-line refrain has been turned into German: "Bei mir bist du schön" - not a known phrase in standard German, though it's understandable. Presumably the song was Germanised to erase its Yiddish/Jewish origin and because "schön" rhymes with some Swedish words in the verses (e.g. bön).

somebody asked about her very precise pronunciation, especially the r. she was trained in the classical theatre and cabaret tradition in sweden where it vas very important to deliver a text with the right r- and sch-sounds.Before germany she sung in the legendary Karl Gerhard-cabarets. His texts were very sharp, witty and intellectual and had to be understood by the public. They also were political and so anti-nazi that he got into trouble with the german embassy in stockholm.
Уникальная женщина и певица и как всегда с трагической судьбой.Моя одна из любимых певиц на все времена.

During 1938, several recordings of 'Bei mir bist du schön' were released in Germany (including the famous one with the Andrews Sisters). I uploaded a recording by Russ Morgan, released in 1938 on German Brunswick. Only later, the song was banned.

ZARAH LEANDER💞💟💕🎵🎵
Wunderbar!
@LittleImpaler Yiddish has adopted many words from those languages (most Hebrew/Aramaic, less Slawic, little others) , but its base is medievial southwestern German. The Grammar and most of the "simple" words clearly show these roots and that's why it's a Germanic language.
thank you
beautiful
Wenn man das öfter gehört hat, gefällt es..
Als ich es das erste mal gehört, hat es mir nicht gefallen!
Aber jetzt höre ich es sehr gerne...
many thanks!!! :-)
Amazing to hear a Yiddish song sung in German especially at the time
Yes it was, When Joseph Goebbels heard it, archly he is said to have remarked to Zarah isn't Sarah a Jewish name, upon hearing this Miss Leander is said to have replied Yes it Is , and isn't Joseph one to.
It is sung in swedish!
Nina Hagen's "Zarah" led me here. Love it!
Ovo je prava zenska lepota, njezna i zenstvena, nenosi Farmerke da joj se ocrtava prednji dio tela.!!!
she was wonderful
Es wird einmal ein Wunder geschehn.
Zarah Leander was one of the most beautiful actresses that has ever lived Joseph Goebbels I'll have to give it to him had Great taste in retaining Zara for the German film industry
most people think she is german..but is not true..she is swedish born...only did learn german to speak.
@jarabaa In German dialects or sociolects usually are not written down. A German jew would write "schön" but still they would pronounce it more like scheyn. Yiddish is closer to German than most rural dialects or e.g. low saxon. Of course you can also try to transcribe your dialect in a phonetic way. It is also fairly normal that a dialect/language totally shifts meaning when translated into a standardized scripture.
Fine Song Zarah Much Aloha from Hawaii
Brain needed this one again: Thanks.
SUPA DOPE BROTHERS
GRAZIE!
Självklart! Tack.
Wonderful..I feel like daning
Evocative...hervorrufend, sentimental und gleichzeitig fröhlich. Uebrigens kann man ein CD-Set kaufen, das dieses Lied u.v.a. enthält. Nicht teuer, schauen Sie in eBay.
@muryb71 dont be a muppet man, look it up!! the song was written by shalom secunda and jacob jacobs in 1932 for a yiddish non hit musical for which the writers were paid $30 between them by the decca record company and translated it for the andrews sisters who made it a hit. would you like to know some more?
grazie!
Najlepsze wykonanie tej piosenki przez Zarah
Amen.
Bei mir bist do schon, please let me explain
Bei mir bist do schon means you're grand
Bei mir bist do schon, again I'll explain
It means you're the fairest in the land
I could say "Bella, bella", even "sehr wunderbar"
Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are
I've tried to explain, bei mir bist do schon
So kiss me and say you understand
Bei mir bist do schon, you've heard it all before
but let me try to explain
Bei mir bist do schon means that you're grand
Bei mir bist do schon, it's such an old refrain
and yet I should explain
It means I am begging for your hand
I could say "Bella, bella", even "sehr wunderbar"
Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are
I could say "Bella, bella", even "sehr wunderbar"
Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are
I've tried to explain, bei mir bist do schon
So kiss me and say that you will understand
Can You Please Tell Me what Language She Is Singing? Is It Yiddish? Thank You.

WUNDERBAR!
J'aime également cette version plus jazzy que la chanson originale en yddish, plus lente et plus triste. cette version est arrangée et plus dansante.

Превосходно !

Zarah Bei mir bist Du so schoen Aloha from Hawaii
@jarabaa Guess what, Yiddish is a middle age German dialect with a few Hebrew elements, was spoken by Ashkenazi jews throughout Eastern Europe, sometimes written in Hebrew letters.
Det är rätt så kul att låten inte är allra populärast i sverige utan i Tyskland och Ryssland när dom till och med sjunger på svenska :).
