Viktus did an interview with Dan Wheeler about 3 weeks ago, telling his story, walking him around Brighton and pointing out where they filmed various Ren videos and where they "borrowed" all the foliage to make the indoor jungle in Animal Flow. This track was previewed at the end of the interview

As to all his references, I'm pretty sure Ren's brain is actually made of a sponge-like material that has absorbed everything he has ever read or seen. Ren said that he started making DnB beats when he was 12 years old, burn them to CD and sell them on the street so he's been at this for over 20 years.

What I've found really interesting about reactions to this tune, & Ren's other dance music tracks, is American rappers commenting that they could never spit over a beat like that. As an EDM fan I'm sure you're aware of the long history of MCs spitting over dance beats in the UK & other parts of Europe. UK grime evolved from Garage TOWARDS something closer to US hip hop, not from hip hop. As an old raver from the 90s, dance music is inextricably linked to MCs getting the party going, & this tune takes me back in the very best way.
