I got a Tortum and a golden crocodile 🐊 both in self watering pots from Walmart. They were both on my wishlist.

I lost my beautiful large Tortum when we had unseasonably cold weather in the south a month or so ago. Lost about 25 philodendrons when my greenhouse lost electricity. I’m trying to replace them now and this info was so welcome. Thanks Ashley!
They are probably sold out by now.
The watering wick on your new baby is supposed to be up inside the pot. Looks like yours is pulled out so the water isn't reaching the roots. Push the white stick up into the pot. Hope this helps.
I love self watering for ones that need to stay a little damp, ie peace lilies, calathea, fittonia. I have not had luck with philos in them.
I’m having problems with the coco coir they are putting in their pots. The philodendron white wizard leaves soak in too much water and turn brown and the Baltic blue pothos pulls in too much water and gets black mush on the leaves and the tetrasperma leaves turn yellow so i make sure i have soil to repot immediately after purchase
YAY! You saved the Tortum! I have a love/hate relationship with WalMart and their plant department. Excellent prices (the pots with BIG yellow price stickers are CLEARANCE) but they neglect them horribly. Here in OR, it gets very cold Oct-April and my WalMart keeps the house plants in an outside covered patio section and it just wipes them out. Really heartbreaking 💔
I went to waltmart today and saw some beautiful plants, however they were dying and really rejected. I tried to get a plant to save but the manager would not get me a discount that was worth it.
My best big box score so far this year has been my Hoya rangsan at Home Depot by proven winners

My home depot had hoya crassipetiolata today. I love the way that hoya grows. I was shocked to see it there.

I found a Pink Princess at a HEB here in Texas for only $26. Didn't get her though! I instead went for a Syngonium Milk Confetti that was $9.
Keep an eye on the tetraspermas! I found variegated ones at my Lowe's not too long ago and they grow different, like the wild version!
I have a monstera Peru that I put stakes up and I have leaves growing on the runners and a few spots that do eventually fill in. I love the dark color and deep texture
Found an Alocasia Azlanii at a Lowes this year so far.
Nice buy Ashley. I've not seen them a lot here in Sydney either only online and a little pricier than $20 😆 I'm not really sold on the tortem so far in my plant journey....I think because I prefer the wider/bigger leaves in a philodendron...not really sure if I'll ever want one but happy that you were able to find one so reasonably priced. Hope the roots are OK and that it thrives for you as you now move into spring, yay! We are technically in Autumn (Fall) but you coulda fooled me!!! We are still getting temps in the late 20s early 30s celcius and there won't be a change till late March possibly early April 😱 My plants are lovin it though 😅 Thanks for your time and enjoy the rest of your week 🥰

I’m an under watering, Sagittarius plant mama too 🤣🙋🏾♀️!! My tortum thrives with indirect light, in a chunky soil mix with a thorough soak every other week!! I may switch things up in the Spring but she is HAPPY and thriving now!! Great video!! 🙏🏾

In English if a “C” comes before an “a” or an “o” or a “u” then the “c” makes a ‘k’ sound. But if it comes before an “i” or an “e” then the “c” makes the ‘s’ sound. Just a good reference for sounding out the names of the plants. So with this in mind, Scindapsus would be pronounced “sindapsus”, the “c” would not make the ‘k’ sound in this case, but then the Dracaena would make the ‘k’ sound because of the letter after it being an “a”. Think of the word circus. The “c” will make the sound it makes depending on the vowel after it. Just a little tidbit to help you pronounce the names of the species of plants. 😊

My Walmart had 4 Tortum and they were snapped up quick. I already have a little one from a local nursery but Walmart's were bigger! Good luck with yours. It's so cute. ✨🌿
I took my Tortem out of the coco coir soil and put it in my normal mix. I found it had been staying too wet. There were two plants in the pot and the wetness combined with cold weather perhaps made the new growth points on both plants wither. It’s been a couple of months now and there are finally tiny new growth points starting. I wasn’t a fan of the pot either. I have another Tortem in terra cotta and find that works very well for this plant, so I switched my new one over to that as well.

I have two tortums on account of the fact my local nursery, UK ,were asking 13 pounds for them lovely big plants. I told them they might want to reconsider the price but they said that's what they were. So I happily grabbed two before they changed their mind !!in two years they have produced a couple of leaves each but they are not big growers
I water according to their growing but I don't water often. They have minds of their own and grow any which way
. They are in ordinary potting compost and I worry it may not be right. Can anyone recommend any different compost?

I am so glad you mentioned how poisonous the Sago Palms are. We had one in the backyard. I had no idea what it was and our dogs got into the seeds and almost killed our dogs. It was awful! The next day my husband pulled that whole thing out. We would’ve never known until the vet told us what it was.

Wow I bought that philodendron small than that one 43 dollars ,I loved I put water before get dry and is in my room close to the window just getting a lot of light.That's a good find.
I bought a really beautiful pink princess today in a 10" pot for 24.99 at a local nursery. I couldn't believe how healthy and full this plant is. They are 30.00 and up elsewhere and not as pretty or big.
Based on my experience, tortum is almost similar to monstera deliciosa, tortum likes almost dry media (80% dry) before giving them more water 💚🤘💚

Wanted to tell you your big box shopping vids are the best. You name most of the plants and the hanging ones. I’m trying to figure out the difference of all the philodendron red/orange and green leaf varieties cause they don’t label them. Too many people gravitate to the plants they like and spend too much time on them and skip so many others. Thank you

Red flowers on Mona Lisa, pink flowers on Thai, I believe.

@@Horsewoman-pt2ku Mona Lisa leaves are bigger and a darker green. Thai are a bit smaller and a lighter green. Both beautiful!
Just got a six inch ring of fire for 20 bucks at a GROCERY STORE
I just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing your lovely plant collection. However, I noticed that your recent purchase, the philodendron tortum, seems to have been overwatered from the start. I actually have one of these plants myself and I find that watering it only every two weeks with half the recommended amount of water works best. Some philodendrons can be quite sensitive and don't like to have wet feet for extended periods, especially in self-watering pots. I suggest replanting your philodendron tortum in a clay pot, as mine has done very well in one.

It always makes me upset when someone says that a plant is so poisonous for animals. Animals have instincts and know when they need to stay away from danger. I've lived all my life with plants and animals in and out of the house and have never seen one die or get violently ill because of a plant. In southern California, you can see sago palms everywhere and no dead animals anywhere near. Just saying.
My dog got into some of my plants, He never had before so I had never had them up. And he almost died. So I wouldn't say they all know to stay out of dangerous plants.
