When Indy tried to grab the grail in the end it wasn't out of greed. He just knew how important it was to his father and he was still desperate to get his approval. But when he told him to let it go it was a moment of reconciliation for both of them. (not sure reconciliation is the right word, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say. :D )

It was not greed as much as obsession. Indiana is obsessed with recovering the artifacts and putting them in a museum for the world to see. He spent almost 30 years trying to recover that cross at the beginning of the movie. He does not give up easily. He also risked his life dozens of times in the last few days to get to the Grail and now he is just a few inches from recovering the Grail. His father snaps him out of it.

The guy who gives Indy the hat in 1912 is named "Fedora" in the credits, but there's a theory that he was supposed to be Abner Ravenwood, Marion's father.

More than a theory - in the early drafts it was Abner. But they didn't want to pay royalties to Lawrence Kasdan for use of the character. Actor Richard Young says on set he was told the character was supposed to be Abner Ravenwood. Also accordoing to Young, the name "Garth" did not come about until the film's subtitles came out - it was never in the script and was never even spoken on screen.

Indy's hat is a fedora. Henry, Sr.'s hat is just a tweed bucket style hat. The Scottish have 2 hats that are somewhat similar to the French beret. A casual one called a Tam O'Shanter, and a more ceremonial one called a Balmoral Bonnet.
Also, when Indy was on his archeological adventure at the beginning, it may have been during Spring Break.

Hitler is played by the same actor that played Admiral Ozzel in Star Wars Empire Strikes Back.
Donovans actor played General Veers that lead the attack on the ground at Hoth, also in Empire.
He also played the villain in James Bond, For your eyes only.
Interesting detail is that Donovan shoot Henry Jones senior, Sean Connery who played Bond with a Walther PPK, same model that Bond use so technically James Bond were shot with his own gun.

"How does that work? Is it just on fire on the top?"
Fun fact! It's not the liquid burning, it's the vapor mixed with oxygen in the air that burns. Of course the heat causes more of the liquid to vaporize and the rising heat draws in more oxygen so the flame sits very close to the surface of the liquid.

Sean Connery rose to fame playing James Bond, a British spy who routinely uses a German pistol called the Walther PPK. It was introduced into the German army on the mid 1930s and was their standard sidearm throughout WWII. It’s the same pistol Donovan uses to shoot Henry Jones, Sr. James Bond, shot with James Bond’s own gun.

They were called airships and it wasn't really a safety issue. The Hindenburg was originally build to use helium, but the USA issued an embargo because there were concerns it could be used against their allies even before WWII. So the Hindenburg was modified to use hydrogen, which led to the well known accident.

Airships still exist. They used to be filled with hydrogen gas (which is highly flammable) but now use an inert gas (helium).
The company that originated the rigid airships, Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH still exists and is still based in Friedrichshafen, Germany. They build the Zeppelin NT (Neue Technologie) which are helium-filled airships but these pale in size to the most famous zeppelin of all, D-LZ 129 Hindenburg, which in 1937, burst into flames just after arrival to Lakehurst, New Jersey in the U.S. from a flight from Frankfurt, Germany. About a third of the nearly 100 people onboard perished in the accident. A modern Zeppelin NT is only 75 m long compared to the massive, 245 m long Hindenburg.
There are still a number of companies that are invested in the technology of rigid airships such as Hybrid Air Vehicles and Flying Whales. You can even book a sightseeing ride on a Zeppelin NT. Goodyear owns and operates 4 Zeppelin NTs.

Great reaction like always, this one is my favourite from the saga. Too clarify Indiana and his father will not live forever or have a long life the powers of the grail were only inside the temple, remember what the crusader told him, Grail only grants immortality if you drink every day and the Grail cannot pass the great seal. And this movie has some fun fact like they got 2,000 rats that were specially bred for the catacombs scene, and many extras during the nazi rally in Berlin were asked to cross theirs fingers behind their back during the nazi salute, and the line that sean connery "talks in her sleep" was completely improvesed. Keep up the good work i loved this one.

TIL Aqua had a song other than "Barbie Girl" that someone heard.
Also, the Hindenburg was a famous airship that exploded, killing 36 people. It was designed to use helium, but the US banned exports of helium (and they were the only real source of it) to prevent other countries from using it (balloons were a big thing in WWI). The Hindenburg was designed to use helium, but they ended up filling it with hydrogen due to the ban, which is very flammable.

21:47 It is a dirigible (or airship). Massive monsters that could be as much as 1,000 feet (305 meters) in length, they had an impressive internal aluminum frame. The US had a massive advantage in that there is a massive helium mine in Texas and helium could keep a dirigible afloat (although much more dangerous hydrogen could suffice). Several American dirigibles were destroyed by storms in the 1930's and a dirigible program was ended. The Germans still had a couple of dirigibles but they had to use hydrogen because of economic sanctions. In 1937, the Hindenburg dirigible blew up spectacularly and to this day, a certain reason why hasn't been found.
Much smaller, non rigid blimps were used by the US military, very effectively in anti submarine patrols. After the war, Goodyear corporation has used and still uses blimps for commercial reasons. Other companies also use blimps for various reasons.

It's a rigid air-ship, or Zeppelin. They have framework and rigid spines as you can see. Blimps are inflatable like balloons. Inside the Zeppelin's large chamber are several smaller chambers filled with hydrogen, which is lighter than air, but also highly flammable. The one that famously exploded was the "Hindenburg". By then they had switched to non-flammable helium, but the gas was rare and the main supply controlled by the US and thus, not available in Germany.

Depending on the conditions of a professor's employment with a university, a professor might spend 90% of their time teaching and 10% researching, or they might spend 10% of their time teaching and 90% conducting research. Either way, they still get paid regardless of how their time is divided. Then, there's also the possibility that this could be the end of the spring semester, and with summer comes more opportunities for research in the field.

In addition to the movies there is a television series _Young Indiana_ which are his adventures from a young boy to a young man.
This was intended to close out the movies series. But the call of the money was too loud and they made the _Crystal Skull_. That has mixed reactions. Recently they made the fifth, _Quest for Another Cash Grab_ which has few fans.
The Holy Grail is the cup Jesus drinks from at the Last Supper. In the story of the crucifixion Jesus is stabbed with spear and water comes out instead of blood; some stories have this fluid was caught in the same cup. It was added to medieval King Arthur stories. It's been lurking in European hero stories since. Around the 1950s some french added a new twist that the grail was about Mary Magdalene which was picked up for _The Davinci Code_.
I like Hayao Miyazaki movies with his fantasy airships. I find the idea romantic and wish we had them crossing the Pacific and Atlantic. But they're just too expensive compared to ocean ships and aircraft.

I thought the same thing but watching the scene many times you can pick up a smirk and she shoots Indy a knowing glance. She says so much in the book burning scene she has no love for the Nazis, she only using them to get the Grail. So it tracks she'd sabotage Donovan.

As someone mentioned, petrol and water do not mix. The petrol will float on top. Also, fire needs oxygen to burn..so it can't burn "underwater".
As in the first movie with the Ark of the Covenant, the properties applied to the 'power' of the Holy Grail are portrayed as literal, rather than symbolic and spiritual as they are in actuality within the Christian faith. They took it a step further with the Grail, since it's not even the actual cup that holds power. Drinking from it is just a ceremonial act. Accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior is what allows for 'eternal life', but again, that's in the spiritual sense regarding the soul, not the body.
The Grail in the movie is meant to be made of copper, I believe...rather than gold.

Steven Spielberg always wanted to direct a james bond movie but was never given the chance... he therefore created his own version in indiana jones... so when the time came to cast indianas dad, who better than Sean connery, the original James bond actor... as the bond franchise partially fathered the indiana jones franchise...

    • @0okamino
      @0okamino 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

After all, if you’re going to introduce a really cool character’s father, he has to be someone even cooler. I love that Henry Sr. is very much not like James Bond, though.

If you want to see Marion come back, keep going in the franchise.. only two left. Yeah Indie is older but I hope I can still move like that at his age. Harrison still did a lot of his stunts.

You say you’re in to 1990s movies, but how are you with flicks from the 1930s?
If you like the high adventure of Indiana Jones, I highly recommend the 1935 pirate movie, CAPTAIN BLOOD, which introduced the world to Australian native Errol Flynn, making him an instant international star and Hollywood heartthrob, whose smoothness with the ladies made Harrison Ford look like a reject from “Revenge of the Nerds.”

I really enjoy your reactions 27:56 but at times I just shake my head at some of your comments... I guess it adds to the funny.... A reminder that this takes place almost 90 years ago so many things are a bit different 😉 and one last note... It's a fictional movie not a documentary just enjoy the fun and action for what it is. It is more enjoyable that way 🤭

Fun Fact about that line that Sean Connery said in this scene.
The line that Sean Connery says Elsa "Talks In Her Sleep" was ad-libbed by Sean Connery as a kind of throwback to when he'd played James Bond

Love your reaction! Hope to see you post a visit to Petra in your Indy Cosplay.
While Raiders will always be my personal favorite, Last Crusade is close second and WAS the perfect ending to the Indiana Jones original trilogy.
However, since Lucasfilm decided to try and cash in with two more movies, both of much lower quality than the first three, I will say that the next in the franchise, Crystal Skull, is better than The Dial of Destiny. I mean, it has to be, it has an Australian national treasure in it. It’s still a misfire, but it’s not a total head-scratching dud like the last one . . . HOW DO YOU TOTALLY WASTE ANTONIO!!!🤬

  • @leebrandt8597
    @leebrandt8597 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Raiders is better because it was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. Last Crusade suffers from his father not being in the movie until an hour into it. Once Henry Sr shows up, it's a classic. Before that (with the exception of the intro) it was decent, but nowhere near as good as the second half. If the entire movie had been as good as the second half, it would be a contender for best in the series

    Interesting Fact for you, Qoukka:
When he'd been asked to portray Indy's father in this movie, Sean Connery initially turned the role down because of the fact that he and Harrison Ford were only 12 years apart in age
