This is, by far, my favourite bit of content you've made. I would love to see more long-form, narrative, and weirdly historical looks at internet horror and/or concepts in horror. Great video excellent work.
How have I never heard of this, it’s very clear this is one of the origins of scp. The short story format with addendums describing history and the technical aspects of the horror is very familiar
I really enjoyed this video. I was aware of the original story, but I didn't know there were any more of these released, so thank you for introducing me to the later parts.
The FAQ makes me imagine people in the know have a floppy with the parrot sitting in a drawer like an heirloom service revolver. I also can’t help but imagine some guy is out there that can draw a basilisk through sheer autism.
Considering that being left/right brain dominant can render some of the BLITs harmless/harmful , would not be a far stretch to say autism or some other neurodivergence could make you immune to some, hence allowing you to draw them out.
35:18 I apologize in advance, but I can't let this slide. The name of the famous former Soviet newspaper Pravda (Правда) is pronounced "PRAV-dah", not "Prə-VAH-də".
i actually never thought to myself that there might be an "original" story for spicy images and they just kinda emerged on the SCP wiki, so this is cool to know!
Love to see more people learning about BLIT and the other works, this collection of stories was a whole different type of terrifying when I first read it.
This was really interesting honestly! Thank you SeedButter for making a video on this and bringing it to my attention. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for future uploads as well, I can't wait to see the quality improve in your videos. I'm gonna be thinking about the Parrot for a while know, here's hoping it doesn't end up winking at me 😅 ❤❤
The last one might be my favorite, exactly because it's a hopeful end, and something I've expected to happen, because why wouldn't you be able to adjust to it through exposure to a weaker form? Brains are malleable and adaptive after all.
For those that don't know what Roko's Basilisk is and how it's related to these stories, it's a theoretical omnipotent AI that will simulate and torture everyone that has thought of it, but didn't work to create it. Think of it as a contract that says "by thinking about this contract, I agree to create the thing that will create this contract, under penalty of infinite simulated torture"
I honestly enjoyed the third story the most, maybe because it was easier to parse, more traditional narrative structure, or because it reminded me of a sort of beefed up goosebumpslike story.
The bassalisk is such a god damn stupid idea.. Anyone smarter then the AIBROS who imagined it can spot the giant flaw, being THATS NOT HOW TIME WORKS!!!
These sound like genuinely fascinating and well-written stories and I have to thank you for making me aware of them, but I just can't sit through this with all the mispronunciation. "Robbo" ought to be like "Rob", since his name is Robert, rather than "robo"; "palatial" is "pa-LAY-shul" not "pa-LAT-ee-ul"; and so on

Ah, so that's where the Berryman in a Berryman-Langford Memetic Kill Agent for from!
And Langford was the author's last name
The Parrot image is originally by K. R. Bayes, just giving him credit

This is super cool. Cant wait for someone to try inventing the torment nexus with this one.
