I'm terrible at participating in Discord, but I'm going to do my best to pop in for the Bloodsworn Trilogy read along! Happy reading, gents!

The Way of Kings! Very keen to hear your thoughts. I'd say it's going to be much more up your alley than Mistborn. Sanderson's strengths definitely shine brightest in Stormlight.

Fantastic month ahead for both of you, I’ve either read and loved the books you mentioned or have them on the tbr. I’m in the middle of The Land of the Living and the Dead right now and can confidently say it’s the strongest so far which is wild! So great!

Went chasing rabbits on the internet. Ended up on Book of Enoch. I guess since Papa is my favorite author to date and I thirst to be in his head and see his influences now I have to read the Book of Enoch. Damn Papa Gwynne is layered!!!

Since you guys are such history buffs I highly recommend you reading "The world of yesterday" by the Austrian author Stefan Zweig. He poignantly describes the world of stability, artistic flourishing and intellectual freedom of Europe in cities like Vienna during the beginning of the 20th century and eventually the lost era of peace and humanism, deeply affected by the rise of fascism and national socialism, including the Nazi persecution that forced Zweig into exile.

“Grace of Kings” ❤🤩! My favorite novel written within the last decade!
After a very ambitious (but very rewarding) Summer TBR (both the «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn» & the «Prince of Nothing» trilogies ++), this Autumn I am gonna be a bit more mood reading with no «big chonkers». I know I am definitely gonna read «Leviathan Wakes» (The Expanse #9, Space Opera, only book I didn’t get to from my Summer TBR) & «Lustrum» (US: «Conspirata», Cicero Trilogy #2, Historical Fiction about the eponymous Roman Statesman) by Robert Harris (book #1 «Imperium» is contending for my book of the year so far, together with GGK’s «A Brightness Long Ago»). I am most likely also gonna get to Michael Moorcock’s «(The Tale of)The Eternal Champion» Trilogy (Epic Fantasy/S&S).
Might also get to some Rosemary Sutcliff (YA Historical Fiction) & David Gemmell (Epic Fantasy). Cheers!

Reallly excited for some more Liu! Good idea to have a few smaller books in there, the chonkers take their toll 😅 happy reading!

Hey guys, just to tell you that I've finished Valour in a single week. It had been some time since I've felt so enthralled by a fantasy book and I'm obviously grabbing Ruin next. So please give my congratulations to your 'da', as he would say.

Whenever I hear the name Carl I just think of Rick from The Walking Dead and how it just sounds like he's saying Coral. It's just the most awkward name 😂
I've been seeing so many people reading Stormlight at the moment, and it's making me want to jump back on the Sanderson train. Must. Resist. Big. Books.

      😭😭 it’s such a tricky name 😂😂
The big book are TBR killers! Don’t relent!

Think I'll join you for book two as Bloodsworn as I've preordered book 3, so need to read 2!
Intermezzo is a chess term I believe.
Good timing on choices for novellas- September is Shorty September readathon (based on reading short books) and October is Victober, so a good time to be reading Dickens.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts about them all 😊

I've read Adam Bede (and 2 others by Eliot), she can be a bit of a tricky writer to crack but there is some beautiful writing in there! David Copperfield I loved

Intermezzo means a short, usually light, piece of music played in between acts of a play or between the bigger musical pieces in an opera (connecting them) 🙂

My September reads: New Bobiverse novel, Not til We are Lost (only on Audible) , New David Wragg Company of the Wolf, I too will be reading the Shauna Lawless new book along with new one from Anthony Ryan A Tide of Black Steel. I am on the 3rd Dungeon Crawler Carl book. They get better with each new installment.

My mom made me read Eliot when I was in high school (notice I said my mom, not my English teacher - don't let that nice lady from breakfast fool you; she was all like "you WILL be a well-read child and while everyone else is having fun reading Cujo by Stephen King you will read the classics or else!") but I think I only had to read Silas Marner; I've never read Adam Bede. I suspect Eliot will always be required reading for English majors. Demon Copperhead was okay but I honestly didn't think it was Pulitzer-worthy. I do like a lot of Kingsolver's books but I don't get what all the fuss was about with this one. It was 'aight but not like life-changing. Pretty depressing, actually.

I know I'm in the minority here but Dungeon Crawler Carl was my biggest disappointment of the year.
Aside from some good jokes and a very well written cat companion, the rest of the book feels like reading the tutorials from a video game. Several chapters are simply someone explaining rules. Won't be continuing the series.
I think I'll start The Grace of Kings next year! (Also wept when I read The Paper Menagerie) And cannot wait to start The Shadow of the Gods read along! Been in a slump since I finished A Time of Courage.

Big shame you didn’t enjoy Dungeon Crawler Carl much!
Isn’t The Paper Menagerie amazing? Excited to see your thoughts of SotG!
