It's been 20 years since Nike first introduced the Mercurial Vapor, and it's safe to say there hasn't been a more influential football boot during that time! The concept of a lightweight football boot built for speed is still incredibly popular, and has become a focus for just about every brand. We know the boots are great, but have they actually gotten better over the years? Is all of this "new tech" benefitting performance?
Well, in the name of science, and because I think it's super interesting, I weigh every Mercurial Vapor and Superfly model from the last 20 years! Which ones are the lightest, and which ones are the heaviest? The results might surprise you. What's you favorite Mercurial model?

T90 hands down.
Touch and comfort have definitely improved over the years. My all-time favorite is for sure still the Vapor X! The feel on the ball, relative comfort, and fit were fantastic with the stud pattern for my feet being more comfortable than the later Vapor XI. the anatomical soleplate never quite lined up with my feet for the desired result that so many have raved about on the models ever since.
Would love to see a video like this for Adidas' Speed boots over the years, as well as Puma's offerings. The preds and T90 series could be fun as well, but only seems fair (and fun comparatively) to hit the speed boots for all three major brands!

No, vapor 3 is by far the best and flyknit material is horrible
@@LilSwag1 Never had a vapor 3 so I wouldn't know about that. Sounds like once you got through the blisters they were decent boots though. I was a vapor X and superfly IV guy for a long time though.
It’s just crazy how comfortable not just the mercurials but almost speed boots in general have become. Will say the Vapor 11,Vapor 13,2014 F50 Adizero,X-Speedflow,Puma Evospeed 1.5 and Ultra are some of most amazing speed boots

Comfort, touch, and fit have certainly made some progress since the early days of the Nike Mercurial Vapor. The Vapor 8 in my opinion was the generation that made that big jump in quality of life.
Kinda expected the Vapor 11 would be the lightest. That soleplate construction using a single layer while having the anatomical shaping. It was an upgrade over the Vapor X’s soleplate. Gotta wonder how much lighter the flyknit Vapors and the current Vapor 14 Elite would’ve been if they had the Vapor 11 soleplate instead of the heavier split sole design.
Yeah I wonder this too. I never saw the practicality in the split sole and stud plates just adding extra layers to look cool. I’d rather a single baseplate where I can actually scrub mud off without worrying about the exposed upper. There’s a reason my Vapor 14’s are kept for good weather days only.
The vapor 6 did have a fanbase in my school's football playing group back in the day.
I've been rocking Vapor 4s FOREVER and just ordered my first new pair of cleats in years. Got some custom Vapor 14s that will be here tomorrow. Can't wait to see how it feels after skipping so many generations.

So what happened with your size Josh? I did remember you saying you were a size 9 at the early stage of your channel but now you’re a size 9.5. Was it due to not knowing your proper size back then or do the newer boots have a different fit?
Sadly nothing has come close to what the vapor 9/10 and the superfly 4 offered in all fields. They need to remake those shoes ASAP!

Definitely moss my vapor x’s, currently still wearing superfly 6 and I really dislike the upper. How are the newer uppers? Should I try to find a vapor x again? Any other editions that are comparable? My all time favorite look wise are vapor iv, I have them semi new for my collection red/gold.

hey josh, I recently bought a pair a nike mercurial superfly 5 fg from a retailer (brand new), do you think they'll be able to last me a season? (my old hypervenom phatal ag broke so I needed a replacement)
Had the vapor 1 wen they came out...wore them the 1st day at training lasted about 30mins the top of them ripped a small bit wat ever they where made out of was not great although I did like the feel of them on feet....never bought a pair like that again went bac 2 k leather boots 🤣
