      Considering doing the rear subframe on my focus. It's just passed the mot but there's a lot of knocking on the rear. So thinking do all the bushes and arms new shockers then that should cure the noise.

    Forgotten how rusty cars get in Northern Ireland not a major issue in Australia. Great job on the subframe and replacement of parts. I tend to use barrier cream on my hands, something that was really pushed in aircraft maintenance. Makes it easier to clean your hands and keeps the wife happy.

    Very informative hands on instruction video...Those lower arm inner and outer suspension bolts are a real pain. I spent 2 days try to remove the inner camber one...I have an induction heater and air hammer. In the end I used a blow lamp (carefully) with the air hammer with lots of GT85 to push it through the bush. Resist use a mallet to hammer the threaded end of the bolt (even if you hammer the refitted nut) you will bend the sub frame...and worse peen the end over so it will not slide through the bush....ps When I replaced the bolts, I used JCB hydraulic ram blue grease to aid future removal/adjustment...

    Really good video Dave. A lot of work involved, but well worth the finished article, it should last for years.
    What’s a ballpark figure for the cost of this kind of repair? The replacement components must be around £300? The hours dismantling and preparation for painting of the subframe must’ve been considerable.
    Top job though 👍🏻

    Yeah those trailing arm bolts. I cut mine out (inner ones with the camber bolt) with a 115mm cutting disc on one side of the bush and a recip saw on the other because the cutting disc would not fit. Oh, and the outer ones were seized in too so I had to cut them out also! I think I got both sides with cutting disc. Put in Powerflex bushes because I have too much money! 🤣🤣

    Top job, Dave. Another happy returning customer there; have watched a few of your excellent videos on that Focus (injectors and bushes IIRC).
    You've inspired me to do a little work to prolong the life of mine. I'll simply hit mine with a wire brush, some rust converter (Vactan) and a liberal coating of Bilt Hamber Dynax UB whilst up on ramps. If I get just another year out of it, that'll be grand.

    Just done the trailing arm bushes on my Focus following your other video (that was a huge pain on axel stands on side of road!). It was a great help thanks.
    Curious, how come you chose to fight with the camber bolts rather then chop them out seeing as you have new ones?
    My Chugger-Chugger gun is nowhere near as powerful as yours so i suspect i won't be getting mine out and chopping them is my only option.
    Other question/thought was could this all be done by dropping the subframe as a whole (first removing springs) then disassemble it. I suspect due to limited access i may have an easier time trying that.

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I chose to remove the bolts with the frame still attached to the car as access is good and the car body is holding the frame firmly for me. Choping bolts risk marring the frame.

    Dave, you were certainly persistent in taking out those frozen bolts in one piece. Since you were replacing the arms and bolts anyway, why didn't you use a Sawzall and a metal cutting blade? It appears you had room, and a good blade would cut those bolts in seconds. Anyway, entertaining as always.

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a last resort, risk of damaging mother material. It will never cut staight. You'll get a cut on the left side not so on the right. The right side would be butchered.
