I belive the area become a car drome I took my late wife there to learn to drive I remember she good at steering clutch gears and accelerating but not good on braking Happy Days...
No ,that was down the road in Upper Rainham Road towards Romford..I too had a bash round there in the late sixties when i was some 17 years old with my late father..He wasn`t impressed thinking i was going to blow the gearbox up on our family Cortina mk1..Hardly, as i only must have gone 20 mph at the most. I still have that car today. That area is called the Chase and is designated area of "green belt"(??) separating Hornchurch from Dagenham..It used to be a early gravel pit extraction.. Something i have little knowledge about. In 2008 i relocated to the semi rural Midlands and never looked back towards Elm Park and Hornchurch from which i grew up in..Like most other urban areas the standard of residents of some are called low lifes compaired with the 1950`s & 60`s.The last post of residence was on the airfield housing estate ..The video gives a glossy image of the now country park which was pleasant to walk my then German Shepherd Dog Emmy around.. Underneath all that is a once rubbish tip for London waste. Before i left there were plans of making a replica of an airstrip that was there,but it was just another ploy to open up for more rubbish tipping..Don`t know if the came about . I expect a lot of the original airfield artifacts still exists..Would be nice if they made a museum of the area like North Weald.
