► In 1943, RAF pilot Raimund Sanders Draper was flying above Essex, when his plane went into a spin.
He had the choice to eject but the aircraft would plummet straight into a school, so he steered it into a field and gave his life to save hundreds of lives.

My dear mother was at the school that day. She was 13. The teacher heard the plane coming & told the students to all get under their desks & hang on. The wing of the plane just clipped the side of the building, and came to rest in the playground or concrete area right next to the school. Before they renamed the school in honour of the pilot, it was called Suttons Secondary.

Its a nice myth, but something you'll never be able to prove. Let's face it, no pilot wants to land on a building. Both common sense and training precludes this course of action. The real issue is that youngsters are being taught to remember the sacrifice of people who died to save this country and defeat tyranny.
