  • The Isle of Man has a fascinating history with a strong Celtic and Viking heritage that is reflected in its culture. We began with a coach ride through the beautiful countryside to Tynwald Church. This unique Victorian church has a dual role as Parish Church and National Church. Our next stop was Peel Castle, situated on St. Patrick's Island. It was originally a place of worship before becoming the fort of Magnus Barefoot - an 11th century Viking King. It became a royal residence for 200 years until power moved to Castle Rushen in Castletown. We also visited the city center of Castletown which is dominated by the well-preserved medieval castle, Castle Rushen. It was originally built for a Viking king, used as a fortress, and was the site of a number of sieges and battles.
