    I just purchased one of these and I'm excited about it. It's fast, and the color is phenomenal. It's in excellent shape, and I got it at a bargain. Thanks for posting this series of videos - they are incredibly helpful.

    I just bought a 300mm f2.8 afs for $980. The optics are in perfect condition. The lens Barrell is in used but not abused conditIon. This lens is amazing! The bokeh is divine.

    With the 52mm drop in filter do you unscrew the clear filter, or stack the 52mm ND filter on top? I bought a Hoya ND and screwed it onto the clear filter thread, and it’s too thick to close. And I can’t seem to unscrew the clear filter off, to simply have the ND filter on. Which one is the problem - clear filter needs to come off (if so, how? it’s stuck), or Hoya HMC NDX4 is too thick? [i want to use the lens for video and drop the shutter speed down a bit] Your thoughts?

    Can this be used somewhat easily on a monopod? I'm thinking of getting one to go with my F5 for trips to the zoo, autocross races and a few other things that a great telephoto would be awesome for. Just need to be somewhat mobile with it.

    I have the version II lens and as a hobbyist I’ve kept it in mint condition. I’ve loved having it and pair it with a 2x tele on my D800. I have no desire to go mirrorless as this setup has served me well.

    Hi there. Does this lens' autofocus work with the TC-20e III. The chart doesn't specifically list the 300mm 2.8 afs or the 300mm 2.8 afs ii. I know the TC-14e III doesn't autofocus with it but I can't find a concrete answer on the TC-20e III.

    Considering how ridiculously small and light the current 300 f/4 is the 2.8 can use some shrinking...

  • @gazrayt
    @gazrayt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When I have my camera on my 300 there is a tiny amount of left to right (twist) play. I presume it's just because the lens is so big your applying more torque with your grip??

    I have the 300mm 2.8 ED IF ai-s, but can't get ND filters for it. Can you tell me if non-Nikon thin filters will fit this 52mm filter holder, or are the threads Nikon proprietary threads like the 39mm filter in the ai-s lens? Also, can you compare the ease of turning this focusing ring in MF mode compared to the ai-s version? I can turn that one with my pinkie. Thanks so much!

    • @MikeQuintero_
      @MikeQuintero_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Tara. I can tell you, without a doubt that the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/2.8D IF-ED will take a non-Nikon filter (threading is exact) and the one in the video. Don't know about the AI-S version. I tested a Hoya UV filter on mine. As far as the focus ring resistance...I wouldn't say pinkie, but is extremely smooth and requires little effort to turn.

    I picked up an excellent copy of this lens last week and when I tell you it is mint I mean it is MINT! It looks like its never been used before.
    One problem. I slipped on ice the week before injuring my wrist and now I can barely pick up the lens.
    Sucks to be me right now.

    i need tips! i purchased this lens used, in almost untouched condition but after cleaning the front of the glass I can see some dust inside and in the corner in front? and one a bit bigger spot on the inside of the front glass element. is this to worry about?! i need advice!

    • @_Amy-Ro_
      @_Amy-Ro_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally it's not of any concern, those specs of dust inside the lens are going to be so out of focus that they will not appear on your final image, and the spot if it's "big" it will lower the overall contrast and luminosity a little bit, 1% at most...not even that...i give this advice presuming that the dust inside is "reasonable" if it"s a layer that"s creating a fog like effect on the inside of the lens then that's a different storry...

    This seems like an excellent lense and I'm sure it is. However, being a bird photographer who is carrying this around 9 hours some days and shooting in all weather, I don't think I would be able to live without the vr, although some may disagree. All i'm sayin is if you are shooting little warblers and the like, you need vr for hand holding it IMO :)

    I owned this lens. The SWM burned out. Pissed me off. I had to ebay it off as broken and just picked up a mint AFI 300mm. Knock on wood but it has served me quite well.

      the AFI has no parts, pray it doesnt go down :(

    • @FreedomCompatriots
      @FreedomCompatriots 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that worries me too dude! However, I've done some research on the focus motor. Nikon doesn't make the motors They never have. They buy them. Turns out Canon makes micro stepper motors. There is also a site which specializes in micro stepper motors. What I need to do is find a motor and then send it in to spec out the replacement. Piece of cake! Don't believe the hype about Nikon not having parts. They just wanted to get in the SWM business which is faulty as well.

    Hi mister. I'm a big fan of your clips

Surprisingly or not Nikon want help me with the information I need. Do you have a link you can share or any other advice on how I find out what lens it realy is. I'm researching online and found the following warning from B&H photo re this lens. " AF-S lenses, while able to manually focus with all Nikon F-mount cameras, will autofocus ONLY with the following cameras- N65, N70/F70, N80/F80, N90s/F90x, F4, F4s, F5, F100, D100, D1 & D1x." IS THIS TRUE??? I see you use your D500 with this lens in another video. Can you NOT autofocus with a D500? I have a D700 and am considering buying this lens. Thanks for the video.
