I think the 790 captures 80 percent of what its bigger 890 R sibling can do. The savings can be spent on accessories and luggage, better riding gear, rider training, and better vacations and holidays.
90% I would say. You could actually spend 3000 on top notch 240mm Tractive suspension, get it on at least the same level and still save 3000 on an 890r… (in euro’s that is)
I've been vlogging mine for a couple of months...overall impressed, its very practical, and can't find anything to fault around build quality as-of-yet. Like how it could be on-road biased, but really its still great off-road in that unique KTM way.
@@markjones3425 just over 3k! Did the old model come with all the aids included?, because that'll bring this bike to over 11 grand, and without adjustable shocks..that will cost you extra...and 40-50 mpg is not much to shout about. An interesting proposition, but maybe not quite the bargain that you were banging on about.
I'm wondering if the build quality might be better than the Austrian production. It will be interesting to see if the 790 turns out to be more reliable than the 890.
I bought the new 790 and had a chance to ride new transalp. I think transalp is more for road. but ktm is for both. I just don't like cruise control being extra. Rather than that ıts been 3000 km in 2 months and enjoying it so far!
to be fair - there are enough review videos out there on these exact bikes and even videos breaking down the Transalp vs 800DE that you can find them and watch them and then compare them with the 790 in your own mind. Long story short - the KTM will out perform both the Transalp and the 800DE rather easily off road but both the Transalp and the 800DE will be slightly more comfortable for long highway miles. Honda will almost certainly be reliable. 800DE is considered extremely reliable. KTM is a coinflip in a lot of peoples eye in terms of reliability. With the changes to the 24 model camshaft (It's 30% heavier...so more solid) I'm now leaning more towards the KTM than the other 2.
hey pal, great review and looks an excellent bike. I had a 22 plate AT and got rid of it a few months ago, and have a 790 on order. ps what Offroad jeans are you wearing?
From research I've done - it appears the 24 model 790 has had 30% heavier cams installed which should solve the cam issues. Now, I don't own one and have never even ridden one...but I'm thinking of buying one as well and the reliability issue has been a BIG issue with me. It would appear that it's 'potentially' solved in the 24 models. It's worth doing your own research on this though and don't 'only' take my word on it.
Transalp finally has been made overland ready, only took the aftermarket 2yrs,but the 790 is now between £6-7000,pre-reg, far better value, you need to throw more than £3Grand plus on a T/A to compete
annoys me that they couldn't just make the sussers adjustable, 43mm stanchions too? my DH race bike (bicycle) had 40mm and that weighed about 40lb so i fear for bottoming out and flex, the bike will immediately need revalving for anyone who wants ride anything more than a boggo fire road made of loose gravel, anyway, it is a low cost option but would it really have hurt to add comp and rebound....Gorgeous bike, new design is amazing, so close - signed, ktm fanboy
About time they launched something that was almost affordable. Love the idea of Low tanks, low weight and 95hp and fantastic that they added the heavier crank. If they'd put the good, or adjustable suspension on this and offered a non-electronics, cable throttle version, I'd definitely be looking at one in the future. I can't wait to sling a leg over the KOVE 800X. Kove is the only innovator in the market currently.
Thanks for the review. I would never buy from a company that charges you for those electronic packages. And cruise control? What a joke. It already has the controls, all they had to do was enable it from the factory.
Still can’t get passed the fact that it’s made in China and that by buying it I would be supporting the economy that supports the CCP and it’s activities.

45 to 50 mpg 😮
My 2019 did 70+ on stock wheels and 60+ on F19/R17 wheels.
That's everyday riding, where most of it is motorway speeds.
The suspension should be adjustable for pre-load only at least (I see the rear pre-load adjuster wheel).
rear one with special tool, fork with inernal spacers, so it is not very easy adjastable

My 2019 790 cams are trash after 9000 miles. Plenty of reports of the same on the internet.
