I have been servicing Lodestars for 15 years, you should come to the UK and look at some of the hoists that are hung up in the rain for six months and then check the brakes. They get them wet then leave them to dry out, this causes the friction discs to bond to the intermediate plate through rust. Then when the motor is run next the material on the friction disc seperates and gets pulled off. I have seen this many times on modell RR, L and F. Steve.
@ Peter thank you for your comment. Our hoists are looked at every time they are used in the wet. Also we have rain covers, but they are usless when the hoist are inverted and used as chain climbers as the water runs down the chain and enters the hoist through the chain guides into the load wheel pocket, it then works it's way through the bearings and into the gearbox. Very frustrating. Steve.
Hi, we have a model L, 1 ton 1hp lift. Recently it has developed an issue. When the control button is pressed up-- the motor activates but the chain does not move. We tried pulling a little on the slack end of the chain and got the lift moving. However, loading more than a few pounds on the lift would produce the same situation. Does the brake need to be adjusted? Maintenance has likely been neglected.
Hi, Thanks for your fast response on my question! I volunteer at a non-profit fraternal organization that is 100+ years old. We use the lift as a dumb waiter from the first and 2nd floors. The person who installed it passed away years ago and no one there currently knows anything about it. So I have been trying to do some research. Could you tell me more about what would be required for the preventative maintenance and how we can fix the slipping problem? Thanks!
Hi Mike, This load protector, clutch, is not adjustable. It is calibrated for the hoist and the load that the hoist is expected to see. Please see the below excerpt from our manual: Protector™ The Protector™ should operate for the normal life of the hoist without service. The device has been lubricated and calibrated at the factory for a specific model of hoist and is not adjustable or interchangeable with other models. For proper overload protection be sure before installing a Protector™ that it is correct for the unit. The spring washer of the Protector™ has been color coded at thefactory as follows: Models Protector™ Color CodeWB, WE WhiteWE, WH OrangeWJ RedWL, WR Green WARNINGRemoving the snap ring on the Protector™ assembly will allow the parts to spring apart. TO AVOID INJURY:Do not attempt to disassemble the Protector™. Let us know if you have any further questions.Henry Brozyna

Hello, I find the Morris 1-ton electric hoist to be a splendid performer in the wet. Thankyou.
