    I really enjoy watching someone’s troubleshooting process. Good fix. Yeah I’d be interested to see how you set this up to lift and the load test

      I have a plan but it’s not conventional. I’ll video the whole thing. It will probably have to be a couple parts though.

    Good job fixing it!
    CM actually makes load chain for them about 25 miles from me in Lexington Tennessee. They are good hoists. Have a great day!

    Nice work on the repairs, glad it was just the capacitor. I need to finally break down and buy and electric hoist for my shop. Happy wrenching 🔧🔩

    You don't need to worry about your meter showing ~1nF when it's just sitting there. That's really not very much, particularly in the realms of motor capacitors. It may well be a true reading of the capacitance of the cables, a capacitor is two conductors separated by an insulator and your leads are two conductors (we hope) separate by air which is generally an insulator. Of course it's also possible it's just your meter being rubbish!
    If the capacitor is as shot as it looks like you might find that your meter will measure something. If you haven't binned it and are curious I'd happily test it for you.

    Great diagnosis and fix! Your tenacity to jump in and fix most anything has earned my sub. 👏
    In my previous life, I serviced CM hoists. If you haven't already set the limit switches after altering the length of your chain, CM has some great tutorial videos on their channel. It's not pretty when the hook gets hoovered into the chain guide, or runs the all the way out at the other end. 😬

    • @CalamityKim1
      @CalamityKim1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for that 😁
      I did set the limit switch but I found it to be hit and miss which annoyed me. Mainly hit and miss if you held the button constantly to go up it’ll stop higher up than if you just jab the button. I have an issue with height in the building where I’ll be using it. I have stops on it though. I do have it limited when going down because that’s not an issue for me.
      Thanks for your comments and sub. ☺️

    If you have a clamp meter you can measure the current on one of the leads to the capacitor, will show if its doing anything, sometimes they can be good but the start relay or centrifugal switch in the motor is faulty.

    • @CalamityKim1
      @CalamityKim1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very valid point. Thanks for that it never even occurred to me. I’m going to check it now and may cross reference with the old capacitor in place. It will be interesting to see the readings.

    I like the funny cut aways you do in your videos, I didn't realise you'd made a new one since the roller bender.
    good job getting this working, hopefully you won't have any back injurys when you move onto bigger, heavier future projects. Just a shame you need a hoist to lift the hoist 🤔 🤣

    We had them in the construction industry and found that many transformers stamped 3kva actually due to the amount of current available from a standard 240 socket wasn't enough to power the hoist up properly 🤔 as regards other projects Kim ,,,,,SEND THEM 🙄😂😂😂

    • @CalamityKim1
      @CalamityKim1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ll be buying the correct transformer and wiring my garage to accommodate that.

    • @bobpaterson1845
      @bobpaterson1845 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always found that a 5kva transformer hard wired worked best well in construction anyway 👍

    • @CalamityKim1
      @CalamityKim1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is pretty much my idea, although I’m going to get the type that is just a metal box with a transformer inside with no plugs on the outside. I will hard wire but he lot and. Add a couple yellow plugs round my garage too.

    • @CalamityKim1
      @CalamityKim1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not? I think it was 25m, I now have 2.5m on the hoist like I needed and the 22.5m in the bag still out of the way.
