You should try something my dad showed me as a kid. Take a soda can and cut it In half drill a hole in the center of the bottom just big enough that a firecracker snugly fits in it. Get a bowl with about an inch of water and set the can inside with the bottom up. Light the firecracker and when it pops it will shoot the can high into the sky.
