Thanks for the review. We're looking at these for our son for Trek to Philmont and you came to a lot of the same conclusions that we did. Specifically the side versus end entry and vestibule size were big deciding factors for us here. We're getting ready to order now. Keep up the great work!
What an amazing review! The comparison is truly helpful for shoppers who need to save time in shopping so we can get the gear, figure it out quickly at home as we do a pack review. I’ll be doing some night desert camping soon to see the skies, and I’m not sure how this odd color of the fly will affect falling asleep under the stars….but..scorpions…all manner of beetles…and more! Hey. It’s all a trade off isn’t it.
Hi, Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the review. FWIW, I haven't had any trouble with the color, with or without the fly on. Of course my previous tent had similar tones. I do wish it had two doors as the best tent position didn't always equate to the best door position. 😅
@@highcountrychronicles so, I went with the Tiger UL model you have here, but, no mountain glo MtnGlo lights. Very odd. The model on sale didn’t have the lighting, but, color and weight specs same as yours. I suppose a $5 walmart glo light strip with AAA batteries will be just the same :)
Hey Jim I actually had an unrelated question for you. Do you carry bear spray? I know there aren't grizzlies in the area but I'm considering bear spray for my wife and I maybe to deter a mountain lion or other animals
@@chorizobandito8943 Hi, I don't very much anymore but I will if I suspect there may be mountain lions around or I've got a hinky feeling about the place. Like Hilton Lakes, I always carry bear spray there. It just screams "cougar" to me. Frankly the only time I've come across a bear hiking was as Lake Mary in Mammoth. That place is bear central. We saw 3 and actually had one pop around a corner on us.
Great to see you back in action Jim. Looking forward to another great year. BTW…took your advice on a fly rod. Bought it and took it out to Relief Res. Caught several fish on a fly rod (1st time) thanks to you.
Hey man! Have had a “two person” tiger wall for a couple years now, love it. Been good for back and bike packing. I think you’ll love it. And yeah, single stake for the vestibule points, just both of them over a single. I hadn’t got a new tent in, well let’s just say a very long time… it’s been fantastic. Keep the videos coming!
Thinking about sticking with my current DD pyramid setup...or using a NatureHike Cloud 2p, getting a Cooper Spur 2, or a zpacks duplex with freestanding kit
Wow! One of these is not like the others. LOL. Zpacks that's a pretty big investment. How durable are they? The Cooper Spur's a lot like this. Only bigger with two doors.
I mean really they are all not alike. In regards to zpacks, I've read that dyneema has high tear strength and abrasion resistance but it's kinda scary to risk to find out for that price, I would want it to last for decades
Can’t wait for your first trip / video. Wife , dog and I went out to Piute and Gem lake last weekend and had a great time. I didn’t catch any fish. Or see any for that matter. ✌🏻
@@highcountrychronicles the conditions were great , a little ice on inside of the fly in the morning. They have self permit outside ( pinecrest ) , so you shouldn’t get turned away.
@@highcountrychronicles Through the rain fly. I noticed when we first set it up that the rain fly seemed to be incorrectly cut or sewn because it was a bit misshapen and small. It deformed the frame ever so slightly no matter how I pitched it. The first night out it was colder than expected and a small sheet of ice built up on the outside of the tent further making the rainfly misshapen. There was a puddle of water at the foot end of the tent with no obvious cause other than the seam leaked on the rainfly. I returned it and BA only gave me a percentage of the purchase cost towards a different model. Needless to say I wasn’t happy with the tent model or BA’s customer service. I have had 4 BA tents over the years and this was the only flop. The others have been stellar. My daughters are old enough now to come backpacking with me so we use bigger tents and share the load. When I solo backpack or backpack with buddies I currently tarp tent or use a bivy but the Tiger Wall may be an attractive option for shoulder season. Also looking at a single wall tipi style 4 season tent so I can use it in the winter months as well. We will see.

Cool. I might be headed out that way myself, depending on how the permitting situation over father's day weekend pans out! How were the conditions?
