  • Two marathons in two weeks! Time to finish the Spring training block with a bang, and leave it all out there. Will I get back to sub-4 hours?

Bryan, congrats on your Sub-4 last year. I just finished the 2024 Shamrock Marathon. It was my first one and your video really helped me to see the course and that bridge around mile 15. It has an incline and you really feel it because once you are off it at mile 16 you realize you still have 10+ miles to go. I did it at 4:19 for my first one and hope to get to a sub-4 on the next 1-2 marathons. Keep posting these marathon videos and if you can let us know about the start line and finish line. For example, the start line and finish line for the Shamrock Marathon are about 1 mile apart.

Yes, that bridge was brutal 🤪
Hope the coastal winds weren’t as bad for you this year! Still, hope you had a great experience.

Hey man how did you like the race I might do the full marathon for the fun of it this year

It’s a good race and well organized. Like many marathons, crowds dwindle past 13.1, but that’s where mental toughness comes in 👌🏽
The military installation, and the boardwalk are the main points. Have fun!

Fort Story is a Navy Base my friend. Its not Army.

It’s an Army base being jointly-operated by the Navy. Appreciate the fact check! 👍🏽

Bryan, I will run the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach this weekend (2024). It is my first marathon and it starts at 730am. I did not see what time to get in the corral. But from your video on it there was a lot of people out there. What time did you get there to check-in the morning of the marathon?

Hey there! Great to hear on your first marathon! Shamrock is a decent size event so showing up 30-45min before the start will allow you time to warm up, use the portables, and whatever your pre-run routine calls for. Have fun!

Thanks. Any tips to what to put in the race bag? I will include the long sleeve shirt they give, small towel, maybe a bar to eat, sliders.@@TheFaster262

@@Marc-dk8vw mainly depends on you. My hotel was 200feet from the finish so I didn’t use the race bag, however I did have comfortable clothes set out once I refreshed. “Fortune favors the prepared.” 👌🏽

That's right, mine is within walking distance also. So, once you were done and you went to your hotel to change clothes, could you go back in for the after marathon festivities or once you leave you cannot go back in?@@TheFaster262

What was the temperature at the start? Looks like a lot of people wearing winter wear. Thanks

A cold front hit that weekend, and with the coastal winds, it was 39F at the start. It was a huge difference from 55F the day before.

@@TheFaster262 Oh no, that must have been brutal. I also did not factor in the massive wind against you as that marathon is near the coast from the look of it. Those conditions are not for me even though it is a flat course I think. You did great though. Great video recap. PS- Subscribed.

Brian, what did you record it with (iPhone, GoPro, etc)? If you used an iPhone or GoPro, which model? Just asking because the video quality was great (no shaky cam) and so was the audio (no background loud wind blowing noises and we can hear you clearly). I am working on my first marathon (early 2024) and would like to record myself at certain points of the course to give myself notes (such as at mile # I am doing fine, but at mile # I am experiencing X). This way I can learn from it for my next one. Thanks

Hey Marc, I used a GoPro with a separate cover to help reduce wind and other indirect noises. 👍🏽
