      Linus Magnus I have been jumping myself with a full face since a long time but since I want to do camera jumps I invested in an open face. Looking forward to trying it this summer and see if I like it...

    I love my Phantom XV.
    Being full face, the removal of the lens is so easy and fast that I use it most of the times with good weather without the lens.
    Even in the same day I can make both closed face and open face, is up to decide 30sec before gear check.

    Just ordered a carbon fiber full faced helmet from Bonehead Composites called the Dynamic. It has the widest field of view on the market today and the company owner has been skydiving since the 90s I believe so he knows first hand what we need. It's spring loaded, no exterior screws, has a really nice pad and liner setup and I opted to also order a blue mirrored visor as well as the clear one it comes with. I've seen and tried on their products and couldn't be happier with another helmet. Retail is $440 plus shipping and the extra visor was $55. Hope this helps somebody in their decision.
    Blue Skies!

      It's called a Valsalva Maneuver. Used to equalize the air pressure between the outside atmosphere and the air inside the sinus cavities / ear canal, to avoid pressure pain, especially during air travel. Some people have to use it during climb to altitude and descent, especially if they have a slight cold and their sinuses are somewhat blocked. . The Valsalva Maneuver was originally discovered and used during scuba diving, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, And now, sometimes, during skydiving. :-)

    Great video ! I have a question. You mentioned you open your visor when under canopy. So, in case of hard landing, when helmet is supposed to protect us, can it do its job properly with visor opened? I am little paranoid about every risk I can imagine, and I am just thinking about visor being smashed on hard landing and its gibs going to cut my face :D Isn't it safer to land with visor closed ?

    • @steveearnshaw1917
      @steveearnshaw1917 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I always open my visor after checking my canopy and stowing my slider as it make a much nicer rider under canopy with the wind in your face. On final approach I always flip the visor down as I want to protect my face, prevent the canopy snagging on my visor after landing and not to get dirt or a bug in my eye. So easy as the visor is spring loaded to close.

    Hey Catherine, I'm Brian. I'm a USPA AFFI and USPA/Sigma Tandem Instructor. I've got almost 9 years in the sport, roughly 450 AFF jumps, and just over 1000 tandems. I have a question for you. Why do you state in the beginning of this video that all skydivers are required to wear helmets until they get their D-License? That's incorrect. The USPA Basic Safety Requirements in the SIM only require students to wear helmets until they have earned their A-License (tandem students are exempt from this requirement). Nowhere in the SIM does it say anything otherwise. See SIM section 2-1 M.2.a for reference.

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brian. The confusion might come from the CSPA. However that surprises me that an A-license can jump without a helmet. Would you let your student jump without a helmet fresh after their A-license?

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I just found SIM 5.3 k:
      A rigid helmet-
      should be worn on all skydives (tandem students may wear soft helmets)
      I agree that it is not a requirement but a recommendation though. Learning everyday! Although, it is not a bad thing that young skydivers think it is required for them to wear a helmet. It is not a dangerous recommendation I did there. ;)

    If you wear prescription glasses would the open face be better if you have to ditch your helmet?

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the opposite I would say that a full face would allow you to keep your glasses without messing with skydiving glasses. ;)

    Planning about to buy my first helmet, but even after this great video, I still don't know wich one to chose, open face or full face. Full face seems really attractive by its look and I think (maybe I'm wrong I didn't tested it) helping to stay in your ''bubble'' and concentrate on what you have to do. But I'm scared to miss the feeling of the wind in the face during free fall and also (even if it's annoying sometimes) the special ''shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'' sound of the wind in the ears.
    Cookie ones seems great, I've already seen lot of people from regular jumpers to instucters wearing some G3 and G4

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm unfortunately no. It will be too heavy and you'll be going at 125mph with the wind hitting you at different angles than on a motorcycle. And finally you just wouldn't be allowed too. ;)
