The last time I spoke with Simon Hunt, he predicted a rocky road ahead for the global economy, that will eventually culminate in the massive pile of $trillions in global unserviceable debt going into default causing a worldwide depression by 2025.
Since his last appearance, the markets have become a lot more optimistic, US Q3 GDP hit 4.9% and inflation has marching downwards to 3% -- all positives. Though on the negative side, US deficits & debt balances have soared, leading economic indicators have fallen to recessionary levels, and the Middle East has been plunged into war.
Today we'll ask commodities expert and geopolitical analyst Simon Hunt how any of this impacts his dire forecast for 2024/2025.
Follow Simon at his website www.simon-hunt.com/

The current market/economy is unnecessarily tougher for boomers/senior citizens, I’m used to just buying and holding assets which doesn’t seem applicable to the current rollercoaster market plus inflation is catching up with my portfolio. I’m really worried about survival after retirement.

Income producing property is what we know as "capital". Those who are not the owners of these large holdings are meant to bear the burden of capitalism's problems. The only way out is socialism. And the owners will do anything to stop this. Earth is a giant plantation. If you aren't one of the owners, then you are one of the slaves.

Problem is that there's only so much doom and gloom that someone can take before before it all becomes a kind of white noise. I was glued to Peak Prosperity when I discovered it 5 years ago, only to discover that living your life based on a constant, imminent fear of societal collapse is just... not good. And the longer you spend listening to various shades of 'doomsday' prophecies that never come true, the less seriously you end up taking them.

Bam. I have listened faithfully for two years and as a result of the constant doom and gloom pounding away at me, my portfolio is down, or I should say, has not gone up nearly as much as it could have if I just would have stayed in and dollar cost averaged. Yes, I know our level of debt is unsustainable, but this soul crushing outlook leaves me empty of any joy and for this reason I’m going to unsubscribe. We can worry about the Taiwan straits, or, we can worry about the hundreds of thousands of unknown persons, who originate from EVERY country in the world, entering the country, These are not poverty cases seeking asylum, these are military age men, each one paying significant money, to get into the country for unknown purposes.

May Amazon be damned! While touting Amazon as a model of efficiency what people often forget is that its overall business model is far from efficient. Little attention is being paid to the environmental damage being done as it quickly places goods in the hands of spoiled customers that are in no real hurry for them or decide to return them.
Polluting planes flying packages across the country and putting a small item in a box to be driven miles to a customer's doorstep is far from environmentally prudent. The amount of waste generated from such a promotional online distribution model boggles the mind.
The article below argues that Amazon is a predatory monster that has been unleashed upon America. It details why Amazon is bad for America, how it grew so fast, and why the company should be boycotted.

We helped Saudi Arabia build out theirs. How come we didn't just take that?
The US's economy is about 14 times the size of Russia's. If we wanted,.. we could have taken their resources long ago, Especially after Gorbachev tore down the wall.
Upon which,.. Ukraine gave up its nukes its defense capabilities only because the US agreed to provide for its defense. That's all but signing the paper for being a member of NATO.
But the US is "trying to take over russia's resources"???
This must be the conspiracy theory scuttlebutt in Dubai.

After listening to your weekly market review with Lance, who I believe correctly states that predictions beyond 3-6 months are sketchy at best, it was hard to listen to Mr Hunt talk about events he predicts will occur up to 7 years from now. His scenario is certainly possible, but I’m sure it is one of many possibilities. He makes it sound like it is the only one. I’m curious what he thinks is the probability of these events occurring.

Freight levels are at a crawl. This is a huge indicator of a recession and the tight market hit in July just as Yellow went down. Freight predicts the future economy 6 months prior. We are looking at a horrible downturn in February. Many jobs lost and then comes foreclosures about 5-6 months later. This is going to look terrible by September. Suddenly, the idea of renting a massive warehouse & filling it with toilet paper to barter is beginning to sound like a sensible investment strategy!

Good point! Inventing an edible toilet paper would kill 2 birds with 1 stone! (We'll need a good marketing team, that's for sure!)@@delaville680

Seems to remember some hoarders getting stuck holding the bag on that, a long with some masks and lawsuits.

It is respectfully quite difficult for an individual to own physical commodities apart from precious metals and perhaps (by proxy) uranium. You can own futures contracts but those too are “paper”.
