To me old forester is one of my most perfect bourbons. It hits on everything I'm looking for. The 1920 and 1910 are my favorites. I've never been able to find the higher end bottles
I gave the rest of a bottle of new label 1920 to a friend after we sampled it. I was not impressed, but he said he would drink it. Give me 1910 all day.
OF 86 has been the biggest disappointment for me. I know it’s just a $20 bottle, but I thought it was going to be my everyday drinker from how everyone talks about it. Didn’t like it
@@ravensoath I'm a huge fan of the 100 and never get the 86 as for a few $'s more, well i get 100 proof. I do want to try the 86 though. Hope my experience is better!1
Good video, wish it included the Single Barrel Barrel Proof pick's somewhere on the list. Obviously they have variability, but Id be curious to see where they fit in your mind for value given they can be $80-90
Agree completely. Or at least the sib bs rye since they're not store picks. That being said, the most delicious bottle I own currently (to my tastes) is an old Forester single barrel barrel strength. I'll be really sad when it's gone.
Agreed - I've only found a bottle of it once, at Total Wine, but it was spectacular - and lasted longer because I personally had to add about a teaspoon of water to every ounce.
Your description of the birthday bourbon is exactly what I think about the 1897; the nose is fantastic, but I don’t care for it on the palate as much as other bourbons.
Agreed but it’s so weird I have two bottles and consistently one scores way higher in blinds and blows the other bottle away they were bought at two different places and man do I like this one btl I have of it !
I'm a few months in to this bourbon odyssey, and I can honestly say Old Forester's product line is a flavor bomb, and probably my favorite. Beyond that... you guys are hammered in this video. It's so obvious!.
I really enjoy Old Forester across the brand lineup, but aside from 1910, they're basically all the same to me just at different proofs which only slightly alters the core profile. I think the best things I've ever had from them were a 90 proof SiB and a barrel-proof SiB. After trying bday bourbon last week for the first time, all I could think was how glad I am for never chasing it. It was just a very good well-rounded bourbon that I would be upset paying $130+ for when they have sooo many solid options for way less $. So to that point, I'm glad to see you putting the 86 and 100 at A level, because they just are.
Beginning of 2021 I went on a STRICTLY Bourbon Whiskey consuming binge and it started with me going out for 1920 and it being sold out and so I paid the liquor store owner for my EC small batch and an Old Scout store pick and wwiith my payment left the money for that 1920 so that when they restocked they can reach me. All because of you guys. I couldn't wait for their restock and found it elsewhere and STILL kept my pre-order in place because it was everything you guys made it to be. I still have that bottle unopened and now also own a new label one.
D tier old forester is one of my favorite crushable bottles because I can grab it anywhere, drink it with abandon and go get another whenever I want it. 1870 has some flavors going on that the 86 and 100 just don't... but if I could find single barrel 100 every day that would replace 1870 for me.
Good video. I have only seen 86, 1910, and 1920 on the shelf locally and the 1910 and 1920 are awesome and I go back and forth on which one I like the best and for $20 a bottle the 86 is a great daily drinker if I drank every day.
Boys, I think you just got the 1920 one tier down from where it ought to be. Despite your previous video about new label vs old label, there is absolute ZERO difference in the liquid. It's a label change ONLY. That's a fact, not just my opinion. But regardless, you've got the 1910 in the right spot, and that's my favorite Old Forester product.
When Sean said 100 was WORSE than 86 I wanted to disavow my name...and I like my name...cause it's SEAN! In AZ 86 is $18.49. 100 is $19.49...like c'mon! Not on the list was Old Forester 100 proof Rye. i had heard rumors that they stopped making this and I didn't believe it...until the $20 1ltr Old Forester rye bottles just disappeared from places around A. I hope I am wrong and we are not left with only the single barrel rye annual release and hat's it. Because that was such a great rye at an amazing price. I am glad you ranked the Dated ones, because it's hard to pull the trigger on a $70 1920 without really knowing if it's better than that $20 100 proof...
On my next visit to the US, OF 100 is def on my list along with 1910 now. OF 100 was my very first real bourbon. I too love the old label 1920 and was lucky enough to snag a bottle in person in Calgary, Alberta. Now when you order online they only ship new label and I mass ordered 5 of them! (no apologies for incorrectly labeling them old label).
I had a bottle of Birthday from 2009. Same exact phenomenon. Smelled delicious but lacked something when drinking it. Still a phenomenal bourbon! I suppose the difference for me was I bought it off the shelf for $40!
Gentlemen i think our pallets are quiet different. 1920 and 1897 are my top 2, but I think I should revisit it to be sure. I obviously haven't had birthday, president, or 117. I do favor sweeter stuff

Would love to see an update to this tier list. Now regarding the 1920, I've now had 3 bottles, 1 old label, 1 new label shortly after the switch, and now on my new label current production. There was an obvious step down on that early run new label, putting it below the 1910 and maybe even regular 100 proof, but the current production 1920 is as good if not better than old label 1920 and IMO better than current production 1910. I wasn't expecting the 1920 to get better after the new label decline but they must have heard the complaints and rectified the issue.
Maybe it's just me, but I really enjoy the BiB I have. Agree with the rest. Just got a 2022 Birthday Bourbon. Trying to decide if I should crack or not.

I wish I understood the love for Old Forester. I have been sampling for the last three years, and would not put anything I have had over a B. Glad to see 1920 as a B rather than A. Honestly think it’s super overhyped. That bottle was a one and done for me. Super hot with some slight typical bourbon notes and didnt improve at all over time. Next is 1910
something is off with my newest bottle of signature 100, wasn't planning on ever buying again. I enjoyed my first bottle though, has anyone had issues bottle to bottle?
I'm proud of you guys for putting anything in B-D. I figured you'd just fight about whether each bottle was an S or A because you love them all so much. It's like tier listing your kids.
Ok everyone talked up the 1920 and when I bought a bottle it was the new label and I lost faith in people’s choices. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as good as it was hyped to be. Now I know why.
Dan is spot on - Old Forester 100 is easily better than 86 (at least for my taste) and is the best value in bourbon alongside WT101. Cheers gents!
About 6 months into my bourbon journey and am still blown away by 1910. Thanks for the validation
I am glad others share my love for 1910 - it usually takes a backseat to 1920 - High proof doesn't always equate to superior
Amen!
I prefer it over Woodford Double Oak
I am a little confused. You say 1910 takes a backseat to 1920 but it sounds like you prefer the 1910.
He referring to other typical reviewers with regards to that portion of the comment.
1910 is probably my fav sipping bourbon. Preach!
Old Forester is my favorite line. Taste, price, and availability. No second market jacked up price gouging.

All of the 1910 love here is sooo satisfying. A nearly perfect bourbon. I like it much better than the 1920.
As someone whose budget doesn't allow for much collecting at all or for purchasing high-end bottles, I absolutely LOVE 1920.
You guys are completely right on 1910. IMO it is way better than 1920 and is THE bourbon of the Whiskey Row line.

hanging out with a friend doing something together, that's the best!

Have y’all tried the OF 150th anniversary. I think it’s S tier. Curious where y’all would put it
Easily S tier without factoring in th hyper-limited nature of a one-off LE.
Sean nailed the OFBB. I had a sample of the 2021 and I loved the nose and the taste was good, not great which was a disappointment.
Nice color Sean!
Dans face when Sean says OF100 is a C, gets me every time. Yes I’ve watched a few times 😂
Junkies time!
Have them all. 1920 is a bit too hot for me. Love love love 1910. Use 86 and 100 for OF and ginger ale.
I can see that about the 1920 but compared to other bourbons with that high a proof it does not have a lot of burn IMO.
My local Woodman's sells the OF 86 fo $30.99 for a 1.75L. So as far as I'm concerned, it's the greatest whiskey ever made.
It's funny, I keep avoiding the 86 as the 100 is always available and I like higher proof whiskeys, but I need to give this a go.
Finally! Good stuff BJ’s
