I have been thinking of getting a 22 inch ontario, the review on the handle has had something to complain about but I could just replace the handle.

It would not be too hard. Would you like me to run up a quick comparison video some time this week? Anything I might have you would like it compared to?

@@Redwolfblog there's a machete at Walmart that sells for $5, the reviews I've seen about it have been absolutely amazing. Maybe you can see if it can compete with the tramontina since they both have a similar shape and size, being at 18 inches.

@@The_Shape24 I will see if I can find one. $5 ain't breaking the budget.

I have all the machetes. Ontario handles are a B to deal with to make comfortable. Also, Ontario 1095 steel is not an appropriate machete steel (too brittle) and their heat treat is 💩.... IMO
Stick with brands like Tramontina. And you get way more options, designs, and lengths. Way better factory edges to work with.
Ontario machetes CAN be good machetes. They CAN hold sharp edges much longer than something like a Tramontina.... BUT..... I would still go with a Tramontina!
I've seen way too many Ontario machete breaks and I've snapped my own. I'd rather have to sharpen the edge a little more often then have a broken machete when you need it the most!

    Try a fiskars machete?

I have in the past, and was not particularly impressed by the edge retention , and I remember the grip rolling in my hand. I will look around locally, and if it is not to much, sure. You want a particular comparison, or just a review?

I've had my eye on the 22-inch fiskars machete because I generally dig Fiskars products. If you would be so kind, I would love a review. The Ontario and/or Tramontina would be good points of comparison. @Redwolfblog
