UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak surprised everyone by announcing the General Elections on July 4. The deadline to organise an election was January 28, 2025. Sunak has called it six months before. He had asked King Charles to dissolve Parliament on 30 May - this was granted. Political party leaders are now expected to visit the country as campaigning begins.
