"And I have by me, for my comfort, two strange white flowers-shrivelled now, and brown and flat and brittle-to witness that even when mind and strength had gone, gratitude and a mutual tenderness still lived on in the heart of man."

I was touched by this last sentence. After all that happened, humanity and compassion are immune to time.

    Reflective and Engaging!
I read Men Like Gods (1923) before The Time Machine, and I think this juxtaposition is very interesting as it allows us to see the change in Wells' views about human destiny and capability. Although the former is not as popular, I enjoyed it tremendously, maybe because I was quite overwhelmed after reading quite a few dystopian novels, and came out of it being more hopeful and refreshed.
Reading many works of one writer can surely give us an insight into their inner worlds, their struggles and battles. Unfortunately, as I read from the biography section of the book, Wells came back to the sense of pessimism and bitterness at the end of his life.

Great video. I read H. G Wells religiously. He was such a genius for his time, it's funny reading 'The First Men in the Moon' nowadays from a scientific perspective but his opinion on the world and what if scenario's are very believable. I was first inspired to read with a book called 'The Painted Man'. Since then, dystopian futures, apocalypse and sci fi has and probably always will dominate my interest.

For me, '' The Time Machine '' is without question the best Sci-fi novel of all time.

Do you think that this adventure challenged his faith? Or do you think it changes nothing?

Bro, please check out the short story, "The beautiful suit," by the same author. In a mere three pages, Wells conveys such a deep parable. What initially seems just like a comic piece, is in fact an incredible commentary. Do check it out.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just read it via your request - very symbolic indeed. Even if freedom implies danger, does it not reap its own reward in spite of this? It is better to follow the heart than to follow what is dictated to you from another. And yet, at the end we all fade into death. The only nuance is whether we die satisfied or not.
That's my analysis - thanks again for letting me know of that story!

@@AheadOfTheCurveVideos excellent analysis.....I always think the man basically perished due to his own satisfaction, he couldn't handle it. And isnt that what we all strive for in the end ? Satisfaction. Only he got it in such absolute form that he couldnt possibly contain it.

@@entropysermons1876 I agree! "People don't have ideas, ideas have people". The suit engulfed his being such does any kind of passion. I suppose it's better to die young with the knowledge that it was well lived, than to die old being deprived of what transcends us.

Not surprising that Darwin is mentioned a lot in this book. H.G. Wells studied under the scientist Thomas Huxley, who was a huge supporter of Charles Darwin, to the point that he gained the nickname "Darwin's Bulldog".
