When a society settles for mediocrity or below average outcomes, it bleeds into all aspects of life including art, films, writing, food, clothing, medical care etc...nothing is of high quality because expectations are so low and people are so willing to settle. no conviction, no fighting spirit, and no desire for vigilence...just compliance and accepting everything that falls into your lap. I try to always fight to reserve the best for myself, which means less money goes into buying garbage stuff.

The people who make good money is the management. Time's is the lowest paying retailer. Oh, the other thing he said that the story in the news was somewhat misleading. They mentioned bread (Loves) for $13 on Kauai. Here the bread was going for $10, but they didn't say they sell other brands for about $5. Here I was thinking all bread was selling at a high price.

One excellent example of some price gouging is the Kauai CVS/Longs Drugs store. The prices at their Kukuiuula ( Poipu) location are VASTLY higher from ALL their other locations. I wont deny that there is some greed going on, there is....BUT the current administration ran on the promise of destroying the fossil fuel industy to replace it with "greener" energy.
Fuel and energy costs are up and that trickles down the cost of every single item that is produced and transported.
If it cost more to grow, farm, fertilize, harvest, transport, stock the product on the shelves then it will reflect in the cost. So something like a grain in the field will then change the cost of every item that grain goes into (bread, cereal, baking mixes, etc) and that is just ONE item.
Corporate greed is a thing and it does happen BUT we cannot ignore the Donkey in the room. Corporate greed is a place to be angry and take our attention of the fact that we are under attack in various ways....but hey, at least this administration is doing exactly what they promised to do 👍
And before a person tells me that the president doesnt decide the gas prices, I know this. But their polices do effect it and if they cant change much with the fuel industy then why the mumbo jumbo of promising their voters that they will end it? Leave it alone then if they have no effect on it.

The economy crashed in 2008, hit its nadir in 2010, and continued to climb during the Obama administration, and climbed at the exact same rate into the Trump administration until Covid, when it crashed again. This is the same pattern. It hit its nadir early in the Biden administration, and has been improving since.
Presidents don't have as much to do with this stuff as people think. But what Biden and other Democrats are doing is calling out the fact that businesses have been making record profits during all this, and the very rich have gotten even richer during this time. What that means is that they're not simply passing on costs. They're using the opportunity to raise prices more than necessary, to make more money.
In other words, they're deliberately screwing you. But it would be a rare Republican who would point that out, and if they did, it would probably be to praise it because they don't believe that people have any responsibility to each other, and simply see that behavior as good business.
It's unclear to me how putting people with that attitude in power is going to result in lower prices.

Welcome to our world. Law makers should go shopping on camera so we can see their reaction.

They wouldn't have much of a reaction, they are rich. These prices are pennies to them. They don't have any concept on what it's like to live like normal everyday people.

President's have no control over inflation. Inflation raged right through the 1970's and neither Nixon, Ford or Carter did anything about it. Inflation may be around another 5 years even with Trump as President.

Did he not bother to look at the other items on shelves, because the prices are way up on EVERYTHING, why is he focusing just on bread?!?!

    Ridiculous Price!!
I make my own bread, my organic flour is amazingly cheaper than store bread with a paragraph of listed ingredients 🙄 during covid19 lockdowm, I began making bread for myself & my ohana. 5 ingredients..no preservatives & so ono! Unlike the breads sold in stores.

Price gouging across the board. From shippers to middleman to store to consumer.
THERE should be caps on food items and profit margins.

I'm sure voting Blue has nothing to do with it. It's all some evil price gougers.
By the way, why weren't these evil people doing their price gouging when Donald Trump was president?
That guy had gas down to $2 a gallon.

Time to use a bread machine and make their own bread loaves. The machine will pay for itself in less than a year.

Vote for change for a change, Hawaii. Stop sliding downhill with CA, OR, WA and NY and conserve our old better way of living.
