Even the cost of materials is expensive in Hawaii. Flour, yeast, salt, and other ingredients would cost just the same, they all have to be imported onto the island, not to mention running that bread making machine can cost 46¢+ per KWH,wouldn't be surprised it electricity goes to 50¢ per KWH later in the year. So to make your own bread most likely cost just a much or more.

Been awhile since I've bought bread... but it is just wheat, water, salt and yeast right? What is the weight of the loaf of bread? I do know that corn chips are selling for $12 a pound at most stores. And our government subsidizes corn. Glad folks are actually speaking up. Sadly our choice of a free market system is now controlled by a few conglomerates. Free markets and free competition should correct the pricing. But with huge companies controlling pricing there is no chance for new competition.

Many may not know this, but in the last 4 years 30,000 people have left Hawaii to the Mainland. Home ownership in Hawaii is but a "dream". One excellent example of some price gouging is the Kauai CVS/Longs Drugs store. The prices at their Kukuiuula ( Poipu) location are VASTLY higher from ALL their other locations. Is this ONLY because the Kukuiuula/Poipu location is right in a highly trafficked Tourist area?🤔

I wont deny that there is some greed going on, there is....BUT the current administration ran on the promise of destroying the fossil fuel industy to replace it with "greener" energy.
Fuel and energy costs are up and that trickles down the cost of every single item that is produced and transported.
If it cost more to grow, farm, fertilize, harvest, transport, stock the product on the shelves then it will reflect in the cost. So something like a grain in the field will then change the cost of every item that grain goes into (bread, cereal, baking mixes, etc) and that is just ONE item.
Corporate greed is a thing and it does happen BUT we cannot ignore the Donkey in the room. Corporate greed is a place to be angry and take our attention of the fact that we are under attack in various ways....but hey, at least this administration is doing exactly what they promised to do 👍
And before a person tells me that the president doesnt decide the gas prices, I know this. But their polices do effect it and if they cant change much with the fuel industy then why the mumbo jumbo of promising their voters that they will end it? Leave it alone then if they have no effect on it.

You did pick out the most expensive bread possible. Here in Mexico, low cost loaf is $2.80 and imported US bread is $5.06 I imagine the ages are better in Hawaii but I do not know if that is true.

Yes keep voting Democrat and corporate greed will continue. Republicans aren't for large corporations and definitely don't try to stop everyday workers from increasing their pay through unionizing. This is exactly why Republicans vote for permanent tax cuts for corporations but only give temporary tax cuts to workers! The money that corporations save goes to wireless and not the investors. Republicans know what's best for workers!

This doesn’t have anything to do with inflation. This is just flat out greed. I know the locals of Hawaii are pissed as hell and I would be right along with them if I was over there.

How much more evidence do you need? If all the retailers in that area are charging similar prices and they’re not all owned by a monopoly…it has to be inflation.
