Mentioning for posterity / future playthroughs: when you're getting stunlocked or grabbed, hit A with no directions pressed. Your special will knock down everyone attacking you. Sure, it costs a bit of health, but it's far less than the beating you'll take! Also, when you get thrown you can land without damage by pressing jump as you hit the ground. I always mess up the timing unless I just spam jump during the throw.
Agreed, Kevin. Yeah I have that same mental conflict when I'm playing a game like Final Fight; when I'm stun locked I'm always weighing the health lost from burning the special move versus trying to break out on my own and potentially taking more damage. Heh to your point, I feel like 90% of the time it's better to just use the special but my brain doesn't always get there in time.
Funny enough, SoR 3 broke me out of the special move hesitation gridlock. Since special moves cost no health when they recharge, you're encouraged to use them a lot. Especially with the fairly quick recharge. So that A button gets a lot more use!
Just did a playthrough and I need to correct myself, you HOLD Jump and Up while being thrown to land without taking damage. I always mess that little bit up until I get back into a playthrough...
Adding on to those saying it's "grand upper" - when English words are used in Japanese, the "-er" at the end of words becomes an "-aa" sound. However, I wish yelling "Grandpa!" when fighting would have caught on back in the 90's.
It was always "Grasshoppa" to me. And Blaze's double forward sounded like "He sold cold cuts!"
Ha the "he sold cold cuts" got me.
Imagine you’re in a bar enjoying your drink, then someone bursts in yelling “grandpa” while throwing uppercuts left and right.
Ha I'd probably cut myself off at that point.
For English press 1 for Spanish presse Grandpa
"Grand a paw" sounds like to me. That fits "Grand upper." In a figurative sense it is a paw that is grand.
Ha that's true. Throngs of dead gang members would attest to that (if they could).

Always a fun one to watch and play!
Yep, beat-em-ups like this one when done well never get old!

Ha I like my knee jerk heard reaction but everyone's explanation makes sense.
I just looked it u0, he says Grand Upper. In the 3rd SoR Axel says, Bare Knuckle
Good call. Definitely not as cool as a SHORYUKEN! Not that BARE KNUCKLE is much better.
