    Thanks. While not a bother too much for me for mowing, coming up on my first season snowblowing and can predict a lot of back-ups. Under 15 minutes (finding parts in my spare bin), fashioned up a jumper and done. Now Reverse Bypass installed.

    I saw this trick and did it the other day on my X350 with a fuse for the connection instead of the jumper wire, both work great. About 2 minute fix.

    Works. I just installed this on my John Deere x380 I just picked up. I just used 12 gauge wire I had left with (2) 12 gauge male spades. A quick crimp and heat gun did the trick.

    I have a cub cade but probably all are similar. Haven't looked at mine yet. But several other folks have suggested ways. Seems like other quick fixes involve inding the switch that tells the mower it's in reverse and either moving it so it's not depressed or disconnecting its wires or putting a loop like this.

    Thank you sooo much. I have an X330, it drives me nuts when I have to mow in reverse sometimes, and it cuts out because I forgot to push the stupid button

    Thanks. First JD I've owned with this feature installed and what a pain in the ass it is. I need to back up a hundred times and often have already touched the reverse peddle before I remember to push it. It's also dangerous at times when you're mowing under trees and you need to quickly reverse out yet need to lean forward (into the bush) to reach the reverse override button. Another "safety" feature required by JD's lawyers no doubt. How did we ever survive in the past?

    Works. Owner beware - the rio was there to avoid frivolous lawsuits and/or meet Fed guidelines.

    My friend just tapes the button down. Not as clean a solution, but arguably as effective. I will end up making the jumper. It was nice to see how easy it was to get to that switch. I had not looked yet because I assumed it would be a pain.

      It’s a game changer. I do still find myself reaching for the button from time to time. Love it.

    On the new S180 running a jumper wire will not allow the mower to start,

  • @andrew_gardner
    @andrew_gardner ปีที่แล้ว

    I had done this on my X350, but it kept blowing a fuse that runs the whole mower. I actually took it to JD dealer to have them figure out why it was blowing out the fuse and once I think it burned out the actual dash computer, but they couldn't figure anything out. i had to go back to pushing the button. I did install a foot momentary switch to allow me to keep both hands on the wheel and wired it inline with the dash button, but the "heavy duty" switches kept failing me. Back to trying to figure out a way to get around this BS "safety" feature.

    That’s funny, I tried this and it didn’t work for me. It would still kill the engine when I went in reverse while the blades were engaged.

  • @RPDBY

    Why would they even have this feature?

    • @Mr_Tims
      @Mr_Tims  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear ya! It’s not real world. I guess they don’t trust homeowners. They would never put something like that on an agricultural tractor.

    • @brentbolte6477
      @brentbolte6477 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Came from a homeowner lawsuit, guy backed up over his little son and basically cut his feet off. Of course wasn't his fault even though he didn't look while backing, was mower manufacturers fault because they allowed the blades to stay running while he was backing. Result of the settlement was the new requirement that you must have this RIO switch. Can still back up over something or somebody if you press the switch and still not look so not sure what was gained.

    • @BHShaman
      @BHShaman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because at some point someone backed over a pet or a child and complained the manufacturer should have predicted that rearward sight is limited and if the mower had been off in reverse an injury/death could have been prevented and sued them. Nice they put in a bypass button so owners can "willfully" bypass the shutoff, instead of using the PTO Pull Lever a thousand times and wearing it out. Even better to jumper it, and then the Manu. can claim the owner new exactly what they were doing to bypass it and they (Manu) are no longer liable.

    Dont believe you operated a mower with flip flops. Thats real safety for ya.

      What? Never been to Florida? Near our northern Indiana home the Amish women mow barefoot while using a gas powered push mower. Unless you are wearing 100% steel boots, no shoe is going to save a foot when it goes under a mower deck.

      There is another safety that shuts off the blade and engine if you raise up off the seat. What a pointless comment.
