In this clip, French Montana clarified that he never officially signed Lil Durk despite recognizing his potential early on in his career. Montana explained that while he considered Dirk a brother figure and they were affiliates, there was no official contract binding them. The rapper went as far as saying that he had not made any money from Lil Durk's success, despite investing in him out of love. People can say what they want to about L.A. Reid but when he was at Def jam he breathed new life into it. Def jam ain't been the same since he left. I can't think of one real hot artist that got signed after he left that actually went somewhere career wise. They don't do any artist development at all. And they barely even promote their artists. Durk getting dropped from Def jam so early on was the best thing that coulda happened to his career. Hindsight is always 20/20
