You know what’s crazy, that 10 year reunion that Mr Drew was talking about has already happened. None of these are kids anymore, they’re adults in their 20s, it’s mad how fast life goes.
Seeing these series it's clear to me that a psychologist needs to work within the school system and give these kids tips on how to navigate through life challenges.
Molly and Charlotte obviously have something going on, whether that be a learning problem like dyslexia or a form of adhd. Or they have something going on at home (like she said) but they are doing bugger all and arguing with them. They obviously need solid support. This school is in Harlow, my school is also in Harlow. I’m immensely happy I have teachers and parents who care.
For real though so many of these kids have undiagnosed adhd or other learning disabilities that are either not mentioned or not addressed. When one of them was like " i don't mean to say rude it just came out" that's impulse control s
It's quite clear what's going on. Their parents split up, got new partners and more children. They feel like they don't fit in and struggle to get attention at home. So they use school to get that attention. Molly is treating Mr Drew almost like a pseudo dad. Unfortunately, the school work becomes irrelevant in the pursuit of that attention.
I actually really like Mr. Drew, and I don't think he is unreasonable, selfish, or unfair at all. He has got an amazing combinatiom of empathy and strictness a teacher needs. In my experience teachers like him were some of the most respected. Their classes were the best to be in because they kept the students in good order. But I also work with kids and he is correct that many students will think he is all those negative things. A lot of kids are badly parented and if you can't control your kid, they will behave in this unruly manner at school. Some of those parents are well meaning, but have difficulties. Then you get ones who do not care, or even turn around and blame the school.
As a teacher myself I want nothing more than to work with Mr Drew, what an utterly amazing man. I also didn't realise this was from 2012 so most of these students must be my age now which is a strange feeling
Nioka Gordon don’t like dealing with horrible people...but you interact with people. It’s not that they don’t like dealing with kids it’s that it’s frustrating.
@smiley_fnm yes but they’re teachers not therapists or councillors, they’re not trained to deal with complex family issues and there are hundreds of children, not just this one child that takes up 80% of their time. Coupled with lack of funding it is a completely unfair and unrealistic to expect teachers to deal with these situations especially when the kids are (understandably) defensive. But we’re so quick to make excuses for badly behaved kids and I’m sure these out of school issues are a massive factor but there HAS to be a point where the young person has to start making the right decisions for themselves, no matter how small. They get absolutely no boundaries at home and then people complain when school RIGHTLY sets them so they don’t get a very rude awakening in adult life. Call your boss an idiot or a prick and see how long you have a job for. You can’t just scream or cry every time you’re upset and expect it to work out, life doesn’t work like that. The sooner they understand this the better. Periodt.
"There is no such thing as a lost person". Thank you, Mr. Drew. Exactly my approach as a teacher in the Netherlands on Universities of Applied Sciences.
I think that Mr. Drew does have their best interest at heart, I think that he comes from the same angle that my parents did with me, they did love and support me but at the same time also taught me the sad realty of the world. The way he speak sometimes is to give them a taste of how sadly the real world and work are. Its unforgiving and ruthless and does not care very much for you own issues or problems; if you want things, sadly you have to suck it up and deal with it even when you dont really like the job. Again just my opinion.
Making my way through this series one episode at a time, and I am getting a massive amount of respect for Mr Drew. The amount of crap he has to put up with and try his very best to sort out is staggering.
@@joemama-vi8nt yh he’s good but the way he talks to her there shows that he genuinely thinks he is better than the students as his tone is so infuriating
The thing that irritated me about the Mollie situation was how literally the police were looking for her after she ran away from her mum and having to ask her mum if she’s even allowed home and then Drew threatened her with her mum which triggered such a major reaction, surely that’s a massive warning sign the school should be focusing on helping her with that rather than her behaviour and then she mentioned how she stayed at her aunts house and her aggression levels picked up again
@@hamn_ they care for you to get good GCSE results to get a future, and if you get bad GCSE's then your mental health will get worse. And just go to counselling in school. Or to a psychiatrist, psychologist or psychotherapist . And in school in pshe they're mental health lessons, though in my school there isn't anymore because of the principal. And also you cannot generalise all schools or teachers
Chantelle xoxoxo it’s not about the coat stopping her from learning. It’s about instilling discipline in the kids. If you work somewhere and turn up without full uniform or your uniform is scruffy you could get sent home and if it continues happening you’ll get fired. That’s the point, she’s meant to be in full uniform and one kid cannot be seen to be flouting the rules or other kids will do the same 🤷♀️
I heard once a saying " In a hundred years time, no one will remember how much I had in my bank account, the car I drove or what my house was like. Yet the world may be a better place as I was important in the life of a child" I worked in a senior school with children like Molly, and ot was the hardest but most wonderful job ever. I think Mr Drew is amazing, it's so hard giving students boundaries when they have never had them but it shows too how much he cares. I have many of my ex students now on Facebook, and I feel so privileged to have been able to watch them grow then become parents themselves. Teachers and every other member of staff in a school play such an important yet undervalued role. They are the ones who often hear first a child is being abused, supporting them through the illness or death of a loved ones, and helping them cope with feelings and emotions that are totally new. I will never forget the fear in the eyes of girls who came to ask me if it's normal for their periods to be late or looking after a fifteen year old in early labour and the ambulance was delayed. You truly do get a special place in your heart for these children.
Is it just me or teachers pretend like they don't really enjoy exercising their power over students without proactive encouragement? Seems a little petty
TheReal HoneyHubble because it’s a pass, people should be proud of passing or even getting a grade. People have struggles and everyone should be proud of their results
Completely in accordance with how the deputee head is teaching discipline and the concept he has towards the children and the way they behave... brilliant
I really fell for these two young girls what a messy home life they have how can you ask them to do well in school when their lives out of school are a mess
Also, a C would probably be her aim - a goal to get into college, you often need 5 GCSEs at A*-C as it was then. I remember a lot of people aiming for Cs purely so they could get onto the college courses they wanted. And depending on what paper you're submitted for, sometimes it's the top mark you can get.
yeah well these people are going to shit unis and colleges, I have a predicted g9 in 6 subjects and in physics my teacher states I am the best student in the school in physics, besides I think I might be going to MIT because I have participated in their tournaments and shit. I aint a suck up but like these people in the comments act like gcses 1 year early aiming for 4/5 is good
Mr Drew and Mollie. Kind of a sweet relationship really, kind of felt like a mini movie with conflicts and laughter. The stuffy head teacher and the mouthy student. They don't see eye to eye all the time, but they're very fond of each other
It kind of annoys me I’ve noticed that if a smart kid does something wrong they get in so much trouble compared to people who are struggling in school when they mess up they get treated with a lot more compassion
I used to be like that kind of student in my primary and high school years by disrespecting and making teachers' days difficult. At the time of this comment, I'm in my mid-30s now. I realised teachers are just doing their job to ensure pupils have a brighter future. Misbehaving could put their teaching career to an end. Even thinking about it, I still regret what I did over 20 years ago.
Mr Drew Does Not Get Enough Credit! He Is A Living Legend That Has So Much Patience & Understanding For The Young People He Works With, It's Really Wholesome To See :)
Fr I agree, all teachers who like to prove they're higher up and they don't listen to ur side or anything obviously they're gonna have a negative reaction and become argumentative, I know I would
It amazes me that he seems completely oblivious to the fact that his condescending, snarky tone clearly escalates so many of the interactions he has. I never had a single punishment form in my seven years at secondary school, but I feel certain even I’d have snapped back at him eventually. He’s literally a red rag to a bull.
Not sure I like Drew's attitude sometimes. Take Molly, (look at me when I am speaking, take your hands out of your pockets, don't cross your arms, do up your tie), and that was all in the space of about 40 seconds. That is just controlling and ridiculous behaviour by Drew.
That man was the wrong person for Molly, that poor girl needs help and he just made her life more miserable when she was feeling frustrated. Lectures are not the way to deal with kids like this, not relatable to them. Feel for the girl
If any manager I have had in my jobs were as patient and as understanding as Mr Drew, I would try my hardest to knuckle down and do what I was supposed to do!!!!!!
The Deputy Headteacher... I get what he's trying to do. I expect he probably does care enough for the students, and you can see that in the moments when he jokes with them. But MY GOD does his manner of speaking drive me up the wall. I definitely wouldn't have liked that condescending tone.
For example, Mr Drew talking down to Molly, (look at me when I am speaking, take your hands out of your pockets, don't cross your arms, do up your tie), and that was all in the space of about 40 seconds. That is just controlling and ridiculous behaviour by Drew.
To be honest...you can see at one point Molly is just being combative for the sake of it. Like "now you're abusing us" that is just her arguing for the hell of it. In a way it's not ideal she is getting "rewarded" with a stimulating conversation with Mr. Drew, because some kids enjoy being an ass for reasons they aren't mature enough to see.
I love how even though these kids are sometimes difficult and not nice to the teachers, the teachers still have nice things to say about them and to them. The way they talk about the students potential, to do and to be whoever they want, is really nice. I really appreciate their ability to seperate the behaviour from the person.
Obviously Charlotte and Molly have issues at home that need to be addressed. Also I go to school in Cape Town and if we were to do any of these things we’d be in so much trouble. We can get a detention for coming in late. And not apologizing. It’s that simple. But also I relate so so much to molly. I’m also just an angry person with bad anger issues.
honestly i would love to be in Mr Drews office to work instead of a classroom. hardly any people, nice and quiet and lots of drama to listen in on when students and teachers come in whats not to love
I used to feel sorry for some teachers having to deal with badly behaved students, I now feel sorry for some of them, who knows what issues they are having to deal with in their personal life.

Seeing these series it's clear to me that a psychologist needs to work within the school system and give these kids tips on how to navigate through life challenges.
There was a school that introduced meditation twice a day. Bullying dropped to nothing and exam results improved 30%

How do you work that out? I was exactly like molly in school and I’m perfectly normal? And had a good upbringing? I just didn’t like school?
It's quite clear what's going on. Their parents split up, got new partners and more children. They feel like they don't fit in and struggle to get attention at home. So they use school to get that attention. Molly is treating Mr Drew almost like a pseudo dad. Unfortunately, the school work becomes irrelevant in the pursuit of that attention.

Mr. Drew is an outstanding human with so much patience and passion for his job and the pupils. What a thankless job, that he does so well.

If I told them about the war and my emotions on it. They’ll do something about it

wont deal w teenagers... you signed up for the job lol
Nioka Gordon don’t like dealing with horrible people...but you interact with people. It’s not that they don’t like dealing with kids it’s that it’s frustrating.
They're there to teach them not deal with their personal problems and be their mate
Mr drew and the other teacher discussing films whilst that teacher was yelling at the kid had me dying 😂

As if her coat's gonna jump off of her in lesson and stop her from learning

I actually find it quite sad, these kids are so ecstatic to get a C and people in my year are often upset with Bs...
TheReal HoneyHubble because it’s a pass, people should be proud of passing or even getting a grade. People have struggles and everyone should be proud of their results

Unless you want to go to Oxford or Cambridge they aren't that important you just need to pass
Everyone’s different, people in your school will be happy with a C, just like people in this school will be upset over B.
Completely in accordance with how the deputee head is teaching discipline and the concept he has towards the children and the way they behave... brilliant

Ppl keep saying omg one mark off a c is the highest but ppl don’t understand this is clearly a low achieving school so for this school it’s good
Also, a C would probably be her aim - a goal to get into college, you often need 5 GCSEs at A*-C as it was then.

Omg same! I only realised they weren't the same person in the last 10 minutes T-T

I’m properly going to be like that when I visit the war graves tomorrow I’m just nervous that’s all
He's not even my teacher and I want to have an argument with Mr Drew.
I love mollys blue gloves hahahahah
I love this episode especially like mollie and Mr drew are like father and daughter and Mollie is sooooooo smart it’s ridiculous
The way they comfort Molly is the best ❤😊
Mr Drew is so mediocre and tedious, just the way he speaks and I can understand the other teachers dreaming of giving him a slap.
nah hes a certified donny
Russell Chapman Esq. I wouldn’t stand a day if he was my teacher. He does my head in even listening to him
His tone is just so infuriating
Surprised none of them haven't slapped him already.
I love that dude, I would’ve hated him as a kid tho
Calls him a mug
Struggles to move a chair
Obviously Charlotte and Molly have issues at home that need to be addressed. Also I go to school in Cape Town and if we were to do any of these things we’d be in so much trouble. We can get a detention for coming in late. And not apologizing. It’s that simple. But also I relate so so much to molly. I’m also just an angry person with bad anger issues.
Mr Drew is actually a really good teacher. He cares for his students. I get why the students don’t like him but, he is a great guy alright
I am so so greatful i went to a school where people like this was only like 1% of students. i hope she’s in a better place now
